Sunny Delight

Photo by Vittorio Zunino Celotto / Getty Images

First lady Mrs. O visited Palazzo del Governo in L'Aquila, Italy this morning with other G8 spouses. The medieval city was hit by a powerful earthquake in April 2009. As Mrs. O surveyed the damage, she said, ''I'm very moved. I and my husband have been very struck by what we're seeing and we'll try to do everything possible to support you."

Dressed in a yellow floral Liz Claiborne cardigan and chartreuse pleated skirt, Mrs. O brought a ray of sunshine. Fittingly chosen, Mrs. O wore a beaded brooch from Italian fashion house Moschino at her collar. Update: We've confirmed that Mrs. O's skirt is indeed J.Crew's cotton sateen Gateau skirt in chartreuse.

May 20: To greet a crowd at a meeting of the Corporation for National and Community Service, Mrs. O wore a blue - never seen before! - floral dress by Moschino. The print has some resemblance to this Moschino skirt worn in October 2008. P043009SA-0021Official White House Photo by Samantha Appleton

Behind the Scenes: Congressional Spouse Luncheon

Last week, First Lady Mrs. O hosted a special luncheon at the White House for the spouses of members of Congress. In attendance was Mrs. Childers of Mississippi, wife of Congressman Travis Childers, pictured with Mrs. O above.

For the event Mrs. O wore a long black skirt, metallic shell, Moschino pearl cluster brooch and what appears to be a coordinating jacket -- trimmed with a ruffle of tulle and clusters of similar gold pearls. With her hair swept up, Mrs. O looks every bit the part of chic hostess. We love! Check out more photos from the event here.

Update: We have confirmed Mrs. O's jacket is indeed Moschino! The crepe jacket, trimmed with pearls, is from Moschino's Spring Summer 2009 collection, sold at Ikram in Chicago.

Behind the Scenes

New photos from the White House Flickr stream. We like! The top two photos are from the Os Cinco de Mayo celebration at the White House, where Mrs. O wore Moschino. The bottom photo is from Mrs. O's recent trip to New York, and features a green floral skirt that we've not seen before. 'Spring is Here' (Updated)

Photo by Yuri Gripas / Reuters

That is the sentiment -- put best by our own LeahD -- projected by Mrs. O's dress du jour, a citrus yellow, beaded delight. The President and First Lady are hosting a Cinco de Mayo event at the White House tonight, and if Mrs. O's dress is any indication, the mood is festive! (Does anyone know why the Cinco de Mayo celebrations are happening today rather than tomorrow?)

To see the exquisite hand beading on Mrs. O's dress, click here. To see the volume of the skirt, click here.

Update: The acid green satin dress is from Moschino's Spring Summer 2009 collection.  (Thank you Mr. William for the tip!)
