Ladies Who Lunch

The first week of the new year has been quiet on the Mrs. O front, but that should change Monday. French President Nicolas Sarkozy and First Lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy will travel to Washington, D.C. for meetings at the White House. While the presidents meet to discuss the global economy, the first ladies will have lunch. The key question: what fashion will be on the menu?

It's a private luncheon so at best we'll only get a picture of the two of them sitting down as happens all the time when Mrs. O meets w/the wife of a foreign dignatary. It'll probably show up on the Whitehouse website that day or the day after. So I wouldn't get too excited about there being a "fashion" showdown between the two. I'm sure Carla will be out somewhere on her own that day so that will be it-no pics of them walking around together or attending an event together. Those who want to follow her fashion might get pics of her w/her husband or on her own somewhere. It's a PRIVATE LUNCH w/Michelle tho. No media
sorry

I'm anxiously waiting to see what they will wear! I'm sure I'll love both outfits!

In this picture I think they are both wearing dresses that look much too matronly ~ more Mamie Eisenhower than Jackie Kennedy. They can both do much better than this...

In light of the terrible tragedy in Arizona, I expect that the mood of the visit will be somber. If
there are pictures, I predict that the ladies will wear grey or other somber tones. Flags are
half-mast in honor of the dead in the Capitol. Designer clothes just don't seem important
at this time. Sympathy to all whose family members are impacted.

The dress of CBS is too big for her and it looks like a "robe-manteau" as we say in France (it's a dress-coat, with a thick material, mainly worn by old ladies). It looks like a kind of clothe made to hide the shapes... It is badly cut and the length is bizarre: just at the level of the knees, je dirais que sa tenue, ça ne ressemble strictement à rien, en fait. Wait and see the next outfit, I'm sure it will be better.

About Michelle, look and see the delicate flowing ribbon, flat and thin, what an elegance ! And a very good length of the coat and of the dress.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole citizens of Arizona as they are faced with this tragedy. I just saw a picture of the first family in the front page of msnbc website.

I agree with Char - the mood does not warrant a fashion show (unfortunately).

And, they'll probably both be in kitten heels to prevent President Sarkozy from appearing to be too short.

I do hope that both First Ladies will be a little less conservative than this picture from their last meeting.

I hope you will include the beautiful photo of the Obamas observing a moment of silence for the Arizona victims. Mrs. Obama looked so beautiful and appropriate. They make me so proud.

The last time the Sarkozy's came to town, they had a private evening dinner with the Obama's. No pictures of Carla and Michelle, but one of the two presidents was published taken after the dinner. Things are not going so swimmingly for him in France. A very short time ago I saw that he had just come up in their polls from 29% approval to 32%. Though beautiful and talented, her type of background makes for easy fodder in tabloids that don't need need any evidence to publish often concocted stories that are readily eaten up by too many people. And they've been pretty active. May contribute to this reclusiveness--may not. .
