Ray of Sunshine

The First Lady hosted the second Kids' "State Dinner" in the East Room of the White House today, in partnership with Epicurious, the Department of Education, and the Department of Agriculture. The event recognized 54 winners of a national recipe challenge to promote healthy lunches. For the event, Mrs. O wore a Michael Kors sunshine metallic silk matelasse sheath dress, last seen in October 2009, here. Alexis Bittar bracelets from the designer's Elements collection completed the look.

Daring to post again because I only have positive things to say. This dress looks great, has good lines, and Michelle looks better wearing it now than she did in 2009. Michael Kors' designs seem almost always to work well for her. Her hair is nice ; )
She is so sweet!!! I love her!!!
I knew I recognized this dress. She keeps beautifully recycling her clothes! It's a feat to be able to easily slip right back into a dress 5 years later and look even more amazing!!!
Rock on great lady, Rock on!!!
P.S: Sharon Nelson, if you're still out there, I miss you and your wonderful insight on all things D.C!!! Come back please!!!
Ditto what Eleroy said re. recycling clothes and looking better than ever. I think Mrs. O looked particularly joyful and luminous at this Kids State Dinner -- all the photos I've seen are fabulous. Such a great signature event for FLOTUS!
All I can say is, "Wow!" I've said it before that our beautiful FLOTUS could wear a burlap sack and make it look chic. I love this dress, especially on Mrs. Obama. It occurred to me that we only have 31/2 years left of the administration. let's hope that our wonderful First Lady continues to charm and inspire all mom us, now and in the further! God bless and protect her and her beautiful family!
So pretty . . . especially the bow. I really like the heels she paired with this outfit. Enjoying her new hairstyle/color a lot as well. I'm sure the children and parents had a wonderful time at the event!
Gorgeous!
The dress has pretty lines and flatters Mrs. Obama's figure, color good on her too. Not so sure about the over-sized bow, a bit distracting as the first thing noticed.
Michelle Obama is the epitome of sartorial splendor! I love how this dress is simple and elegant yet that obi-like waist treatment with the oversized bow that is slightly askew makes it just a litle edgy. The sheen of the fabric and the fit are just wonderful. I also love how the color of the dress and her shoes complement the room decor much of which is citrus. I don't recall seeing her earrings, but I loved that armfull of bangles with the stones/gems.
The dress looks great on her minus the bow as it is a bit too distracting. It was a great choice in style - not to fancy not to casual- for this type of event. The only small issue I have is I would've paired the dress with a different color of shoes.
Love her combo as always! She sure knows how to make "old clothes" still look good to re-wear. Loving the background of fruits....blends with her outfit.
As usual, she looks fabulous. I do look forward to seeing more "firsts". Initially, I did not like the shoes but upon reflection, they are a hit with me.
I wasn't fond of this dress the first time around but I adore it here especially with the contrasting green shoes.
It’s a celebration for winners, so I love the gift-wrapped look with the huge bow. Very appropriate for this occasion with children. She lights up the room with her huge, warm, joyful smile. Showing the kids how proud she is of their participation in promoting healthy lunches, because of it's importance now and for future generations.
A “picture of health” eating right, and the results of being committed to exercising and ‘staying fit’……….This golden glowing fabric, wrapped with a stunning big bow---(big heart), reminds me that she is a gift, the world has been waiting for. The cap sleeves gives the option for day to evening.
Absolutely spot on Fern Gullie!!! Perfect description of the outfit and more importantly, the spectacular woman, wife, mother, daughter who is now America's First Lady!!!
I think she looks fabulous. The green shoes work for me. Like the repeats but really like the "firsts" :-)
Waow. Gorgeous! Love this so much.
Yes Eleroy, thank 'you' I try to put my two cents together, because of the huge impact this change has had on my/our lives forever. I love your comments and know how much you love the First Lady and you keep the blog exciting and interesting. I thank Mrs. T so much, for giving Mrs. O's fans the opportunity to comment here.
I cannot think of a better position than First Lady as a Powerful Symbol to prove that “man’s reach must exceed his grasp.....or what is heaven for?” So important for young people, folks from all walks of life regardless of race or financial status see themselves reflected, which will help improve their confidence and believe in themselves. Hi Audrey.
As usual, a perfect ensemble! LOVE the shoes! I'd like to take a moment to mention her shoes, overall, because we always ooh and ahh over the fabulous dresses, gowns, pants, tops, cardigans, etc., but not all that often on her footwear choices, overall. For me, her choice of the low to mid-heel, closed-toe pump (w/ the kitten heel thrown in now and then) is absolute perfection! Nowadays, all I seem to see are shows w/ glitter and straps all over that are 8 inch spike heels and big cork wedges, and all kinds of other CRAZY stuff that I'd surely break both legs by wearing! She opts for a classic style (often in modern colors) that IS actually wearable. I look at what a lot of celebs are wearing and I always think "How can a middle aged, professional woman like me wear such a ridiculous looking shoe at work"! Then I see the First Lady and think, "Ahh, that's it, that's the shoe I need"! And I have been seeing the style in cheaper price points a lot more often since she's become our First Lady. But, KUDOS to her for showing that, No, you do NOT have to wear a shoe that will cause you to have Major foot surgery, or cause broken limbs, in the next year or two!
