Easter Glee

AP Photo/Charles Dharapak

The first family hosted the annual White House Easter Egg Roll today, which also included performances by Sara Bareilles, Justin Bieber and the cast of the hit TV show "Glee." (Mrs. O can be seen enjoying a "Glee" performance in the first photo above.)

Per the Washington Post, the first lady kicked off the festivities with a few remarks:

"Today we have transformed the South Lawn into a playground. We're going to have 30,000 people in our back yard today, and we want every single one of you to have fun."

Mrs. O was projecting "fun" through her ensemble as well, wearing a floral print pink shirt paired with a fluorescent pink cardigan, white pants and silver sneakers.

The first lady is a very busy person. She surely has clothing stylists, hair stylists, make up artists, and protocol managers to help her select clothing and accessories for every occasion and keep her looking her best always. No bad hair days for this lady.
I am so impressed by the Obama girls behavior and demeanor in public. Good etiquette lessons and coaching. There was a day that all children were schooled in manners and how to behave in social situations. Wouldn't it be wonderful, if we all cared enough to pass these kinds of social skills on to all of our children? (As a matter of fact, wouldn't it be great if all of us adults had good manners and social skills to pass on to our children?) What a leg up in the world children would have.

I love how we only see the girls occasionally. Each time we see them they have grown and matured into such beautiful young ladies. Last year at the inauguration Sasha had to stand on a box and she had lost her baby teeth. Now she is losing the baby face and maturing into a preteen. And don't get me started on Malia. She is just growing by leaps and bounds. I don't usually comment on the girls but they are just amazing to watch. If we had seen them everyday I don't think the change could be appreciated. The O's and Mrs Robinson deserve cudos for protecting them and letting us only have occasional glances.

Now back to our regularly scheduled Mrs O stalking.

Here's a link to some photos of the Glee cast with the Obamas and at the White House. How cool for them!

Anagrom--Actually it is Malia who is the preteen at 11 years old. Sasha is only 8 so she has a bit yet to go to reach that stage. Sixty minutes did a special on the Obama family in Chicago in 2007 early in the campaign. In the kitchen making sandwiches, Malia was about waist high to her father. When asked if he makes sandwiches for them every Saturday, she said, "Are you kidding?"

The family celebrated the Fourth of July in Montana in 2008. It was also Malia's 10th birthday. Barack's sister, Maya, relates about them having a birthday party for her in their hotel room. Her father commented on how tall she was getting to be and then he began to cry.

Sasha has been growing, but always looks small because Malia is so tall. If she follows Malia's pattern, she should start shooting up within the next couple of years.

SPRING PUTS A SPIRIT OF YOUTH IN EVERYTHING!

So, here I am back from my temporary hiatus to be greeted by all this love and colour! These pictures reflect everything that Spring is about:

Growth - Malia getting oh so tall
Fun - grooving to the music of Glee and Sara Bareilles and
Loads of Laughter - check out that photo of Malia on Yahoo yawning. Adorable!

This is what families need to do in order to stay together, and I love the fact that the OBAMAS lead by EXAMPLE.

Rocky, You certainly have a way with your words and I could not have said it better myself. The Obama’s make me long for a husband and family of my own. They send out such a positive message and really live and breath family values and good old fashioned morals. I watched the Live Stream on Easter Monday. Yes, I sat there grinning and cheesing at my computer terminal all afternoon. Everyone there looked like they were having so much fun. The weather was nice, the sun was shining and the readers looked like they were sitting in a mini Secret Garden.

Can you imagine returning to work on Monday and telling your colleagues that you went to the White House over the Easter !!!!! Michelle has remained true to her promise when she said that she wanted to open up the house to people other than politicians and dignatories. I wish our government in England did a fraction of that for regular folk. Even with the General Election a few weeks away, they are all still centred on winning rather than reaching out.

The Obama’s are REALLY going to leave a legacy.

@ desertwind -

I love that Diana Vreeland pronounced Pink as the Navy Blue of India. I wonder what the black would be - Orange?

@ jestina...the Obama family does have a way of making you just cheese away. I was grinning a lot when I was watching the event, and I just recently watched the president throw out the pitch at the opening game for the Washington Nationals, and even though it was a terrible throw, he looked like he had a ball, and I think he liked messing with people when he put on the White Sox cap when he reached the mound. Once again, a cheeseable moment for me. I also liked the video of him shooting hoops with Clark Kellogg. He's very youthful at heart. The entire family loves life, and even though the weight of their responsibility is something they certainly feel, as evidenced by the Easter Sunday picture before, they take time to love life.

@ Rocky...I, too, enjoy your way with words.

Someone on this thread mentioned how much they love cherry blossom time in DC......it just so happens that in DC the Cherry Blossom Festival is from March 27-April 11th! The FLOTUS reflected that in her choice of shirt... What a gracious homage to her adopted city!

Too cute, mom and daughter getting jiggy with it.
I so appreciate that they let us share in so many of their very public personal moments.

The look...family, fun and comfort for all!

What I like the most about this First Family is that they display their love and fun among each other publicly. There's not a snooty, stuffed-shirt, better than you attitude anywhere, as compared to many previous administrations.
