The President and First Lady attended an official dinner at the National Palace in San Salvador, El Salvador last evening. For the occasion, Mrs. O wore a ivory and gold dress, accessorized with chandelier earrings and pearl bracelets.

Update: Mrs. O wore a gold floral jacquard dress by L'Wren Scott. On the jewelry front, Mrs. O wore crystal chandelier earrings and crystal and pearl bracelets, all by Miriam Haskell.

1st time to post. Too cute with the looks!

Checking from afar. What an amazing week of spectacular fashion both simple and complicated. I've enjoyed every minute of it. Now on to the UK and Ireland and any place in between. Mrs. O and her family are bright spots in an otherwise somber world. Bye

Simply elegant and exquisite.

I really like this look and I'm not usually a fan of ivory and gold together. But I really like this look. I hope there's a full length pic of the entire ensemble.

Her blouse touring Corcovado in Rio is by Diane Von F but did anyone notice her shoes when they all arrived in Rio in the yellow skirt and blue top. Pics # 3 and 5 Whoosh!

Wow !! I can only echo everything denisegirl has said. I too have enjoyed every minute of this trip. Kinda sad that it's coming to an end soon. I've enjoyed fawning over pictures of this family in particular Michelle. Every item of her clothes have been absolute winners. In terms of overseas trips her wardrobe (IMO) has been the best, ever. The evening gown that she is wearing here is absolutely gorgeous and the jewellry sets off the look nicely.

She has come a long way since her first overseas trip in 2009 (London, France, Germany, Czech Republic), after being a First Lady for only a few months. She so reminds me of Princess Diana who never purported to be perfect, never tried to be anything other than herself, made mistakes, dusted herself off and plodded on. But I clearly remember that everytime defeat and obstacles came her way, she looked it straight in the eye and tackled it head on, coming out of it more confident and stronger than ever. THIS IS MICHELLE. No other first family has been scrutinised like this one (not in my lifetime) but she shoulders on and it honestly looks as if the scrutiny is a blessing because I truly believe that it has made her a stronger and much more confident woman. She's incredibly special.

Oye! I was waiting for these pics to surface. Of all the things I admire about Mrs O, I am always in absolute awe of how confident a woman she is. Her inner confidence is as sexy and flattering as this dress is. I LOVE this jewel tone on her, and that smokey eye creates a bit of mystery... quite regal - almost like an Eastern Princess.

Ditto denisegirl and jestina. This trip has been wonderful, and each day Mrs.O just gets better and better. This evening dress is lovely and elegant and Michelle looks amazing. I, too, will be sorry to see this South American jaunt come to an end.

Our First Lady dresses herself in such classic simplicity that her soul always seem to shine through. May we all be so impressed to let our unique selves shine through. Fashion does not have to be burdensome and style should not stress us out.

Everything she wore on this trip was over and beyond great. She looked stunning at every turn. I love the girls' clothes as well. This is by far her best trip. Maybe she does have a new design/clothes person. If she does they are on it! Can not wait for England and Ireland.

She looked absolutely wonderful at every turn.

Like many others, I'm running out of adjectives, but how about "sublime"? Agreed with Jestina that this is Mrs. O's best overseas trip for fashion. She looks so much more comfortable with herself than she did when touring India and the Muslim countries last year. Can't wait until the UK trip!

Wow, what a beautiful woman in a beautiful dress. Mrs. O is no movie star, but she has, instead of artificially enhanced features, the natural grace and beauty of a real woman that has made her an icon for millions of women.

The close up with Mrs. O crinkling her nose is absolutely precious.

I love the way in which many of the South American ladies dress. So, I was anxious to see the pictures from this trip. And as I expected, they are beautiful. I have so enjoyed seeing the photos of Mrs. O and of the other lovely First Ladies. Malia and Sasha look so adorable and it goes without saying…The President looks wonderful.

Another lovely and magical journey.

Mrs. O - you make us very proud of you.

Peace.

Hi ladies,
To makj a eyelash-edged scarf like Mrs. O's at no cost, take your out-of-date pashmina, cut off
those strings at the fabric edge and then pull strings until you have a frayed edge as shown above.
Works like magic!

I can't disagree with any of the compliments being heaped on Michelle Obama. I admire her immensely. So I almost hate to nit-pick, but it's not the first time I've noticed. Neither she nor her husband hold a wine glass correctly. Why is that? The circles they run in aren't exactly low-rent.

I am so inspired by the clothes & accessories, hair , makeup, etc., on this trip! I have soooo stepped up my game since Mrs. O came on the scene. Thank you to Mrs. T. for all the work on this site ... this is my favorite website. As for stepping up my game, I have gotten a chic, short haircut (never had the nerve), started mixing my clothes & colors in new ways, and gotten into wearing makeup more attractively (and not by habit or rote). I have received more compliments in a short time than I think I have received in my lifetime! My husband, co-workers, friends, even strangers in the elevator have all taken notice at some time or another! And I owe it all to Mrs. O & Mrs. T. This ivory/gold combination is a true winner. I can't wait for a special occasion this spring/summer! I am soooo ready!

@philly - I'm not a wine expert, but I'm thinking ... (1) maybe she is intentionally trying to warm the wine, (2) perhaps holding it by the bowl covers the fact that you're NOT really drinking it (or very much of it). It would stand to reason that POTUS & FLOTUS are probably not really drinking alcohol beyond 1/2 a glass or less.

I am a wine snob whose household at times has a collection in excess of a thousand bottles. I don't really care how someone holds a glass so long as they enjoy it and don't spill it.

I feel very privileged to be witnessing this, you don't even have an idea what it means to have someone that looks like you have so much confidence and such beautiful aura in this position and at this time...what great honor.

@ Philly.........while you are correct regarding the way a wine glass should be held, something that I have known for a long time, I find that holding the stem is not the more comfortable option.
I only do it depending on where I am, so that other people wouldn't think that I am ignorant.
But you know what, when you are the POTUS or the FLOTUS nobody really cares.
@ Eleroy...I am so amazed at how you guys can find things/pictures. It's as if you were waiting for someone to make the comment. Did you "google" - "people holding wine glasses incorrectly"? ;-)
@ All............I have totally enjoyed this trip's fashion. I live in the Caribbean where there is significant Latin influence and colour plays such an important part in our daily lives so while MO's combinations are surprising to so many it is very normal to us but still exciting.

Philly, I blame Queen Elizabeth II. The flotus must be spending too much time with her. As you can see from this White House dinner photo (scroll down photo on left), apparently the Queen of England must run in the same circles as Mrs. Obama.

Having spent no little time around wine "experts", I was exposed to more darn nonsense than is imaginable.

I hold my wine glass lightly at the base of the bowl with my little finger drifting down to the stem to steady it. I never thought about this. It just happened. The glass should not be more than 1/2 full (that is the biggest error) - even less if it is a huge glass, which is almost impossible to drink from gracefully, and is usually a sign of pretentiousness.

Wine "experts" are sort of like spelling and grammar nannies. We all have to endure them, but they're not much fun.

Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2:19 PM | Unregistered CommenterBeeGee

I sent a message showing Queen Elizabeth holding her wine glass in the same way Mrs. Obama did. Is there a reason it is not posted?

Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:21 PM | Unregistered CommenterClaire

Oh my GOOD god. More nonsense. You can hold a wine glass any damn way you like at a dinner table. You listen to the speech, you stand up and pick up the glass to make a toast, put it down again and then resume your seat. If you hang out with people who truly worry about this stuff, it's time to make friends who drink white wine before it gets warm. And yes I do know what I'm talking about and I know wine experts who think that these rules are the worst kind of territorial snobbery.

Now then. BEAUTIFUL dress. It's so Marilyn Monroe and so chic at the same time. Gorgeous and pretty pretty pretty. I am very surprised it's by L'Wren Scott as I haven't liked much else by her that the First Lady has worn. But this is a delight..
