Sunny Delight

First lady Mrs. O visited Palazzo del Governo in L'Aquila, Italy this morning with other G8 spouses. The medieval city was hit by a powerful earthquake in April 2009. As Mrs. O surveyed the damage, she said, ''I'm very moved. I and my husband have been very struck by what we're seeing and we'll try to do everything possible to support you."
Dressed in a yellow floral Liz Claiborne cardigan and chartreuse pleated skirt, Mrs. O brought a ray of sunshine. Fittingly chosen, Mrs. O wore a beaded brooch from Italian fashion house Moschino at her collar. Update: We've confirmed that Mrs. O's skirt is indeed J.Crew's cotton sateen Gateau skirt in chartreuse.

She looks good in yellow.
I LOVE her in yellow!
Mrs. O has really inspired ME to wear more yellow. (We are both Mocha.)
Bella!
Mrs. O looks great, relaxed and comfortable for looking at the ruins of the earthquake. Continuing the sunny yellow today, she always manages to stand out in the crowd. This is a great ensemble. It looks sleek and uncluttered without a belt! Yippee!
Here's a good close-up of her from shoulder to just below the waist. It's a good close-up of the pin, and it shows that she may be wearing a white ribbed shirt under the greenish/yellow shirt, under the sweater. The sweater pulls all the colors together in delightful harmony.

I love yellow on Mrs.O, she looks gorgeous!...the WaPo had a good article about yesterday's activities, this passage stood out for me
you can read the rest of the article here
Yellow is becoming a signature color for her. She was made to wear purple and yellow tones.
Have we seen that sweater before? It looks familiar...
Love, love, love the hair, makeup and styling today. She looks so bright and cheery amidst all the ruins from the earthquake. How could anyone not look at our First Lady and at least smile? And she sure stands out in that gorgeous yellow and her height even with ballet flats on. The cameras just follow Mrs. O everywhere. There's a slideshow on H. Post that has a closeup of her face, and she looks exquisite---give me those cheekbones please! The detailing of the skirt is truly unique---Jason Wu maybe? The color of the skirt is such a vibrant yellow as it was yesterday with the same type of silkiness and shimmer. Her look today looks chic yet conveys warmth, and she looks very approachable. She definitely communicates through her clothes during times when she is not speaking verbally. Plus the bright colors deflect some of that hot heat. A lot of the women were wearing black outside and I know they were burning up.
@Christina---Mrs. O wore the sweater to Camp David over a grey summer dress about a month or so ago.
What I wouldn't give to have her confidence! Not to mention her grace, gorgeous figure, amazing intellect, and hot husband. ;-)
I love this outfit. Yellow seems to be the theme for this trip, and Mrs. O is workin' it!
The close-up Janelle refers to on Huffingpost gives a good view of Mrs. O's eyebrows, which I think have gradually been reshaped to looking really good. Her face is beautiful (yes, love those cheekbones) and has a lovely expression here.

Hi everyone! This is La Eve! i just registered today but I have been following this blog for a couple months! I love reading all the comments! I love Mrs. O style! We have very similar taste but different size wallets. I have been able to reproduce some of her looks and a lower price! LOL. I bought a clear belt with hold piping from Speigel for $11.99!!! The Rykiel belt is way outta my price range! Yellow has been my color this year. I bought a very Michelle-Y yellow dress from Nordstrom to wear to an event in May. I wowed just like Michelle! Woo Hoo. Here is link to it. item No. 249639

Looking forward to all the Fashion chat.

What coding are you using to get hotlinks in your posts?
@Janelle
Ah, thanks! I think I remember that ensemble.
I have that skirt...its JCREW, I got it on sale for $59.99, its one of my favorites this summer
She always looks amazing!!!! the broch pin definately tops off the entire outfit. LOVE IT!

Just one more comment about this close-up. I have always admired Mrs. O's beautiful hands. As someone with short, broad hands, I'm envious of her long, narrow hands and fingers, and perfectly groomed nails. She also uses them with graceful, gracious gestures.

- if you want to quote something , do the following:
assume you want to quote "I love Michelle"
write the following..
<*blockquote> I love michelle<*/blockquote>......(just remove the stars)
Yellow is a universal color of hope - seems a fitting choice for such a summit on such a world stage.
Michelle is outstanding!!! Viry nice looking in Rome. Mexican First Lady also has a signature style, I thing she is very chic too! : http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/16/margarita-zavala-mexicos_n_187852.html
(I wish our first lady would be as presentable as Mrs O and Mrs C.)
Palgirl, thanks so much! I knew how to do some html but not hotlinks.
I love the way Michelle combines colors in unexpected ways. If I had the yellow skirt my first and only choice of a top would be white, but she manages to add a second shade of yellow that actually looks great. She inspires me to try to step out of my comfort zone with colors.
You are the sunshine in my life. Forever you will always be around!!
Beautiful ensemble. Just went to the JCrew link and it's of course sold out. It was going for $29.99 on sale!
What I adore is the fact that the dress looks like something you would wear to a cocktail party, yet Mrs. O dressed it down by tossing on a simple cardigan. So chic! :)
Wow! A Lovely side view

I like this outfit. For once, I like her brooch, which helps pull this outfit together. YES, no high-waisted belt! I like her hair up too.
Mrs. Obama has been doing well on the fashion front this week.
Mrs. O looks absolutely stunning. There is something other-worldly about her in this photo - the outfit looks timeless and she is just glowingly beautiful!
I definitely love this ensemble. She is a ray of sunshine. I really love the hair. If you look at the video on politico.com, you can see the back of the hairstyle. Its not just simply pinned up, it has a cute design, kinda like pin curls, I can't really explain it. Anyway, it's pretty and I like it : .)
Number 1 Stunna! That's Mrs. O. I was driving into work this morning wondering what I would wear to tour ruins from a devastating earthquake. I couldn't get past the thought of jeans or some ankle slacks. Terribly unimaginative on my part.
She looks really relaxed, yet refined.
Off topic, does anyone know who the young man is in this photo - with Malia? Seemed to be part of the family group in all the Rome photos from yesterday.

@ BeeGee
He is Mrs. O's hairdresser. He is not family.
This photo of Mrs O above and this one which is a wider shot, reminds me of a fashion shoot where the model endeavors to inconspicuously stand out in a crowd.
It was a great idea for the Italian government to switch the location of the G8 meeting to this earthquake ravaged city. Hopefully they will get the help needed to restore its beauty.
I read a lot about how Mrs O is not pretty she is just attractive. And what Iman said that she is no great beauty. I feel like I am viewing an honest to goodness fashion shoot. From the side view shot noted in the other jenna's post above to the closeup image observed in Willow's post.
Cafe Fashionista, I was thinking the same thing, dressy casual chic, Mrs O can really work her closet.
Thanks, palgirl2008
LaEve! your yellow dress is cute.
The skirt is sold out!!! And the outfit is so practical and affordable.
IVA, I agree, "Number 1 Stunna".
BeeGee, I think that is MO hairstylist, if I am not mistaken.
@BeeGee--That's definitely Johnny Wright, the hairstylist walking with Malia. He's always looked quite youthful to me--he looks like a teenager, but he can work Mrs. O's hair! Plus with Malia being so tall, she's right at the same height as Johnny's!
Thanks, all. Quite frankly, he was dressed so poorly I couldn't figure him out.
Thanks, all. Had seen Wright before, but usually looked pretty classy, though casual. His dress on this outing didn't seem to be up to snuff for her party.
Miss O looks amazing...makes you want to smile when you see the outfit...a nice big 'ol does of sunshine!
And Johnny Wright looks young as heck...man!! Oh and regarding Mrs. O's hair, I love this chignon...a little poof on top, so cute!
Sorry about the double post. I thought the first one had not made it through moderation for some reason.
Mrs. Brown looks great in these photos. She's really fixed the too tight problem -
Photos
Yay Ms. Brown! I love that navy skirt with the white and red trim.
Mrs. O looks refreshing. Simply elegant.
I have to comment on Karen Anne's link of Mrs. Brown's photos---she looks really great! Because of the better fit and colors she's wearing, it takes years off of her, makes her look so much slimmer and of course she already has great skin. Kudos to her....very nice.

MO is wearing a casual black dress with leggings and the girls are adorable as usual.
Leggings? Come on now, please. Looks cute on Sasha, not Mama. Mrs. Obama had a great streak going with the lemon yellow silk faille dress, then with the yellow Gap skirt-outfit, but the black dress and leggings makes her look sloppy, sloppy, sloppy, like she's been shopping at a beachside tee shirt shop. BTW, did she hurt her left foot? Can see that she's wearing thong sandal on right foot, but something else on her left.
There is nothing wrong with leggings. I think it makes her look cool, modern, and fresh. She definitely does not look sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. I think laid back or relaxed would be a better description. There is nothing wrong with her foot. That is how those sandals are made. If you look at the close up on huffpost you will see that the sandal is like a half thong sandal and half bootie. Basically, it wraps around the big toe and the inner part of the foot, while leaving the rest open. It is definitely an interesting made shoe.
@Nyon, thanks for the info about the sandal; I see it now. Perhaps it's a generational thing about the leggings--whether one thinks they're "cool, modern, and fresh" or "sloppy, sloppy, sloppy." In my opinion, they're cute on little girls and young women, not cute on middle-aged female tourists in the public eye. We've disagreed before, but I suspect you're my childrens' age, so that comes with the territory.
Leggings that are casual and fresh while sightseeing/unofficial outing---yes. Sloppy......no.
What I'd like to know is who pulls all these beautiful outfits together-- either at home at the White House or on the road? Do they travel with someone who helps? Does she have someone at the White house who is responsible for her wardrobe? It must be alot of work to both plan for and then pull all this together for a trip.
I've been LOVING all the sheath dresses and the beautiful colors and prints this week! The leggings, not so much. I disagree that they look sloppy, just maybe not fitting her position. I guess we had this whole discussion on the last overseas trip about whether she's ever really on her own time, so it's probably not necessary to repeat it; but I think the leggings belong at Camp David with the Westminster Abbey tunic. That's just me.
Overall, a great week. Can't wait to see her in Africa.
I agree with your opinion, MrsG, about the leggings--you defined exactly what I meant to say. Thanks.
She looks fine, enough with the she has to wear this or that b/c she is first lady. Let the woman enjoy her time with her kids, leggings and all. I believe as long as she is not being inappropriate as in distateful, then she can wear what she wants, even clothes that some find unfashionable. There will always be style differences which is okay. She needs a clothes stipend and a salary if she has to be in "first lady attire", even when she steps out casually or with her kids.
Wow, "sloppy" - such a horrible adjective to use when discussing the FLOTUS or what she wears. Not good to see at all. Disappointing actually.
