InStyle Hearts Mrs. O

InStyle.com has refreshed their Michelle Obama Style Gallery with a new focus on office wear. The gallery celebrates the first lady's signature looks and gives suggestions on how to find similar looks for less. Our favorite pick is a patterned skirt from The Limited, seen here, which takes a page from Mrs. O's famed J.Crew skirt worn last fall. Have a peek!

Mrs. O Wears de la Renta

P081209PS-0673

Official White House photo by Pete Souza

... but it may not be the de la Renta who first comes to mind.

A few weeks ago we posted about this red mystery dress - a crowd pleaser that the first lady has worn at least twice in recent months, but also one for which the designer has proven difficult to identify.

We've learned that the dress is MDLR, a new, young label led by Moises de la Renta, Oscar de la Renta's son. The dress is a one-of-a-kind piece made especially for Mrs. Obama and constructed from Gandini sponge crepe.

We can rest a bit easier knowing who is behind this fabulous frock - and what a fantastic twist in the story of Mrs. O's fashion.

The Influencer: Ikram Goldman

We know that Ikram Goldman, the Chicago-based boutique owner with the creative, discerning eye, is tops on Mrs. O’s list. After all, Ikram has been helping Mrs. O discover her inner chic self for years now. And the ever glamorous Ikram is tops on our favorite people list, too.

Now the current issue of Elle magazine names Mrs. G to its It List. Her moniker in the magazine: The Influencer. Elle rightly acknowledges that Ikram, with her inspired selection of designers and accessories, is helping show all American women how to dress. Let’s see: brooches; statement belts; bold color combinations—our closets couldn’t agree more.

A Feathery Frock

The President and First Lady Mrs. O are back from the Pittsburgh Summit, attending the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Annual Phoenix Awards Dinner in Washington, DC last evening. Mrs. O debuted a new black cocktail dress for the occasion.

Update: As several people suggested in the comments, we've confirmed that the First Lady's dress is in fact a Jason Wu design. Fabulous!

In Geometric Fashion

First Lady Mrs. O is again hosting G20 spouses at the Pittsburgh Summit today. For this morning's group photo, Mrs. O chose a dress by Zero + Maria Cornejo, cinched at the waist with a Sacai belt.

The dress features Maria Cornejo's signature Shapes print in silk charmeuse fabric, in hues of amethyst, charcoal and cream. The print is inspired by the three basic shapes that Maria Cornejo's designs are derived from – the circle, square and triangle.
