Weekend Retreat

The Os are off to Bar Harbour, Maine for the weekend. First Lady Mrs. O headed for Marine One with her family earlier today, wearing a ruffled gray tank, cropped black pants and black sandals. A blue tote completed the travel ensemble. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!
P.S. I'm curious about Mrs. O's tote, as she was carrying a lime green version in the same style earlier this week. Does anyone recognize it? Oh, Chrystelle is on it! They appear to be Lambertson Truex canvas totes, as seen here.

Update #1: After a hike through Cadillac Mountain yesterday, the Os continued their exploration of Bar Harbor, Maine. Today the first family visited a Coast Guard station and tower nearby, where Mrs. O debuted another vacation ensemble, pairing a hot pink tank with cropped white pants (which matched her eldest daughter no less!).

Update #2: And they're back! Mrs. O arrived home at the White House yesterday wearing a printed Tracy Reese sundress, comprised of various gray tone circles.

It looks like a nice family affair! Hope they ENJOY! Thank you President and Mrs. Obama for all your hard work! You deserve to "get away"!!!
The girls are just getting taller and taller not to mention beautiful. I love the fact that when Mrs.O loves something, she buys at least two versions of it. Although i must say i much prefer the lime version of this tote. Her top is fly!
Enjoy your weekend getaway First Family!!
Mrs.T(B) her tote is Lambertson Truex.
LOVE THE THE OBAMA FAMILY MRS O LOOKED GREAT AND HER GIRLS ARE LOOKING LIKE THERE MOM AND DAD EVERYDAY WOW MALIA IS TALL THEY ALL HAVE THERE HAIR UP IN A BUN JUST LIKE THERE MOM. LOVE THERE OUTFIT.
It's a well-deserved break. Hope they have a great time!
Loving the grey ruffles...
I do like the ruffled blouse. I know that this is a blog page dedicated to Mrs. Obama, but does anyone feel like I do, that the President could use some help in the fashion category. How can he be surrounded by all these fashionable women, and not present some sense of peacock or dandyism? It is a shame to be so tall, lean and elegant and not take advantage of it. Particularly, when he can afford to dress much more stylish and polished when he is doing the casual thing. However, even during the day, his suits are sacky and just not a good fit. It would be great if he styled some double-vents, pocket squares, a nice spread-collar on his shorts, more stylish shoes. And......before anyone gets all upset, I am Barack Obama's biggest supporter.....by vote and donations. I am not hating on the President, just making an observation when it comes to his fashion choices.
I forgot the link.
you can see the mettalic version here.

metallic i mean.
The little girls are growing up! *sniff* I am always struck at what a nice family they seem to be. I hope they have a great time in Maine.
@Cincinnati Kid: I know what you mean -- many men in the public eye could use a little help in the style department. But the risks of the President being called lightweight and dandyish are probably so high that it's probably best for him to stick to the basics. Remember how John Edwards was pilloried for his $200 haircut? For the president to show up in some slightly more fashion-forward choices would probably whip his opponents into a frenzy.
And, in fairness, it may just not be his inclination. Some people are just not into that. But I agree that some of the suggestions you make could look good on him.
Thanks for the information on Mrs. O's handbag. Does anyone know if the one she carried in NYC, early Spring was Lambertson Truex too?
I don't think President Obama is afraid of what people are going to say. There is an interview where he says he hates fashion and hate tight pants. even Malia teases him that he buys his shirts in only neutral colors.First Lady has said he has pants and belts that are more than a decade old. he is simply not into that. They are multiple pics of him all over the net.even pics of him before he became president. His style has remained the same.
And regarding John Edwards 400$ haircut. i think the criticism was completely warranted. he was after all the guys who was talking about poverty and two americas which is true. but is was the hypocrisy which was called out not his actual haircut.
I don't think that the president is afraid of what anyone has to say, either. I, personally, think the risks of him going in that direction seem high, not that he's afraid to do so. Michelle Obama has already been, and continues to be, criticized for her fashion choices. You're right that John Edwards was called out for hypocrisy, but too many stupid people (in my opinion) would leap at the opportunity to make the argument that a pocket square makes the president too "European" and out of touch with the working man, etc. etc. I don't want to see some debate over the cut of his suits get whipped up like the "debate" over Michelle's bare arms.
I'd love to see him dress in a more fashion-forward way because I think he could wear so many items of clothing well! But if it's not his inclination, then we'll just have to use our imaginations.
I'm in love I love this family, I hope they get the rest and bonding that they need.
There is only one thing that I would really like President Obama to do with his suits and that is to do something about the drape of his pant legs over his shoes. Instead of a clean line, the pant legs are rather "bunched-up" on top of his shoes. A good tailor could hem the pant legs to drape in a clean line over his shoes. The technique of doing this is something that a good tailor knows how to do.
I think that making this simple adjustment might help to enhance President Obama's appearance in his classic choice of dress. He would have a clean line from head to toe regardless of the suit, shirt, tie and shoes that he is wearing..
I'm seeing this "bunched-up" pant legs over the shoes with most men and, for me, it's unattractive.
The Obama girls look fab as usual. My president looks appropriate for the his role and reflection of the economic times we are experiencing. He doesn't need to be styled like a rock star. He has enough pressures and critics slamming him over stupid/frivolous stuff. He is impressive as he stands.
Yes, the President is definitely not a fashion icon but when you think about what he wakes up to every morning, I think he has other things on this mind. Remember he said that we were not going to see him in skinny jeans. He is handsome though and always looks great, to me, anyway, in that tired navy polo he wears all the time.LOL
I just feel for the poor man....he had to give a speech today and it was in the 90's. He looked fresh as a daisy and I don't know how he did it. The poor man would probably love to work in shorts and a t-shirts like many other men we know. He probably just wrapped up his work day and changed clothes on the plane. I hope they have a great family weekend.
As much as I really love Mr President, this blog us about Mrs Obama and her fashion. I think we should stick to that. Madame Obama looks fab again, and yes the First daughters are growing beautifully. Enjoy your weekend First Family!
Christina, did you see that Glen Beck thought Mrs. Obama shirt looked like the oil spill too and he called it an outrage. When I saw that I automatically thought of you and was like dang Christina, see what you started!! LOL, just kidding, but that was funny. People will just use any little thing to go against the Obamas.
I really love that shirt Mrs. O has on and I am a little perplexed by her sandals. The girls look cute as usual and on one of the pics I could tell that Malia has her braces. I think it is a lost cause for the President and we just have to accept him as is.
There are pics of them on a boat on yahoo as well. They are wearing different outfits.
Good golly Miss Molly! Look at that 40 something year old woman's body! I should be (and I am) ashamed of myself. Lord knows my hectic schedule probably looks like FLOTUS' schedule on a slow day when she has the flu......HAVE MERCY! If I don't get off my haunches and stop talking about this, my backside and mid-section is going to look like melted butter.
Anyway.....cute traveling outfits for entire First Family. I sure hope they are able to enjoy themselves. It seems that as long as they are together they have fun. Well as much fun as you can have living in a fish bowl. It's good that they not only love each other, but they like one another as well.....so important! So inspiring!
I loved the lime green bag, thanks for the name - but can't find it anywhere, looks like Saks is totally sold out, bummer...
The Obamas are in for a wonderful treat in Maine. Acadia National Park is so gorgeous! Google it, Girls!
Wowie, we haven't seen many pictures of the Obama daughters and, like many of you ladies, I am stunned at how tall they are. Good heavens, Malia is nearly as tall as POTUS. I agree with Christina (sniff )that the little girls are growing up fast.)What grades are the girls in this coming year? Anybody know? Cute young ladies! Love Michelle's top.
New photos up on White House Flickr--not many of Michelle and nothing new in outfits, but I especially like this one taken before they went out for remarks on the Fourth:

The family is heading out for a time of refreshment! My...the girls have grown so fast! First Lady Michelle's outfit is so cute and refreshing! Really have to find a clearer photo so I can see her cute sandals! I really like her top...the ruffles softly decorates the bodice and gently strolls along the right shoulder of her top...very feminine!
Mrs.O is looking mighty sharp in her shorts

Mrs Obama go on vacation and enjoy yourself wherever you please. If you go and vacation to the gulf they will say it is a publicity stunt.
I love the sandals and the ruffle t shirt!
"I'm seeing this "bunched-up" pant legs over the shoes with most men and, for me, it's unattractive."
When he speaks most people focus on his face. This little fashion misstep may actually save him from something that always bugs the heck out of me: when most men sit down, their pants ride up and you see half their hairy calf and their sock! Ugh!
It looks like the FLOTUS matched her bag to her pedicure. I like the baby blue on her. Her bag looks very useful and chic here as it did in lime green. I'm with her - buy something you really love in multiples!
Do you not love the joy on Miss Sasha's face? She is something else!
Here are pics of Day 2

They all look wonderful...The girls r getting taller n gorgeous ! @ susan Malia will be entering the 7th grade...While sasha will be entering the 4th grade...Wow how time flies !!!
chrystelle I think you are right about the dress and pattern. I guess my question would be did Mrs.O have the dress altered? It is to the knee in this picture. http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/102959092
And she's carrying the lime tote. :)
Ann_T, you have to know that outfits don't come in the stores as they are presented on the runway. The runway is always supposed to be more eye-catching which is why you see more legs on the runway and these models are younger than Mrs.O.
I've looked all over trying to find that purse to buy.
@ Carla, we saw that Lambertson Truex bag here on the post from April 23rd. I think the Saks stores carry them, for whatever reason the online website does not. This company was bought out by Tiffanys, so maybe that's a place to start. If you have friends across the pond, tell them to check out Harrods. It was a hot seller there at one time along with Longchamp handbags. HAPPY SHOPPING!!!
Also check out ebay. There is one that is similar to this one but in yellow. Item #370391933786 $188.99. The seller has a pretty good feedback score of 99.7%.Hope this helps!
Who made those adorable black sandals she has on? I love them!
Thanks Charlene.
Does anyone know who made the sandals that Mrs. O is wearing on her way to Maine? Please advise.
Beautifull dress, i love the design on that grey top . The sandal is fabulous, i really love to won one fo them, manicure perfect, hairdo well brushed, the bangles well -suited. I have no comment but thought the debat has closed , i cannot help asking why Mrs O goes sleeveless all along the entire year?
@ Chitotowncathy and Ablema, I believe those sandals are by Maison Martin Margiela.
Hey guys, look at the post from last year, August 30th's return from Martha's Vineyard. She's wearing the same Maison Margiela sandals and carrying another Lambertson Truex tote! The website www.thefind.com has a list of places that still carry Lambertson Truex.
The all-American family, for sure! Malia is sooo tall! She is such a blend of Mom and Dad. Sasha looks like neither!
Love the clothes, fresh and fashionable.
Like the Reese dress, but I prefer dresses that cut at the waist (not A-line or Empire, whichever-if any of those two-this is an example of).
Just love this family! And Oh my, how the beautiful Malia has grown! I relate because I was almost as tall as her when I was 12 years old. Mrs. O looks fresh and beautiful as usual. Love the Tracy Reese dress.
WH Music Series tonight @ 7:00 p.m. Can't wait to see what she wears.
the family pictures are often my favorite - MO's casual vacation outfits are frequently stylish.
Those girls are adorable.
back from a long hiatus and spending the afternoon catching up on postings. i must say it's a great luxury! i love love love when mrs o wears fitted dresses with A line or sheath skirts. those look fantastic on her and accentuate her curves best!
