Haute Halston

Photo by Manuel Balce Ceneta / AP Images
The first lady wore a smoky mauve Halston gown (from Fall 2008!) for the White House Correspondents Dinner last evening. Mrs. O accessorized the look with layered necklaces, stacked bracelets and statement earrings. Gorgeous!
Update: Many have expressed interest in the First Lady's jewelry. Here's the scoop: Mrs. O wore oxidized sterling silver and rose cut diamond earrings, necklaces, bracelets and a ring, all by Irit Design.

Great look for her. She looked gorgeous.
Bellissima!!!!
Beautiful! God bless and protect our precious President and First Lady!!
I love love love Mrs. Obama's look for the evening. Mrs Obama's style has certainly evolved sinced 2007/2008.
I can't wait to find out about the necklace; the necklace is my favorite part of her look. I would love to have one(If it weren't too pricey)
Not my favorite. Like the dress but the hair is too wild - too curly and in her face. Also think the necklaces are too tight - maybe lose the top necklace. Still a big fan of Mrs. O. Love her ability to look great in a variety of styles.
Makeup is on Point!!!!! Looks Fabulous as always!
Both Hair and Makeup are Absolutely Spectacular!!!
Definitely her Best looks to date!
Agreed she looks great. And the back of the dress is fabulous, too!
Once again, we see an example of yet another color Mrs. O can wear! This amazingly rich color played up her skin tones perfectly. I have yet to see her in a color that fails to flatter.
Mrs. O. looking so "prom-classy" again. (That's a compliment, for those ready to check me.) I like the cut of this dress. It highlights the first lady's great upper body physique. Hair: sweet! Accessories: nice. Yet, I'm not so certain how I feel about the color of the dress; its bronze color seems too close (not enough contrast) to Mrs. O.'s beautiful brown skin.
wow, i had no idea that Halston was still around, i thought that label had died with Halston. nice to see its still around. they make nice clothes, especially if you are flat chested... this is really pretty

Unbelievably GORGEOUS. Just...WOW! This color is stunning against her beautiful skin, the jewelry is stunning, her hair is great. As Seth Meyers said, as beautiful as she looked that night (inauguration night) she looks even more beautiful tonight! Even though Seth teased the President that he hasn't fared as well, I think his gray hair looks good on him. They are such a stunning couple. POTUS nailed his speech too. So fun to have a POTUS who is so elegant, smart and funny.
The dress is a very nice color on her and her hairstyle is very flattering. She looks much more professional in the pictured shorter bob, whether curly or straight. The dress is beautiful; however, it shows too much cleavage for a First Lady. A First Lady's dress (in my opinion) should not show so much skin or cleavage. When you're representing over 300 million people on the world's stage, it's best to opt for more conservative attire. She can still be very chic, fashionable and even trendy, just be a tad bit more conservative, not wearing strapless dresses or showing cleavage.
Amazing color and accessories. Beautiful balance sophistication and simplicity.
I really don't like this dress. I don't think it flatters her complexion and her figure. Her hair sometimes looked that there were too much humidity in the room. Her make up was great. POTUS should be jealous, Mrs O flirted with Seth Meyers all night. In conclusion not my favorite look. She look more sensational in the previous 2 WHCD.
She looks so elegant! I actually think the neckline works since she is not large-chested, and find this, like most clothing she wears, to be event-appropriate. She is such an inspiring first lady.
Some say mrs o showed too much cleavage. I did not see too much cleavage, I saw a dress that did not look good on the first lady, although the jewels are fabulous. This is the 21st century, if the most traditional people are move on into the first century(the royal family) so can we.
Wow!!!! Stunning, classy, just absolutely beautiful. I really love this look on her. Everything is so perfectly done. What a gorgeous couple-inside and out. God bless our President, God bless Mrs. Obama, God bless our First family and God bless America. @isonprize Thanks for the close-up views.
I love the color of this dress. I love her hair and makeup. However, the cut/style of the dress is not flattering to her body type - at least to me. I watch the event on C-Span and she is just a little too hippy for this type of dress. I really think that what makes it not work for me is the fabrication, which appears to be silk charmeuse. I think that Mrs O needs to be careful with the fabric of dresses-some work and some don't for her. To me, this one does not work.
Well, she isn't actually showing cleavage. That is just makeup, painted on her chest.
Mrs T. I wonder if you ever covered this look...

stunning...absolutely stunning...
I love everything about the look! FLOTUS looked amazing. ( and POTUS too :) )
A's for every aspect of Mrs. O's look.
Magnolia,
What cleveage?
Not many women know how to look both classy and hot, Michelle gets it just right!
Love everything about her look at the WHCD. Love the soft, sexy, wavy, tossable hair. Love, love, love the jewelry - perfect counterpoint to the sleek, understated, elegant gown. Any info on the jewelry? Seriously need to know who made each and every piece. Just gorgeous, like the First Lady.
Everything was on fire last night in regards to her look!
Gosh, she is gorgeous! Our Michelle just keeps getting better and better. You can easily run out of adjectives to describe her inner and outer beauty. This FLOTUS is making a difference and looking darned good whiile doing it.
Simply stunning!
Fabulous. Just fabulous. Urban contemporary-sleek with an ever-so mild undercurrent of the 70s.
She confirms, yet again, that she is the master of mature metallics (and ageless sexy-whew!)
Love, just love, the shade of that dress. And the hair is perfect. The wisps are somewhat reminiscent of the hairstyle she wore on the night of the blue Peter Soronen dress.
I love her hair, and I love it when she goes ultra-glam, ultra-bejeweled, evening diva. You can tell everybody in the room can't stop gazing at her magnetic beauty and basking in her positive personality.
Gorgeous!
Her hair and makeup are stunning.
I'm not a big fan of this color, but she pulls if off perfectly.
They both look regal.
Super stunning, razzle dazzle look for her!! Love her boldness and her beauty and the confidence she has in herself.
Thanks for the links, isonprize.
I love this color on her, the jewelry and the hair....all look fabulous!
I see no reason why she should not be permitted to wear low cut.
If you've got it flaunt it, I always say:)
Fabulously, effortlessly, elegant!
She REALLY knows how to do evening wear. Jewelry takes center stage in my book! very exotic looking.
I give her a 10!
Mmm...not my favorite look ever for our FLOTUS. The color is not quite right for her. I can't tell if the necklace is all one piece or three, but I think it would look better without the chain choker. Love the earrings, though.
I like her hair in looser curls and curves, but this look if more disheveled than artistically tousled. The problem can't been seen in this photo because of the dark background, but in others it looks like she's been tussling with someone in the back seat of a car and got her hair mussed.
My opinion is divided on the dress. The solid, subtle color is nice. Somehow it appears not to fit correctly.
Does Mrs. O borrow her jewelry? She has so much that is expensive that I am curious. I know many celebrities borrow jewelry for expensive occasions. One necklace of the three that she is wearing costs $4500, I read.
It's worth noting that what looks elegant and understated yet glamorous on one woman might look Mae West-ish on another. It all depends on the woman's figure. Our lovely Mrs. O has small breasts. That's one reason she can wear such a low-cut gown without looking risque. I could not: I have large breasts and an hour-glass figure. It would make me look inappropriate. So a very important part of what's appropriate is the woman's bodily attributes.
Love it, love it...the hair, the dress, the aura. Mrs. Obama is a true winner anytime, any day! Feel so blessed
Wow! Love, love, love the jewelry! Thanks for linking to the jewelry designer Mrs T, will certainly look to get a few pieces. Really love them!
Mrs Obama looks very beautiful and modern and very few could pull off that very modern look in a very traditional role!
She looked stunning. Her hair and makeup is gorgeous.
@ Thumper I agree
That dress looks like a chocolate colour. It looks lovely on the Commander in chic although not something I would wear myself. Two colours I cannot wear and that is chocolate & plum.
Hair, jewellry and makeup totoally on point. The first lady ALWAYS impresses with her evening wear.
It's neat to see her looking so totally, completely sexy. She can pull off any look, and be comfortable doing it. How inspirational.
The other amazing thing is to think that at this time our SEALS were in action, waiting for the weather to clear to go after Bin Laden. The President was able to crack jokes all night and act as if nothing were going on. He is the right man for the job.
Adore the dress and the jewellery is out of the park gorgeous.... but to my mind there is nothing so beautiful as Mrs O with her softly swinging, glossy bob. Maybe she just wanted a contrast with the soft flowing silk of the dress, and I can understand wanting a change, too. I'd love to see that dress with her hair smooth though. Anyway, however I'd like to see it, she looked entirely lovely.
