American Grown

The First Lady signed copies of her book "American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America," during a signing event at Politics & Prose in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. For the event, Mrs. O wore a blue and gold pleated skirt paired with an embellished navy floral top.

Update: Reader lisam has spotted Mrs. O's top, the Marygrace Sweater by Tory Burch, available here. The bracelets are from Alexis Bittar, part of the designer's Elements Collection.

Who designed that skirt?? It's beautiful!
The hands....the hands, those beautiful hands.
This video re: the event was really fun--
There was a sweet little girl in line waiting for Mrs Obama to sign her book. She said Mrs Obama was her hero and there was this funny old lady at the end who couldn't get into the event but still came to tell Mrs Obama just how much she loves her bangs -- awwww:

Also loved these close-ups. Captures the details on her top and her hoop earrings:

This skirt is the same as the purple one she wore earlier this year, she must have two of them.
The top is Tory Burch.
Not the most flattering photo of her I've ever seen...love the bracelets...wish I wan't obsessed w/ wearing a watch--there'd be more opportunities for bracelets!
I like the ensemble. I'm just not sure that the skirt is all that flattering on her. The First Lady has certain silhouettes that accent her best figure-features and this skirt just doesn't do it.
FLOTUS rocks! Continue to "wear what you love!"
here's the top

So very pretty, original and unexpected! I can see how the top (the little flowers on it from other pictures) picks up and accents the blue in the skirt. The bracelets are very nice too.
It was InStyle's website that spotted the sweater, not me, so I don't think it's fair for me to claim credit
Love the top. It's beautiful. I have had her book for awhile and enjoy it very much. That is my Sunday morning, patio, coffee reading. Love it
Would love to see the skirt in more detail. My overall impression of this, from a distance, was that she was going all-out First Nations, 8-)!!! The skirt looked like a Maori piu-piu style (although, of course, not the traditional colors or patterns), and the top looked like Plains or NW elk tooth/cowrie-shell "collar"! Amazing what the brain will identify on the fly, 8-) DOES anyone know more about the skirt?
Great bangles! Perfect match for the skirt.
I think we might have solved the mystery of who designed the skirt!
A friend of mine who works in the industry swears it's by Erdem and promises to send me proof.
So I'll let everyone know once she does!
Very similar to this skirt she wore at Easter. I do that too. Buy one in every color when I like something
