AARP The Magazine

First Lady Mrs. O livens up the September/October 2011 cover of AARP The Magazine wearing a L'Wren Scott burgundy jacquard dress. Lovely!
In the feature story, which profiles Joining Forces, Mrs. Obama is asked if she has a future in politics. And her response?
“The answer is N-O. Period, dot. ... I think one reason Jill [Biden] and I are comfortable and happy is that we’re doing what speaks to us. And what I’ve learned as a woman growing up, getting older, is you’ve got to know who you are. And a politician — it’s never been who I was or wanted to be.”
The full AARP story can be found here.

Maybe some of you "ladies" should just arrange to meet somewhere and fight!--you know, like back in the day when kids would meet after school to duke-it-out about something major, like someone calling her friend a bad name? Fight about Mrs. Obama's Photoshopped hairline, about who should say what and how, about the debt ceiling, about the President's strategies, about how You love Mrs. Obama better than anyone else on this blog, etc. ...And leave the rest of us who simply wish to talk about "What and Whom Mrs. Obama is wearing, alone to do just that.
I think Michelle is starting to suffer from overexposure. Each magazine photoshops her in their own fashion. I have no idea what she actually looks like anymore. The President and his family should not be in our face every day, they lose a lot of mystique this way.. Mrs. Obama should keep doing her good works, but stay a bit under the radar. Otherwise, people will think she is just doing it for the photo ops. I do believe she has good causes that she sincerely cares about, but after awhile too much publicity can backfire.
Someone has to agree. Mrs. O is a very sane woman to deal with this much stress.
@Marcus, I ain't no killa, but don't push me(in my Tupac voice), LOL! Honey, I do not fight. That would mess up my hair and that's a definite NO-NO!!. However, when I feel that something needs to be said, I say it. I also see that you put quotes around the word "ladies". Are you implying that we are not ladies? Because if speaking my mind, taking up for Mrs. and Mr. O or my friends is unlady like in your eyes, then so be it. Believe me, I have been called worse. But, I am a GAW that will speak my mind when I see fit. We all (well, most of us) come here to partake in the greatness that is Mrs. O. It is never my intent to come on this blog and argue or have a heated discussion with others. However, If I see a comment that I feel is out of order, I will say something (actually I see plenty of comments that I don't like, but I don't respond to them all because the blog has taught me that comes with the territory). So, keep coming to the blog and enjoying Mrs. O because I sure am and maybe from now on you should skip my posts because you never know what this "lady" may write ;-)
Peace out!
Desperately seeking Mrs. O, we need some new outfits to look at ASAP.
@MarcusPerry, I do empathize with your viewpoint; @Dellastreet, yours is a very interesting viewpoint also, definitely some food for thought.
Given the nastiness that appears in the commentary about the Obamas on other websites and President Obama's own little joke about the interest in Mrs. Obama's fashions, is it possible that Mrs. Obama has chosen to keep a low profile during this moment of national crisis? Thank you, Mrs. T, for your continued encouragement to us to be respectful. If other webmistresses and webmasters were like you, imagine how different the national mood would be.
@della street:
I can understand your point re Michelle being "in our face" (I disagree, but that's just one opinion vs. another.) But really, I think it's the president's job to be in our face every day. He does the important stuff, I kinda want to see the president frequently.
As for Michelle, she's around a lot because she's the most popular member of the Obama family right now. Just keeping it real. We're going into election season and we're going to see a lot more of her, I'm going to guess. She's not royalty, so I don't think there's any need for her to maintain some kind of "mystique" -- but again, that's just one opinion vs. another.
Have people forgotton Mrs. Obama has two kids out of school. Let's keep some perspective here.
My comment was not meant to be frivolous, Mrs. O should do as she pleases. But publicity, even the most positive kind, gets old. Sort of like eating lobster every day...although I sure would like the chance to be bored of lobster ! Not all of the First Lady's fashions are going to be a home run, she is human. She also gets tired, mabye even cranky. The constant exposure just leaves the door open for negativity, imo.
Mrs. T--
Please, please, another picture. We need something to lift our spirits after the DC nastiness. I've resorted to going back to older pictures on this site. I'm almost back to 2010!! Please help!!
Since the picture hasn't changed in a few days, I haven't been keeping up with the intense conversation.
I think TEA PARTY JANE has visited and disrupted this site before. But if you re-read the TP Jane post with a different mind set it is actually pretty funny and full of contradictions....like most republicans.
I think MO would be proud of how participants of this blog have her back...."haters beware"
@nyon I am not always available to comment but rest assured that when you defend Mrs. O. I am with you!!
@Nyon: My putting "ladies" in quotes was about irony, given the connotative definition of the term, juxtaposed with the seemingly locked-and-cocked-fist tone of some of the commentary posted here. It was nothing personal. In fact, I like a lot of your comments. I can appreciate a little heat. But, well...never mind. I come to this site to be wowed by Mrs. O's style and to learn a little about fashion, as you ladies (sans quotes, "That better?" :-) have taught me a lot. I try to steer clear of the "hate-bait." It's distracting and a waste of time.
P.S. Thanks, babs.
Where is the first lady? I'm starting to worry. Our president celebrated his BDay in Chicago yesterday, and according to the Daily Mail, "Meanwhile, it is understood that the First Lady avoided the preparations for her husband's birthday with a vacation to Spain.

I am seriously starting to worry, she was not with him last yr (another trip to Spain) :(
Does anyone have any info??
OK, I obviously posted too soon. I just continued reading and even though she was in Spain for the celebration in Chicago she is flying back to be at the celebration at the White House today... but still :P I wish she had gone to Chicago as well (just because I am a Chicagoan :p LOL!)
I agree with Pinda. Another photo or even a bargain deal may perhaps pacify the tension here. Mrs. T??
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR PRESIDENT!!!
@ Marcus P., it's all good!! :-)
