Must Read Mrs. O

"Michelle Obama, Wooing The First Dresser" [NY Times]

“Unlike very chic first ladies we’ve had, like Jacqueline Onassis, Michelle Obama wears so many different designers,” said Anna Wintour of Vogue. “She wears established designers like Michael Kors and a whole array of young designers. Within that group, she’s very choose-your-own-style. She never looks like the clothes are wearing her.”

J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons agrees. “With previous first ladies, one of the things that happened is that they fell into a uniform and it was always a secondary point of view,” she said. “We’ve sort of gotten used to the suits and really downplaying the femininity aspect. The incredible thing about Michelle Obama is that she’s front and center, and it has done a lot for women in that regard.”

Added Ms. Lyons: “In the beginning, I was surprised with the Lanvin sneakers and the J. Crew skinny pants. But the thing is, we’re used to being surprised now. That’s become the standard. The only thing I have come to expect is amazing color."

Let's Move Tour 2012 - Day Two

Friday was a jam packed day for the First Lady, who continued her "Let's Move!" tour with stops in Texas and Florida. Mrs. O met with children from Nancy Moseley Elementary School and members of Bravo's series "Top Chef" at Kleberg Rylie Recreation Center in Dallas, Texas to promote healthy school lunches. Next it was on to Homestead, Florida, where Mrs. O spoke at a town hall on healthy families at Homestead YMCA Family Center.

On the style front: Mrs. O started her day in cheery brights, pairing a red scoop neck top with a blue pencil skirt and thin white belt. In Florida, Mrs. O changed into a plum wrap dress, gathered and tied at the waist.

Update: Mrs. O wears a Rachel Roy Black Dahlia Ultra Suede Wrap Dress, available here. A statement necklace of colored glass beads and Swarovski crystals by Miriam Haskell completed the look.

Let's Move Tour 2012

The First Lady was in Des Moines, Iowa yesterday to host a "Let's Move!" event for children from Iowa schools. Perhaps a nod to the upcoming holiday, Mrs. O wore a sold-out Sonia by Sonia Rykiel heart intarsia sweater, last seen in December 2011. (For those interested, similar sweaters are available here and here.)

From Iowa, Mrs. O was off to Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas for a "Let's Move!" event to highlight the military's effort to improve the nutritional quality of food they serve. On the style front, Mrs. O opted for an understated grey pantsuit, adorned with a red paper airplane pin.
