The Final Word

In an interview with Robin Roberts for Good Morning America on Friday morning, the First Lady responded to the state dress controversy:
"Women, wear what you love. That's all I can say. That's my motto. It's nice to have on a nice suit, but it's a lot nicer to change a generation in terms of their health. It's a lot...better use of my time to focus on rallying this country around our military families. I mean, there's so much that I hope to do in this role that makes a difference in people's lives."

I have moved on.
Me too. But with opinions free-flowing, I felt it was only right to include Mrs. Obama's perspective.
My Lord, give her a break! she will have her ups and downs for her tenure at the white house.
Enough said!
Good for her. I can't help thinking how poorly this whole storm in a teacup reflects on the American media. I've never seen anything like it outside of the US.
And what a moving, brilliant grasp of what really matters in this life and what she would like her legacy to be. I am paying attention to what I eat, I am taking spinning classes 3 times a week at the local 'Y'. I've dropped 10 pounds since October and hope to loose another 20 before my 60th birthday in a few months. There is a lot that is beyond my control but this baby boomer does not intend to suffer ill health at her own hands.
Now on to the next inspiring or whatever outfit. I need a belt to complain about!
Mrs. Obama's response to the dress confirms what I have suspected all along....her main focus is NOT on what she wears. She is busy with her top priority - health and military families.
@ladywatcher keep up your healthy lifestyle!
Amen! I (partially) quoted this earlier in the week in response to one of the columns on this blog. I love First Lady Obama. She is so classy, so unique and a bit of a rebel! I love it! God bless America and the First Family.
@nona: indeed. It's weird to read so many comments on "a dress or not a dress". I'm not american and I do not live there either . I appreciate michelle as a woman not as a clothes' hanger nor a showcase. And after admiring her and her husband I like her style, though she's much more than style..I guess people should stop looking just at their own navels, get to travel abroad and see the real world outside the US.
If people paid as much attention to Mrs. O's two main issues (Military families and healthy eating), imagine the impact there could be. The truth of the matter is that this will not be the last time Mrs. O wears something that people will not like. So I say move on. Mrs. O will continue to wear what SHE wants to wear and I applaud her for it whether I like the ensemble or not.
@MissJazz actually the majority of people loved the dress, oscar was the only person who wanted to spoil the water. Popular commentary was favorable towards the dress and Sarah Burton the designer. It just takes one person to poison the water, until oscar commented everyone just thought what a wonderful dress.
I am so thankful that she has given this perspective...no matter what, the bottom line is the legacy she leaves behind. I am so proud of our First Lady for keeping "the main thing, the main thing". This just solidifies my belief that she is one of the smartest, strongest, most compassionate, focused, loving first ladies ever. Thank you Mrs. Michelle Obama for serving our nation in such a profound way. God bless our First Family and God bless the United States of America.
She's put it all in perspective with a lot more grace than those *ahem* people who have criticised her for her choice of gown. I still can't believe all the fuss that was made, they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
Well, the First Lady has spoken. We should pay attention to her accomplishments and not her fashion choices. I suppose there goes the raison d'etre for this fashion blog. Oh well...
@SLD Not in the least, when things are put in perspective the understanding and beauty are clearer. Now we can enjoy her fashion even more and when she wears something that you or I or anyone one else for that matter, likes or dislikes, we can respect each others opinions and points of view and realize that it is not the end of the world when we disagree. My husband loves green tea ice cream, tastes nasty to me but I love chocolate. We go out to the boardwalk and buy what we like and enjoy each others company.
I can't wait for the next made in America frock she will wear that I don't like. Long live the Mrs. O blog. Long live Mrs. T.
If someone could find out if the dress was made from Chinese silk I would be endlessly grateful.
Excellent point, Posh Tater!
@juliede, thanks for your lovely and thoughtful comment.
@posh tater, I think you should pop over to the house of mcqueen to do a bit of investigative reporting!
