Mrs. O in Moschino

Image by Charles Dharapak / AP Images

The President and First Lady attended the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. this morning. For the event, Mrs. O wore a matte lurex coat and matching cap-sleeve dress from the Moschino Pre-Spring 2010 collection. We saw a glimpse of the same coat in January 2010, here.

The choice is timely, as just this morning, Robin Givhan wrote of the first lady's view of fashion as a global business, adding: "One label regularly in rotation is Moschino, an Italian brand. She's worn it on a host of public occasions."

I think she had the same dress on in the other photo too--very nice!

As much as I admire clothing and design, whenever I see the President and First Lady together (or apart), the feelings of love and kindness are the first that come to my mind. I think it is great when we can present ourselves with good style and good spirit. That is true balance in life.

Very nice! Sigh! They are such a handsome, charismatic, personable, loving, and intelligent couple!

Mrs. O looks great! There was a big fuss about the O's attending this prayer breakfast because it's (allegedly) funded by a radical right-wing organization called the Council on Family or something like that.

Mrs. O looks nice and conservative here. Yes, I can't quite put my finger on it but her clothes are becoming more somber. I even sense a change in her demeanor, a quietness. Perhaps she has sensed the depth of her position as first lady. Not that she hadn't before but I hope you get what I mean, like the birth of your first child or your husband goes off to war. It is life changing, priorities are reshuffled and values get reevaluated. She has realized how she can effect the lives of millions in a positive way and she is humbled. To me her clothes lately are reflecting that great leap. What a lady!

@ Strong ForU,

Isn't it sad? The man is the President of the United States of America. If this annual prayer breakfast is funded by a radical group, and former Presidents have attended also, was there a big fuss then? If President Obama decided not to attend, he would still get "flack".

I am happy President Obama is being the "peoples'" President!

He is the president of all people, even right, left, center radical groups.

Strong Foru--Last year there was a big fuss because missionaries from the group you mentioned were in Uganda stirring up hatred towards gays and some kind of recognition of them was being given at the breakfast (forgot a lot of details). I've quit reading progressive blogs so I'm not aware of controversy this year, but it would not be a surprise since a prominent leader of gay rights there was recently killed.. Puts President Obama in a difficult position.

The events just before this picture were cute. The President moves through people pretty fast in greeting them but Michelle likes to chat. (Last year he had to come back to retrieve her when she lingered with Helen Thomas.) When he returned behind his chair, he motioned for her to come back and then did a jogging motion with his arms. She was on a fast trot when she arrived. They both look amused over it.

Mrs. T--

I live on an island in the Mississippi River (population aprox. 5,000). A tiny branch library of the county historical society is located here in a small all-purpose building (police, fire, town clerk, voting). I visited this week, and there, on very prominent display, was your book. Caught my eye because it looked so familiar.

Mrs. O, as always looks lovely and they are such a beautiful couple. However, I must say, Mrs. T, I'm so thankful you included the link to the prayer breakfast. What a blessing to hear our President's speech on prayer and his beliefs at the prayer breakfast. This is truly a man of much faith and humility. I thank God for the Obama family and for placing them in this position, "for such a time as this". They are such a blessing to our nation and the world. God bless our First Family and God bless the United States of America.

Very lovely classic suit. I love that colour on her. She seems to shimmer. What a guy! How many men hold chairs for their wives, much less the President? He spoke so lovingly of her today and what strength she brings to his life. A lovely tribute to her, just as much as this site is to her tastes.

Not my favorite, but still, she looks lovely. And yes, the President's tribute today was wonderful.

I've always felt that it's the measure of one's character when you can stand in a room filled mostly with strangers and speak eloquently of your faith, love of wife and family, and your service to your community and country without putting down or denigrating others for not meeting some artificial current standard of what it means to be faithful (or in some quarters, Christian). The manner in which the President spoke this morning at this Prayer Breakfast demonstrates to me once more the inner strength of this man. his humility, and his keen understanding that even though he's the POTUS, he doesn't have all the answers and willingly seeks guidance in daily prayer. Listening to him speak reminded me of the Scriptures, particularly Matthew 5:3-11. It was very powerful, and reinforced once more why I voted for him and why he's the right person to lead this country at this time. Now as for the First Lady, she was well put-together, conservative without being dowdy. To paraphrase Kate Betts in her book, the First Lady is the epitome of style and substance all rolled into one. When she and the President are in the room together, they generate a vibe that's palpable, reason why most in the audience practically break their necks trying to get a glance of them. Barbie and Ken have nothing on these two!

They sure do have fun with each other, as we can see. He's such a gentleman that adores his beautiful wife. It's refreshing to see such chivalry nowadays, so much so that it almost catches you off guard when you see or experience it. As for the suit, I like this Moschino long coat and dress on our Michelle. I saw a pic on Gettyimages that shows the superb detailing that Moschino is so famous for. She looks good!

Is he pulling the chair out for his wife ? Mr President is such a gentleman, every time I see them together it truly warms my heart.

Great photo showing the President's gentlemanly gesture of pulling out the First Lady's chair.

Her hair and makeup look marvelous- I'm not feeling her outfit but it probably looks better in person.

Michelle is one lucky woman. The way he is with her just baffles me. i love that, with all the pressures of the white house etc, there is still (evidently) a lot of love between them.

The President and Mrs. Obama are indeed a beautiful couple. The threads of love that connect them are evident in their interactions with each other. May God continue to bless and keep them.

Please keep up the great work Mrs. T. May God continue to bless you and all of the great contributors to this site.

Peace.

Mrs Obama looks lovely in this outfit. I like it very much, even though I don't know what matte lurex is!

Very nice suit! I want it! They are fashion coordinated as they often are! Sometimes even the whole family! Planned? Accident? Sympatico? Love how her accessories add but do not overwhelm. The outfit has enough detail.

A very lovely suit. And as always, they are SO cute together.

Her hair and 'suit' look lovely, love the tweed-looking material! And why are Christian organizations usually stated as "a RADICAL right-wing organization" Strong-Foru. I am very happy that our President didn't do anything "radical" like not attending this prayer....we need more of it in this country!

Amen mszonian254.

In terms of Mrs. O's outfit - there is nothing the assembled company could find fault with. And that, perhaps, is thankfully mission accomplished.

Found out the designer of the skirt MRSO wore home from Hawaii is Parkinson. Yet another new designer. I wonder if we will see her wear him again.

njmrso -- love you for spotting this! i've just written up a post, with due credit given to you of course. so curious to know -- how did you find this out?

Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 3:57 PM | Registered CommenterMrs. T

Yes, some of the things these people say or do are anything but Christian. But I'm glad that the President shows up and continues to show at these events. He is a good man. And the way he treats his wife shows much about his character.

Love the outfit on the First Lady.
