Cherry Blossom

The First Lady planted a cherry blossom tree at the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC today. For the event, Mrs. O wore a full-skirted plum coat paired with trousers. A lovely variation on the typical overcoat!

I think Mrs. O looked really pretty today (hair and make-up) but there is too much fabric in that coat. The color is nice but the lapels make her look flat on top and with all that fabric, too big on the bottom. I think a modified version of this coat would have been better. Also, the color is good but not very "spring" for Cherry Blossom season.

Love the color of the raincoat, and I think it's great that the young girl chose to wear a pink-flowered skirt. That took some planning, I'll bet!

Awesome photo! I just love Mrs. O in these family-children oriented settings doing stuff outdoors. Really nice!

That coat is some kind of sharp! I like the fullness at the bottom half. The egg plant color is a great transitional color and the shape is flattering. I don't feel that each garment should be designed to make us looks "smaller". To me, that sends the message to women that no matter what shape or size that you are you should be ( or appear to be) smaller. At what point are we good enough?
I soooooo appreciate our Michelle's attitude toward health and fitness as well as body image. It's not ONLY what we feed our bodies it's also what we feed our minds!

@Charlene in Detroit I so agree with you. This morning I was looking at a news clip about critics of the actress of the Hunger Games movie saying that she was too fat for the role. I am flat chested and full hipped and there is nothing short of plastic surgery that is going to change that including any clothes that a stylist would suggest. I love my body as it is and take good care of it and that is why I come here to read about Mrs. O and the true lasting beauty that she symbolizes to me. She was utterly stunning last night at the Nick awards.
