Hidden Gems

Though the Obamas have returned from their whirlwind trip through Europe, the excitement lives on in a few new photos. Above, the First Lady is shown having tea with Samantha Cameron at the Prime Minister's private residence at Downing Street in London. Below, the President and First Lady board Air Force One in Dublin, Ireland. Thanks to reader Charlene in Detroit for pointing me to these gems.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! xx

I noticed that House of Lavande claimed in a tweet that the belt in the first photo was theirs. Wish we could see a close-up!

The purple dress looks so much nicer without the coat. The neckline is especially beautiful.

@ Meta, go onto daylife.com and type in Michelle Obama. Then click on PHOTOS, that will bring up hundreds of pics. The ones with this dress that shows the belt up close is on grids 37 thru 42. That's where I found these 2 lovely pics.

Thanks Mrs.T for the shout out! When I came across these I thought they were adorable. I really like the snapshot of the residence on #10 Downing Street. It indeed looks like anyone's neatly kept home , and to think that they have small children. Look at the kitchen....it reminds me of my mom's and my best friend's with kitchen towels hanging from the oven door!
Absolutely delightful!

@Charlene in Detroit, I was taken with the setting of the same photo, too. I am very curious since the photos of our FLOTUS greeting visiting first ladies tend to be in a more formal setting e.g. http://mrs-o.org/newdata/2010/3/9/bold-blue.html (Search on "yellow oval room" on this site for more examples.) Does this indicate an immediate connection between the two ladies or just that things are less formal at 10 Downing Street? Maybe Jestina or Posh or another of our British friends can give us some context?

Mrs O looks very patriotic in blue today as she and the President participate in Memorial Day at Arlington

Thanks Mrs. T and CID! I was also surprised at how "normal" the kitchen looks. My towels also hang on the oven door, nowhere else to put them!

Oops, I'm sorry. I found these 2 pics on obamadiary.com/. However, the one with samantha Cameron is also on daylife.com along with some other delightful pics. @ Groovy, the one that shows the kitchen is one of my favorites. It seems that's a common thread for some of us women....that kitchen has to be homey!

Although I didn't like Mrs. Cameron's two dresses during the Obamas' recent state visit to the UK, her recent break to Ibiza has recently been reported here and she looks lovely. I think the key to her success is feeling relaxed!

Just a note: the flat in which the two ladies are sitting is actually above No. 11 Downing Street. This flat is larger than the one above No. 10 (it has 4 bedrooms) and Tony & Cherie Blair also opted to live in the No. 11 flat while Mr. Blair was prime minister.

The British press has been obsessing about the cost of the kitchen and its fittings!
