Red, White and Blues

The President and First Lady hosted guests in the East Room of the White House today for a concert series saluting blues music in recognition of Black History Month. On the style front: Mrs. O wore a grey short sleeve dress with a corset waist detail. (Thank you to the Washington Post for the title inspiration!)

She looks amazing! Who is the dress by?
Super chic!
Love the look. What a wonderful waistline.
I love this dress and think it is slenderizing! Would love to see the earrings more closely, but even from a distance, we can see that they are bold. They keep the dress from appearing too conservative.
What a very lovely look!
Dresses were made for Mrs Obama.
This is a very nice dress, but I think one of Mrs. O.'s beautiful brooches would have looked fabulous centered on the "corset" detail. It would have added that extra zing!
Thoroughly enjoy your site - I find it inspirational! There is something about Mrs O that makes me feel good - she radiates confidence and "normal ness." And she carries her frame and her style with gorgeous aplomb.
I love this dress on her! It shows just how fabulous her personal style is.
Cute!
I LOVE this corset/obi detail at the waist!
Whoever runs this blog, please focus. You're always about two days late with posting the looks and two weeks late with identifying designers (if at all). Why have a namesake blog about our Lady Michelle Obama if so many other websites beat you to the punch? FLOTUS wore a beautiful dress and coat at the Musuem of African American Literature today. #keepup
Great Look: hair, makeup, dress - everything is spot on !
this looks like Chris Kane for Versus Fall '11

Love when she does a conservative look with a little zing. The blue cut-out adds a nice pop to a dress that would have otherwise been very simple.
Would love to know designer...
Jermaine nailed the designer. I dare say Mrs. Obama put some sort of blue camisole underneath. How clever was that for the Blues Concert at the White House!
Kelsey, nobody is forcing you to visit this site.
Kelsey: There is no schedule, it's not a competition and we're not under deadline here. #chillax
@jermaine, that looks like the dress. So pretty!
@Mrs. T, no images from the In Performance last night? The President stole the show with his singing, but Mrs. O looked great from what I could see.
This dress looks amazing on Mrs Obama. Love the detail at the waistline!
Yikes Kelsey, relax!
@Jermaine - I think you are correct on the designer. Good catch!
I'm curious-how does a dress such as this get from the designer's runway all the way into Michelle's closet. There are SO many designers and SO many dresses available to her, I just wonder what the process is.
@ Babs: that's something I've wondered aloud myself more than a few times. I'm guessing she has a stylist or two or contact designers when they see an item they think the FL will like?? I dunno ...
I read somewhere that Mrs. O uses a woman who worked at Ikram in Chicago and this woman (I can't remember her name) helps to choose certain outfits (making sure nothing is controversial and making sure each outfit fits the criteria of being comfortable and appropriate for the occasion) and this woman helps negotiate loans of certain pieces and discounts w/ certain designers.
Dear Mrs. T,
Thank you for creating this great site/community and for all you do to keep it going. I so respect you and your hard work. Keep up the good work.
Our First Lady looks lovely.
Peace.
I checked out the dress on the designer and I really love what FLOTUS did by adding a blue cami - ingenious. Now that's power dressing!
Thanks Jermaine! what a great dress
The dress is Versus Fall 2011.
