Happy Seder

P041811PS-0525

Official White House Photo by Pete Souza

P.S. As several have noted, the First Lady appears to be wearing the Julian wrap dress in Vintage Pansy from the Spring 2009 Diane von Furstenberg collection. Mrs. O first debuted the dress last year in Mexico, here.

Happy Seder to those who observe this holiday....On the fashion front, Mrs. O looks like she is wearing one of the dresses worn to a trip she made to Mexico...I belive she wore yellow shoes withthe dress then. Grant it I am squinting here....correct me fellow posters if I am wrong

Is that the dress Mrs. O wore in Mexico with the First Lady of Mexico?

It looks like she recycled the Vintage Pansy (Diane von Furstenberg) dress she wore in Mexico. ???

I hope this isn't perceived as picky, but I wish the post had been titled "Happy Passover" rather than "Happy Seder." I realize that is the event, but it isn't the occasion, and there's enough confusion/misinformation about the holiday as it is...

That said, I love the story that started the tradition of this administration hosting a white house seder, and while I can't see much of Mrs. Obama's outfit, the spring print is certainly a good fit.

Oh dear, by "good fit" I mean in terms of spring time and renewal are major themes so conceptually it's a good fit.

I think MRSO is wearing the Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress she wore in Mexico.

really??? i have been incredibly devoted to this site since its inception. Two years ago, the hanukah party photos and comments were sparse and the only reason i "got them" this year is because i was there.

i realize its not a state dinner, or national celebration.....but as a jewish person, who continues to support The President and his wife, shouldn't a little more be said?

marachne is correct the seder is a meal.. happy passover is what should have been said . and i had to really study the photo to find michelle.

fairly disappointed

This dress was in the "outfits" collection she wore to Mexico last year.
Your're so right Marachne, the dress is really "springy"!

This is the DVF dress that FLOTUS wore last year and it's a pretty one. When looking at this pic you can see that Malia looks almost shoulder to shoulder with her mom. It's heart warming to see people gathered together to experience religous traditions of another faith.

i am confused . you post negative comments. why not mine?

I wonder if DVF knew that the Commander in Chic had worn some of HER OWN DESIGNS before she made her comments about the McQueen dress worn at the state dinner earlier this year ?

Anyways...

I fell in love with this dress when she wore it in Mexico. I think she wore mustard coloured ballet pumps with it. Lovely !

One of the troubling aspects of the fashion industry, both high and low, are the notorious conditions under which garment workers operate.

I've wondered about this shameful aspect of the garment industry and whether Mrs.O (and all other high profile women who cultivate fashion) stop to think about what their choices do and don't in changing this situation.

Passover is a time to ponder freedom and bondage and, unfortunately, the fashion industry covers up (no pun intended) very ugly manufacturing realities, in the US and abroad.

I made the commitment a few months ago to transition into a completely sweatshop-free, fair-trade wardrobe, top to bottom, inside and out. At times its been easy, but I also I foresee challenges in the future as I gradually transition and will need to replace certain items.

But I decided to put my money where my mouth is. I am proud to support individuals and small firms who are making a difference and, let me tell you, I sleep a little better at night (and have a better quality, pared down and more manageable wardrobe).

Happy Passover and Happy Easter to those who observe either.

This administration is teaching America so much about what life is really about ... whether we want to learn it or not. As a POTUS & FLOTUS we are so blessed to have this couple (and family). How is it that this administration is the first to start a Passover/Seder tradition? What does that say about past administrations? .... but nobody in the media asks THAT question. Had to say that ... now back to fashion. FLOTUS is teaching us so much about dressing fashionably, stylishly and age-appropriate. She is showing that we women can look beautiful at any age and to wear what you like and what looks good on you. She shows us not to be afraid of "different" looks or trying new styles. She shows us what a passionate, involved, caring woman can do in her community and family. I want to add "all while wearing high-heels and dancing backwards"! FLOTUS: gotta love her.

Peggy--

The WH Seder is a private, closed press affair whose tradition dates back to one held during the campaign with staff. It is not an official event. The only photos we get are ones released by the WH. I am grateful that a photo was released.

having just been on a tour of the White House with my son a few days ago, it just tickles me now to see activities in the rooms we visited. They had just had the passover breakfast in this room and it was still set up. I love having this family in the White House and our Flotus and Dr. Biden were wonderful on The View honoring our military families. No other administration has put such tremendous focus on our military families and made us all truly think about the sacrifices they make every day.

Why is the president not wearing a "kepa"? Or maybe more commonly known as a skullcap. Clearly, every other man at the Seder table is wearing one and they are all not Jewish?

She has true style!
And it's lovely to see that she wears her clothes more than once. I think we've now come to take that for granted with M. Obama, but I think it should be appreciated.
She's a wonderful First Lady, America is so lucky to have her.
We in Ireland are looking forward to President Obama's visit in May, I just wish that Michelle was coming with him.
