First Peek: 2012 Governors' Dinner

The President and First Lady are hosting the 2012 Governors’ Dinner in the State Dining Room of the White House this evening. As in recent years, limited press photos have been published. Fingers crossed for a full length view on the White House Flickr feed!

Beautiful!
I can already tell that her outfit/dress is going to be stunning! In all seriousness, she is the reason why I am dedicated to my weight loss goals:-)
Absolutely gorgeous! Hair, makeup spot on-- especially the eyebrows- love the shape, color and placement. I'm also scouring sites for a full length shot of FLOTUS's gown. The shoulder and bodice detail are just beautiful - confection-like. Who needs the Oscars? We have a White House red carpet!
From what I see, I LOVE!
hubba hubba! The dress looks so ethereal. beoooooooooooooooutiful
Early days still, but I'm putting my money on Jenny Packham. Very reminiscent of the Duchess of Cambridge's gown she made. Oh what a lovely woman I can barely wait for the full length - better yet the state visit in two weeks!!
Oh, I really want to see this dress!!
She looks terrific. Too bad she was seated next to that Mc Donnell guy. But even he cannot ruin her look.
Fab FLOTUS!
This is going to be spectacular!
You can't see the whole outfit in that picture but I even from HERE I can see that it's a gorgeous dress.
WOW...Mrs. O looks amazing.! Beautiful makeup !
She is one of a kind! We are fortunate to have such a wonderful First Lady.
Can not see entire dress but what I can see is gorgeous!

She looks stunning. I love the hair and the color of the dress. I do wish there was more complete photo!
Does anyone know who it's by?
The dress is gorgeous! Sigh!!!! :0)
I wanna see that whole dress. I didn't see anything even close to that at the Oscars last night. Go Michelle.....You Rock!!!!
FLOTUS, FLOTUS, FLOTUS forever my inspiration.
Here is more photos of the dress http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/27/michelle-obama-at-national-governors-association-dinner_n_1304511.html
Hair and make up, Fab. Dress from the what I can see appears to be spot on!
My guess? Naeem Khan. A custom version of this, in nude, with heavy crystal embellishment on the bodice.

The tulle treatment at the top is a giveaway.
Pre-fall 2012.
Why not wait until you see the whole dress before posting ohhhs and ahhhhs. How can you possibly say it looks ethereal or spot on or beautiful when you can't even see it? It takes the joy out of seeing the dress in its entirety.
She seems to like one shouldered gowns starting inauguration day. I would like to see her in something else. Enough of 'the arms.'
Hope we get to see the full-length view, but from these shots, it far exceeds anything I saw on the Oscars last night. I would never have guessed that chiffon and the crystals could work together, but this is lovely.
Don't forget the In Performance at the White House on PBS tonight, everyone!
Good post Deb

O.M.G, MUST SEE THE REST OF THIS DRESS!! I already know Im gonna love it!!
She is sooooooooooo BEAUTIFUL!! Hopefully, Pete Souza will do us a solid and relase a full length pic.
BTW, Mrs. O and Dr. Biden looked really nice today talking about Military spouses to the governors. You can see video at theobamadiary.com

Wow, from what I could garner from all the links , the dress was fabulous! Oh, I hope we get a full length view!!!

More of this dress is visible in a photo here:

For me, it is reminiscent of the dress she wore for the first state dinner for India. It was one of my all time favorites. It was designed by and Indian designer named Naeem Khan. I think he may have done this one, too.
This dress is a knockout! Love the soft rose bow on the shoulder. MrsO has what it takes to rock a formal gown. I too think it could be Naeem Khan.
So beautiful! Once again she has out done herself. The hair and the makeup are gorgeous too. Huffingtonpost has confirmed that it is a Naeem Khan gown. I love his gowns!
It's a fabulous dress, even with the little we have seen. My money's on Naeem Khan. Oh! I just noticed that Georgina said Huff Post confirmed that. So gratifying when I'm right for a change!
I don't understand why the White House doesn't release pictures of this particular event. Wasn't it the Governor's Dinner to which she wore that stunning red Soronen gown that had the corset lacing up the back, and we never got to see the front? So frustrating!
Good eye ladies! The dress is confirmed as Naeem Khan!
I thought it was Naeem Khan. It is just gorgeous. I can not wait to see the rest of the dress. I went on line to get an idea of his collection and immediately thought it was. It is better than many of the Oscar dresses. So fresh and classic. I was watching an old TCM show on the Oscars of the past and it is reminiscent of that elegant style.
She looks divine!
Peace.
Hi OperaFanatic
That red gown with the great corset lacing up the back was worn to their first Alfalfa Dinner. Agree it is frustrating that we never got to see a front view. My money is on seeing a better view of this dress eventually on the White House Flickr sets since we have always gotten a view of MO at the other Governor's Dinners - the 2009 deep purple "Twilight" Sorenson gown (one of my favorites), the 2010 black ruffle gown showing her and Potus dancing and last year with the chartreuse gown. Agree that even with a limited view, this gown is gorgeous.
Jazz
After having seen about 3/4 of the dress on the Huffington Post, I can say that Mrs. O's dress is indeed Oscar night-worthy! If Mrs. O. had been in LA on the red carpet, she could have been voted "best dressed."
I am very curious as to why Mrs. T. would choose a photo that showed us nearly nothing of the dress. I know that photos of it were hard to come by, but there were others out there that showed a great deal more of this lovely gown.
Mrs. T, is there seriously not a full length picture of Mrs. O in this gown?
Tragic!
BEAUTIFUL- everytime I see her in a FAB gown I think that could be my wedding dress!!! great inspiration
Christen....why do you continue to make issue as to how
Much of these photos you can't see?
The first lady proves over and over again why she is the first lady of fashion- she is truly stunning in this jaw dropping gown! My daughter saw this and gasped, "Oh My God, she is so beautiful!"
We have only the second most photogenic first lady in the history of this country- and to follow
Jackie Kennedy shows she absolutely knows what to wear, how to wear it, and how to work it.
This woman has no equal.
This gown is divine, and with the super toned body that Mrs. O has - due to lots of work that is necessary to promote physical well-being - it is an out of the park hit.
Christen, I always try to post photos that 1. show as much of the ensemble as possible and 2. are flattering to the First Lady in angle, expression, etc. The most complete image of the dress (which is linked to in the post) satisfies the first criteria but perhaps not the second (intense, mid-conversation), and that's why I didn't post it. My hope is that another photo will be posted to the White House Flickr feed, as was done in 2010 and 2011, and I will happily add it here. Hope you understand!
Mrs T., you have been doing a wonderful job for years and I love your work. It is because of you that I will not tell Christen explicitly where to go and never come back.
Mrs. O in Khan is a winning formula!
What was the photographer thinking!?!?!? While I appreciate the headshot of the first lady's beautiful face, make up, hair and earring, where the h^&l is her dress? Where is the entire pic!?!?!? If there isn't any, the photographer should be fired. I'll probably do a better job!!!!!
AMEN to that!!!!
Thanks so much for your reply, Mrs. T. It is frustrating to not be able to see the full picture, but I am sure that it frustrates you just as equally.
It was great to be able to see the beautiful full-length blue gown and even a close-up of the fabulous earrings. Thank you!
