Odds and Ends

There are a few odds and ends to report, which I hope will fall into the category of better late than never. Forgive me for being a bit behind!

Many will recall that Mrs. O wore a delightful blue dress while in Santiago, Chile this March. Shown below, the President and First Lady (wearing said dress) are pictured with Chile's President Sebastian Pinera and First Lady Cecilia Morel at the La Moneda government palace. Mrs. O's dress had remained a mystery for many months, but no longer. The dress proves to be another vintage gem -- a circa 1950s Blue Ribbon Lace Dress from New York Vintage. The same vintage dealer provided Mrs. O with a vintage Norman Norell dress worn in December 2010, here, as well as bracelets worn for the State of the Union. Case closed!

Several of you have written to me or commented about Mrs. O's cover of the current Amtrak Arrive magazine. The issue includes a great piece penned by Mrs. O about "Let's Move", as well as a profile on Stone Barns, which the First Lady visited with UN Summit spouses last year, here. The magazine is a great read if you happen to have an upcoming train ride. You can also find it online, here. On a style note, Mrs. O wears a Calvin Klein Collection dress. The photo appears to be from the same photo shoot that yielded the cover of Ladies' Home Journal in September 2010, here.

Finally, another bit of belated but happy news. I want to extend thanks to Veranda magazine, which has written a wonderful piece about this blog and its start for their June 2011 issue (on newsstands now). It's an honor to be recognized by the magazine, and I'm truly grateful. The story is available in print only, otherwise I would share it here. Thanks to all of you for continuing to follow and contribute to this blog, which is truly the only reason such an article exists. And, of course, to Mrs. Obama, for being the ultimate source of inspiration, always.

Mrs. T, congratulations on the ever broadening recognition of this great blog. You've done such a fabulous job covering Mrs. O, every fascinating step of the way.

Not about fashion, but Mrs. O made a private visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center yesterday. This is a woman who lives up to her values:

@trinisamba, LOL! But she did manage to work in her signature color pop with those flats!

@Mrs. T, thanks for the update on that blue dress from the Chile trip. I remember that one was the subject of some debate on this site, but I thought it was very fresh and lovely. I think of '50s fashions as being overly fussy in general, but this dress and that black Norrell show very elegant femininity.

@ Mrs. T - can't wait to read the article and hope it is only the beginning of the recognition you deserve.

MO looks great on the magazine cover - the pose is terrific.

I'm not liking her hair in the group photo but understand on those hot summer days wearing it up is the only way to stay cool.

@ Meta - thanks for hte link

Kudos to you Mrs. T!

You’ve created a site that is smart, funny, lively, respectful, and always an entertaining read.

You’ve also brought together a community of great people. I’m proud to be a part of it.

Many thanks to you, for making this happen and many thanks to Mrs. O for the inspiration.

Peace.

@ Mrs T
Congratulations on the article in VERANDA. You are most deserving. In addition to the wonderful descriptions, the beautiful pictures, and the lively "discussions" you write, produce, and mediate on this site, you often provide better news about the activities of the presidency than the major television networks and other media.
Thank you so much!

Mrs. T,
KUDOS!
You deserve this and more! We're all so excited and enormously proud of you and all the work that you put into this blog. Lord knows it's a challenge at times, but we hope that you continue to find it (and us) worth your while.
Thanks for tracking down that information about that beautiful blue dress. It makes sense that it would be vintage, but it looks so current. Our Michelle looks phenonmenal in it.

I've got a question ... when will the economy improve enough so that we can all afford to buy some of these frocks, bangles, pins, colorful shoes, sweaters, boleros, etc.

OMG, Mrs. T - another gorgeous look for Mrs. O tonight as she and POTUS attended the 2011 Pritzker Architecture Prize event. A gorgeous royal blue (I think) halter style gown, luscious in its elegant simplicity. Once again, beautiful hair and make-up. Look forward to your take!

Mrs. T:
Just bought the Veranda issue. Very nice article about you and your "likes". Again, I just want to say how much I appreciate all that you do in this blog. Re lipstick: try Babycakes by Laura Mercier.

I have been fascinated with Mrs. Obama-her style also and started a search to see if it was being documented. And so I found your blog. Thank you! Great commentary, pictures and fashion updates.
Totally agree with the writer here who said you give her great press, (to paraphrase). Truly your blogging informs just how much good work she does. The respect shown on your blog is especially appreciated. Again...thank you! .
