First Lady Mrs. O joined the President and Vice President this morning to attend the funeral services for civil rights leader Dorothy Height, who passed away at age 98 on April 20. The services were held at the National Cathedral in Washington, with President Obama due to deliver the eulogy.
While most media coverage has naturally focused on Ms. Height's profound civil rights influence, there has also been a bit of attention placed on her legacy of "fashion flair." In a piece today, Robin Givhan of the Washington Post profiles Ms. Height's style influence, celebrating "her formal wardrobe of feminine suits in lush colors and, most specifically, her glorious hats." You can find the full piece here.

I wasn't trying to "make a case" for anything. It was not a picture my husband and I saw, but a video that went on for some time. Both of us were of the same mind that it was an "odd" look...I didn't say that it meant anything...it was just "odd."
@ bevi - yes, she wore a baseball cap and shorts when visitng the Grand Canyon.
She also wore one when Mr. President launched his bid for the White House in Springfield, IL.
I was extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Dorothy Height. Her work with the African American Annual Family Reunion Diaspora was one of the things that prompted our family in 1999 to finally stop talking about a reunion and do it. We finally made it happen and we've gathered every two years since then. She was so instrumental in The Civil Rights movement as well as imploring blacks to remain steadfast and keep our families together no matter what. Such a classy and elegant lady....the true definition of a lady and she will be sorely missed and hopefully never forgotten.
Yes, I think the President was moved by the eulogy and such. I agree it's strength to show vulnerability. I was just bringing light to the attention that POTUS is human and is affected by things just like everyone else. It wasn't meant to be a negative comment. I just thought I would give clarity to my statement that's all.
