An Exercise in Style

Images by Tim Sloan / Getty Images

Almost a week after the state dinner, Mrs. O was back in action yesterday, kicking off the South Lawn Series, a summer long event "to bring local children, sports leagues, community programs and coaches to the South Lawn to participate in sports, games and activities."

On the style front, the first lady paired a black and white floral shell from Talbots with slim black pants, and what I believe are black sequin Converse sneakers!

Posh Tater, Well said.

Gwen-Day Fuller "I think First Lady Obama and President Obama could never do anything correct for some people. I agree with Calle!!!! Those individuals should go to another website. Please let us enjoy one place where our First Lady and President can be praised for how they look and what they do."

Haters, feel free to go to another site with those who share your venom.

Ladies, continue in the spirit of love to our First Lady and President. I think they are simply the best!!

Wishing you all light, light and Love

Go Mrs. Obama! The outer shell of Mrs. Obama's top looks like georgette which is one of my favorite fabrics. So light and airy!

@ Posh Tater! You are definitely one of my 'must reads' on this site. I actually go on a ‘stake out’ for your (and some others) reverberating comments! Then begin to RRLOL! Also, Ms. Posh, my version of Corinne Baily Rae’s song to you is thus,

“Girl put your record on, then sing your favorite song, go get your sequined converses on!”

Posh I know that.i was just writing it to rile up the thought police.initially for me it was just a tongue-in-cheek kind of thing.
Jenh, i hope to god you are not a woman-what a setback it would be. Dr Jill Biden works hard and if she wants to be called "Dr" everywhere she is, it is her damn right!

This thread is so funny!

@Jenh - totally agree with you, the Dr. thing sounds silly and pretentious and I dont' think it will go over well come 2012, when the current administration tries for re-election.

There are so few women who can claim the title of First Lady - it seems like a more exclusive club -
Everytime I see Dr. Obama, I just roll my eyes - get real folks - life is too short

yeah River Rush, people will not vote for them in 2012 because Dr Jill Biden is called Dr.Jill Biden

talk about silly! no offense by the way

The only people who feel being called Dr. is pretentious are those with low self esteem and whose hearts are filled with envy over one person's accomplishments. Green is NOT a good color to wear ladies.

love, love this outfit. I could wear this style all summer.

pharmacists are referred to as "doctor" as well which is correct as they have a clinical doctorate degree. a lawyer practicing in academia as a professor would also be called "dr." as all the faculty at the colleges of law are. they might not prefer to be called by it in a professional setting but in academia it is ok. so are veternarians, optomotrists, mds, phds and dentists.

Mrs. O. has not been referring to herself as "Dr. Obama," so why are the rest of you? She does not strike me as a pretentious woman, so why are you insisting on being pretentious FOR her?

@ Jestina, you are so welcome! I think you'll love your Converse Chucks. It's so funny to see how this brand had stayed true to it's original self all these years. I remember when I was a kid, my brothers wore them because my parents were really cost conscience. Now look today, they're still cost effecient and so fashionable. Personally, I like the zebra striped ones and I've seen the black ones that our Michelle wears. They are really HOT! HAPPY SHOPPING !!!

Super comfortable very very nice look. LOTS of softness. It's liberty inspired (do many things, wear for many occasions) and will always be in style. One of my favourites, sooo dainty, very fluid fabric. I just LOVE IT. Every woman should have this piece in her closet.

Our first lady is trying to get kids moving. It matters to adults what she is wearing. Kids really don't care what she wears. Why is it your business how much her clothes, shoes or purse cost? She should look depart from us. She is the FLOTUS, and we shouldn't expect to see her looking any different. She wasn't doing situps or pushups, cmon folks she was trying to motivate the KIDS.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, I seen that top in Talbots on sale. I did not get it, but now I wish I did. Keep us wondering what's next first lady. I love you.

Hey Ladies, Sketchers sell a nice blinged out pair of sneakers too. I bought a pair and wear them with my black crops and cute top. And, if I feel like running, guess what? I DO.
