I agree with the non fans of the grey top. A rare misstep for Mrs O.

I have no problem with constructive criticism regarding Mrs. O’s outfits. Some of the wry and pithy comments make me laugh. Respectful, knowledgeable, and lively debates are great for this site. However, to say that the First Lady of the United States of America (another Real American) looks like a garden gnome; goes beyond being disrespectful and inappropriate. It’s easy to hide behind an online moniker and be a wise guy. And is also pretty sad. I would never speak of any POTUS or FLOTUS in that manner. To do so is to give the air of legitimacy and respect to those forces who seek to hurt and destroy this great country of ours. I am not down with that!

Please all, remember the Golden Rule.

Peace.

I do not like the top blouse, but that's just me. Aside from this top, my feeling is Mrs. O looked fantabulous for the SA tour.

Anyone who signs on as shelooksmeh has an agenda I am not interested in. realamerican must have really offended the first time to have a post blocked, and Christen gets a chance to defend losers AND scold the rest of us, which is her favorite thing to do on this site.

@Mrs.I and @SLD: very well stated. Thank you! That's what public blogs are for, aren't they? A forum where we can share our opinions?

Bevi, So now those of us who do not care for ONE outfit out of all of those that Mrs. O. wore in So. and Central America are "losers?" You really need to get a grip.

I must say for the pass few days Mrs O wore some very sensational outfit , therefore for one miss I will not complain.

@ Thumper it is not about the outfit, it is about attacking Mrs. O personally, you know, she is not a real american and neither is her husband.

Mrs. O has worn some spectacular fashion this past week and some people just never showed up, they think it is boring to say beautiful things, but she wears something that I myself do not like and I though, here they come, we are only going to hear from certain people who want to put her down not say why they don't like the silly top. What are these folks going to do when she is no longer First Lady, turn on themselves, I hope.

Thank you to those who gave constructive fashion opinions, negative or positive.

No one personally attacked any poster that expressed their dislike in a respectful manner. The only reason BeeGee name was mentioned was because she took it upon herself to try to "educate" us. She knew the article would illicit a response and who knows if she thought it would be a positive one. I don't think anyone was direspectful (maybe sarcastic) in expressing their views on the article.

OSN: I just wanted to say that the article was not even relevant to the situation if you think about it. Technically, Mrs. O and Mr. O were going different places. Mrs. O was going home to the residence, while Mr. O was going to work in the Oval Office.

Back to my original point, If people are purposefully trying to be malicious, I will call them out and I'm sure I won't be the only one. I will never apologise for doing that.

Oopsie, that's suppose to be "elicit'!

Ok...

Fair enough. The "top haters" MAY have a point.

Here is why I liked the top;

It was fashion forward. There are rare times when we get to see Mrs. O really, really fashion forward. Most of the clothing has a modern edge, but she can't really be funky or edgy. EVERY so often, she pulls out a number like this. No, I have never seen that top, but that is the other reason why I like it. IMHO, it sparks something. Love it or hate it, but there is a spark. Like "what is that, ooh!" or "what is that, ugh".

Now, when we look at Mrs. O over the past few years, she is always beautiful when arriving somewhere. Often, however, when she is going home, she is more casual. Could it be....just a guess....that perhaps somewhere in the White House protocols, it is acceptable for First Ladies to leave a country more casually than when entering said country? Or that the last flight can be more casual? Having never read the protocols for American dignitaries, I don't know, but IS IT POSSIBLE that Michelle Obama knows what she is doing?

Lastly, the comment about picking the kids up at the park struck a chord with me. Maybe, MAYBE that is exactly what happened. MAYBE the last day of any trip is scheduled as the girl's day and they go to a park or zoo or someplace and the only way they can pull it off is to go right before they have to leave and then they go straight to Airforce One (shorts gate, anyone). Now, I suppose Mrs. O could have an outfit in a private car just for her and the girls to change in, having only female secret service agents in the car so that they can feel more comfortable. Or, I suppose they could go to the park in fancy duds and just watch from afar.

Whatever the circumstances, I doubt that Mrs. O is just thumbing her nose at tradition, protocol or the dignity of the American people. I can see however, from just the picture, how some of our readers would be aghast at the lack of formality, pomp and circumstance. And in this day and age, maybe Mrs. O shouldn't be casual, unless she is in the garden. Maybe you guys are right. She certainly would be less criticized if she took less fashion risks and played it safe more often. And by playing it safe, I mean sheath dresses and Oscar de la Renta suits, ALL THE TIME!

My aunt was horrified at what she wore to the memorial service for the victims of the Arizona shootings. I, of course, thought the outfit was fine, because the materials and design of the clothes she wore were very formal, and yet appropriate to being in an auditorium. But maybe she should have worn the standard uniform (a suit) just to please everyone. I still don't see what was so wrong with a beautiful silk skirt paired with what I thought was a lovely cashmere sweater and a strand of pearls. I am still mystified as to why that was so terrible.

I couldn't see anything wrong with the top that some are whinging about. But there's plenty wrong with spiteful posts. It's like going out for dinner with people who are rude to the waitress or waiter - you know that person isn't very nice underneath. The top itself is fine. It's very fashionable and I suppose it might not conform to a view of normality for some people, but to me it's just original, different, interesting. I like the first look a little more than the second one anyway. The second look is a "classic" and really quite dull. I like to see Mrs O wearing things that challenge.

@ Michelle too - thanks for your lengthy post and I completely understand where you are coming from.

I fell in love with Mrs Obama when one morning, I was getitng ready for work and the news came on. The showed a quick clip of Mrs Obama at the DNC in 2008, wearing the blue Pinto dress and that cute floral brooch. I remember thinking that the little clip showed a good orator (possibly better than the President !!!) but more importantly I remember thinking how her outfit was a refreshing break from the boxy suits that most political wives wear.

Anyways..........

From that moment on, I have been following her closely, to the point of obssession !!!!!!!!!! Hear me when I tell you that there have been a few outfits that haven't tickled my fancy but I ALWAYS find her choices very interesting and innovative. If she wore the generic suits that all the naysayers are insisting that she wears, then trust me I wouldn't be a regular member of this site.

I don't understand how everybody hates what she is wearing in the first pic. It fits the occasion and is perfect for traveling! The color is magnificent and I love her shoes. Certainly one of my favorite outfits! Now, the second outfit I don't like at all; the trench looks terrible on her (though, I'm never a big fan of trenches on her) and I don't like her hair and makeup. Oh well, I'll forgive her! This is probably the first time I have hated one of her outfits!

Sorry but I don't like the blouse. It looks like a deflated parachute. I doubt that could look good on anyone. Definitely a miss!
