Stunning in Peter Soronen

The first lady is a vision in blue this evening, wearing a stunning one-shoulder gown by the great American designer Peter Soronen. There is a quality about this look that is pure perfection -- at once timeless and timely, embodying a thoroughly American brand of glamour. From the classic, handcrafted gown, to the impeccably chosen accessories, our first lady has never looked better. What a moment!
The azure blue gown was created using three layers of fabric -- chiffon over lame chiffon and silk. As is Peter Soronen's signature, the gown features a corset top with a lace-up back. The concept of the gown, one-shoulder aside, recalls the lavender Peter Soronen dress Mrs. O wore for the Kennedy Center Honors in December.
Update: A new detail to report! Mrs. O's shoes last evening were Jimmy Choo "Jasper" Rhinestone sandals. The first lady also wore a pair of Sutra Jewels blue sapphire and diamond earrings. Click here to hear Peter Soronen talking about the gown on Access Hollywood!

This dress is pure fun. As I said, I think based on her red dress from earlier, she was going for the "Red, White and Blue" theme.
I agree with you Shaleshea Reid, it would've been nice if Sra. Z glammed it up a little more, but she appears to be a very understated person, which is fine. I imagine it's hard to prepare to meet Mrs. O for events like this if you're not too big into fashion.

Good for Peter Soronen that Mrs. O wears another one of his evening gowns. One shouldered gowns were hot on the runway this Spring. I have looked fwd to Mrs. O rocking a one shouldered gown in a fabulous way and so glad to see her in this one. Reminds me a bit of inauguration night. However, don't love the fabric and the fit is a bit off. Seems like too much fabric. A bit bulky. She looks extra tall today. She must be wearing some high heeels.
I reallly don't like the Mexican first lady's outfit. Quite disappointing.

I don't always love Mrs O's fashion choices but this look is absolutely stunning. The style and color of the dress are breathtaking. And I LOVE the hair. It is so becoming. She also has just the right amount of accessories. This might be one of her best ever.

I just flipped on C-SPAN and saw the arrival ceremony. I gasped when I saw FLOTUS in that gorgeous sparkly blue dress and with her curly coif. Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!

This dress is like fire and ice! What an amazing color! Just look at how the light reflects off of that belt and fabric, like early morning sunshine dancing on a open blue sea...magical!
I am once again pleasantly surprised at how easily Mrs.O can go from sweat pants and sneakers into ballroom gowns and heels and look extremely comfortable in both. And, also loving how much this hair style is reminding me of a young Whitney Houston and Mrs.O is rockin' it!
