On a Roll

Photo by Chip Somodevilla / Getty Images
Today marks a highly anticipated White House event: the annual Easter Egg Roll, of course. The first lady wore a fabulous grey and yellow floral frock to oversee the festivities, which included not only the egg roll, but also story time, crepe-flipping and a performance by Willow Smith.
Update: Mrs. O wears a Spring 2011 Safflower Dress by Tracy Reese.

I really enjoy watching the Obamas hosting the Easter Egg Roll every year. It is great to see the whole family, including grandma. It was so great to see the girls read this year. Grandma looked great as usual. this is the first year FLOTUS wore a dress and i think it was very appropriate for the day and to welcome the warm weather. Can't wait to see who is the designer. Love seeing the family!
That is an unusual dress Mrs. Obama is wearing. She looks like a doll.
Great dress!
On a side note, I channeled my inner Mrs. O for Easter. When it comes to dresses, I tend to wear sheaths or maxi dresses. But I went to Jcrew and saw this dress that I HAD to get. http://www.jcrew.com/womens_special_sizes/petite/dresses/PRDOVR~42561/42561.jsp
It has a similar cut as the one Mrs. O is wearing here, which she wears often. Kind of reminds me of a ballerina. Anyway, I wore it to Church and throughout the day's festivities, and received many compliments throughout the day. And gasp, I was one of those women in a sleeveless dress, although summertime A/C always freezes me up, so I wore my cardigan halfway through the service.
Anyway, love the dress Mrs. O is wearing and am really excited to start diversifying my wardrobe with dresses such as this one she's wearing and the one I bought from Jcrew.
I want this dress. I love it. Where can we find it.
I LOVE this look on Mrs. O. There is something about grey and yellow that I always like, and it's a great combo with her skin tone. And the full skirt (which looks like it actually has a petticoat underneath) is very cool. Very Mad Men!
Whew! Mrs. O. looks grrrrrreeat!!!! ... I am looking oh-so forward to another 6 years of her unique and refreshing style. (And I can't wait to see how Sasha and Malia's fashion sensibilities develop.)
Lots of gray and yellow in stores right now....very current.
I absolutely love that dress. I've been trying to get my hands on one since FLOTUS wore the green Barbara Tfank dress with the purple pumps. I can't find one I like anywhere but this dress just oozes springtime and easter bunnies.
i suppose this one of those moments when we fail to understand what Mrs-o is wearing! a tea towel perharps:-)
Gorgeous dress! Mrs. O looks like SPRING. I also love that she didn't do too much jewelry and wore cute flats.
Do we know who designed this stunner?
How feminine and elegant....Love the colors and the flowers so spring! I want one just like it! I really look forward to the Egg Roll with this first family....She gets a thumbs up!
i love this dress. can't wait for an id!
something slightly similar for $118 - donna rico at nordstrom: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/donna-ricco-print-cotton-sheath-dress/3189364?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_ite=donna_ricco_print_cotton_sheath_dress:292120_1&cm_pla=dresses:women:dress&cm_ven=Froogle&mr:referralID=NA&mr:trackingCode=B97CF2D5-D966-E011-9D0B-001517B1882A
@ Operafanatic, yellow and silver/grey/pewter is actually my favorite color combo. It's my living room color scheme! I like to use lilac/lavendar accents in the summmer to punch it up. So seeing it this dress just made me smile. This dress looks like it has some interesting detailing across the bodice. On one site, it looks like it might even be vertical pleating. I like the box pleats on the bottom half of the dress. This dress just screams FLOTUS and she wears it well.
The whole family looked nice and you can tell all of the children enjoyed themselves. I was reading about the egg roll on line. It seemed like a lot of fun at all of the events.
IVA, what color did you wear for Easter? Your dress is sharp, I bet you got tons of compliments on it.
Love, Love, Love the look - the gray, the yellow, the floral print, the full skirt - I would definitely wear this dress. It's just darling!
Love, Love, Love this outfit. It's a very traditional 1950's, 1960's housewife in its cut, but a very modern and bold color and detail. I think this outfit is emblematic of what FLOTUS Michelle is trying to accomplish as First Lady, combining the traditional with the modern, thus a great use of clothes.
Love, love love this dress. I can't wait to hear where it's from. This is probably in one of my top ten favorites.
Might this lovely frock be vintage? It is a perfect choice for this occasion.
I love this dress, it is absolutely beautiful --- Mrs. O looks sensationaly. Winnie Jeans apparently you are clueless about the latest fashion --- a dish towel PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE!
She paired this dress with pea green flats. Love it.
Love the color combo but not loving the style of the dress. But, I must say that I love what the Eg Roll has evolved into under her care. America can truly feel at home at the White House with the Obama's as her keepers. Obama 2012!
I BOUGHT this Tracy Reese dress in February at Niemans! I can't believe it! I wore it again last week! I totally can't believe it. I'm on cloud NINE that Michelle Obama wore "my" dress!!!
Tracey Reese! Wow
I got the white. At the store, they only had the white or the blue. It's like a dark electric blue...in the navy blue family, but with a little more brightness. I can wear a lot of different colors, but I don't like that particular shade of blue with my skintone. So the white one it was! I was able to wear some really funky peep-toe shoes and some fun accessories with it. It was a "wear what I love" moment all day!
Fabulous
Here's the dress in Tracy Reese's Resort 2011 runway slideshow. She has done a number of things featuring this safflower yellow - solids as well as prints. This one has cabbage roses:

Mrs. O's dress is versatile; can be worn for different occasions.

That dress is just PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY on her! It's wonderful to see a confident, powerful woman who has rejected the mannish suit look that is the expectation for that. She enjoys many roles and looks.
I saw a photo of this on the white house website and I thought, who's dress is this? Oh, I know, I'll log on to Mrs. O to find out. Now that I see a full length picture of the dress, I'm even more impressed. She sure knows how to wear an occasion! :D
Love Mrs. O's look as she participated in such a great day of fun in the sun.
I'd also love to see more of that bracelet she's been wearing lately!
Someone had a very good eye for possibilities in that dress. It looks absolutely wonderful on Mrs. Obama. It does not look as nice on the model at the Tracy Reese site.
Looks like Malia is wearing the Radler Blouse from Anthropologie: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=20400982&catId=CLOTHES-BLOUSES&pushId=CLOTHES-BLOUSES&popId=CLOTHES&navAction=top&navCount=162&color=010&isProduct=true&fromCategoryPage=true&isSubcategory=true&subCategoryId=CLOTHES-BLOUSES-SHELLS&templateType=subCategory
