A Year of Joining Forces

The First Lady and Dr. Biden marked the one year anniversary of Joining Forces with an event held on the South Lawn of the White House today. And they weren't done there! Next, Mrs. O and Dr. B appeared at an event held at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, announcing a new initiative that will ensure nurses are prepared to help meet the unique health needs of service members, veterans, and their families.

On the style front, Mrs. O started the day with a full-skirted trench coat, later revealing a spring-y, orange tweed jacket in Philadelphia.

Update: Joining Forces anniversary events continued Thursday, as Mrs. O spoke to high school girls from military families at Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida. On the style front, Mrs. O wore an orange full-skirted Liz Claiborne dress, paired with turquoise kitten heels and floral pins at the shoulder.

So this makes the third plum coat Mrs. O has worn in the last few weeks? Great sleeve length and button detail, but I don't like the fullness below the waist, especially in this length. My favorite of the three is the one from the 3-19 walk to church.

Would love to see more of that orange jacket.

I don't like all the McDonald's advertising that has appeared on this site. I don't think Mrs Obama and her Let's Move campaign would like it either!

Emmebelle, that is a good one! Reed Krakoff SS12.

gaylev, I appreciate your comment. So that you have the full background - I work with ad networks such as Google and Glam, but not directly with brands, such as McDonald's. Unfortunately, I can't always control what ads are displayed by Google and Glam. Advertising is important for the blog, as it's the lone source of revenue, and allows me to license and use images.

The advertising you see also depend on your own online behavior I understood. McDonalds never popped up in my screen when I visit mrs O.

From the Google website:
"While Google often shows you ads based on the content of the page you are viewing, we also show some ads based on the types of websites you visit, view, or where you interact with an ad or other Google product supported by Google's advertising services. In doing this, Google doesn't know your name or any other personal information about you. I love the orange dress and the flower pins. They look wonderful on Mr. O. Not too keen on the turquoise heels.

FLOTUS IS HAPPY FOR SPRING, HAPPY FOR LIFE AND IT SHOWS ALL OVER,
WOULD LOVE TO SEE A FULL LENGTH OF THE DRESS, I THINK LOOKS SIMILAR IN STYLE TO MY JNY DRESS FROM SPRING/SUMMER 2011

re:turquoise shoes with orange dress. Mrs O.'s daughter wore an orange top with turquoise jeans for the Easter Egg hunt. I think given the other posssible choices, turquoise is a great complentary colour. White or black or navy or brown shoes would look matronly. Pink or red shoes might have worked. Mrs. O knows how to look current and fashionable.

Love the turquoise heels with the orange dress...not so crazy about that prune colored jacket. I like bright, clear colors on Mrs. O!

That orange dress with the turquoise kitten heels is making me swoon! I love it!
I took my mom to Marshall's on Tuesday and I saw countless trench coats in this length and different colors and sleeve styles. It's quite practical and I think this trend will last for awhile. That's our Michelle....always mixing it up!

Would like a closer view of that pin on the orange dress...anyone have it? Love the turquoise shoes making a color statement with the dress. Above shot of the tangerine jacket not so much-it's just too tight! I like the plum trench and have to assume that chilly weather dictated it and is covering up something very cute underneath!

LOVE, LOVE the orange dress with off-setting shoes!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, L-O-V-E that coat!!!!!!!!!!!
She truly has a style that is different, but matches her personality and culture.
I took a tip from her and wore yellow kitten heels with a black, red and white print dress.

@Thumper, there is a video on Huffington Post in which you can see the pin more clearly and, even better, a prom picture of Mrs. O! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/16/michelle-obama-prom-photo_n_1428032.html?ref=michelle-obama#s866867&title=April_2012 LOL!
