Must Read Mrs. O

"Michelle Obama, Wooing The First Dresser" [NY Times]
“Unlike very chic first ladies we’ve had, like Jacqueline Onassis, Michelle Obama wears so many different designers,” said Anna Wintour of Vogue. “She wears established designers like Michael Kors and a whole array of young designers. Within that group, she’s very choose-your-own-style. She never looks like the clothes are wearing her.”
J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons agrees. “With previous first ladies, one of the things that happened is that they fell into a uniform and it was always a secondary point of view,” she said. “We’ve sort of gotten used to the suits and really downplaying the femininity aspect. The incredible thing about Michelle Obama is that she’s front and center, and it has done a lot for women in that regard.”
Added Ms. Lyons: “In the beginning, I was surprised with the Lanvin sneakers and the J. Crew skinny pants. But the thing is, we’re used to being surprised now. That’s become the standard. The only thing I have come to expect is amazing color."

In total agreement. Michele's style sense is very different and i believe only Michele can wear and carry off the clothes, the colour the way she does.
"Unlike very chic first ladies we've had....", what? Yes, I read the rest of the quote. But it really is a very back handed compliment. Maybe Anna Wintour is a little peeved that Mrs. O is so very individualistic, and not so very Vogue.
I read it twice. A very good read that had me peeking behind the scenes. The cast of designers that she has chosen was so wide and varied. And they all really appreciated her.
i love that the First Lady has spread her fashion tastes across the board. she goes from affordable to high end, and sometimes you can't even tell the difference. it's great because it really catches our eyes, and there's also times when we can say wow, i really like what she's wearing and can possibly afford it. so kudos to her and her fashion taste and sense. i've taken lots of cues from her and am just really starting to figure out what works for me and what doesn't.
I miss Ikram. She was at Rodarte's fashion show with Mellody Hobson yesterday.
When I first saw Mrs. Obama appear with shoes that didn't match her dress...I thought I had died and went to Edie's fashion palace...Mrs. O has bravely done what I have cowardly done a few times my self. I can remember as a young girl loving the clothes on the manican but after getting the outfit home...Breaking it up into five or six different out-fits...putting a belt on this and adding a bow to that...Finally I can see some method to my madness through the fashion style of our First Lady....God bless her ...
