First Look: Fall 2010

Below are the Fall 2010 collections from a few of the first lady's favorite designers and labels: Jason Wu (who received a mixed review from Cathy Horyn), Suno (met with acclaim by Style Bubble) and Prova New York (completely covetous, in my personal opinion). I'll continue to post new collections throughout the week.

I tend to agree with the mixed review of Jason Wu. Some of it made me gag. The loose coats over the dresses were the best part.
Hey Mrs. T,
Thanks for the post! I enjoyed it. Personally, I liked most of Jason Wu's feminine dresses. I think Mrs. O would look great in these.
Do you get the opportunity to attend some shows?
Hi ann#1, I love Jason Wu's dresses too. I thought the silhouettes were a bit strange at times, particularly at the start of the show, but the last series of dresses were very lovely.
In terms of attending the shows, I went to the Prova presentation on Sunday night, and am going to Naeem Khan and Narciso Rodriguez this week. I find the scene to be a bit anxiety inducing to be honest. But I suppose it's worth that part for the opportunity to see the actual shows, which present the clothes with an energy, fantasy and vision I don't always perceive by clicking through images online.
I only liked about 4 of the day dresses........ the rest of the collection was like taking a trip on acid. What was Wu thinking? That black and white faux-maternity monstrosity of a dress was absolutely hideous! Ugh!!
the march issue of vogue features a photoshoot of style bloggers, including Mrs.T

Fall 2010...........indeed, because some of those hideous platform shoes will surely cause you to fall.
I love that you are having the opportunity to attend some shows, and I also understand the anxiety bit!!!
I really liked the Jason Wu show. That first coat I liked very much, as well as a green dress with a gold panel on the skirt, and the grey silk with black lace overlay. Those would be for ME! There were a lot of dresses that would suit Mrs O down to the ground but I couldn't list them all. The silhouette of the coat that was first out reminded me of the eighties. We all used to go and buy old mens coats down at Camden Market... all these tiny teenagers in enormous bulky grandad coats!! There was one dress I kind of winced at... the bubble skirted thing on a dropped waist. Just.... well it looked like the kind of thing you cobble together in your bedroom when you are thirteen before you've worked out cutting. Sorry.
Suno's stuff was difficult - I loved the impression I got from it (the shoes, the tights, the styling was great and I loved the riot of prints and florals), but I couldn't wear it so it's hard to pick out loveable pieces. I did notice a peacock feather print on a skirt that looked nice, and there was a little cardigan at the end I could see the First Lady working.
Suno's collection looks more wearable and pleasing to the eye than Wu's but I think the FLOTUS would be better off buying one of these pieces for Malia! A bit young, no?
The FLOTUS & POTUS are on the cover of the March issue of Essence magazine. Cute picture! Great articles.

@lisam, Thanks for this link.
Mrs. T - wow, I'm so happy to see that you were featured in the vogue photoshoot
of style bloggers. Just...great!!!! Make sure, you get your beauty sleep during
your very busy week. Enjoyed the fashion videos.
Thanks lorns! It was an amazing experience, and I was beyond grateful and a bit shocked that this blog (...and me along with it) were featured. As soon as the issue comes out, I will do a short blog post on the experience.
Oh how exciting and fun! I started coming to this site to follow and enjoy Mrs. O's fashion. Now, we get to follow your young exciting life too!
Thanks lisam! The shoot looked like so much fun. I like the dress they selected for you.
I had read Horyn's piece and - especially after the Maria Pinto announcement - kind of worried about Jason Wu. But I really liked most of this line. I don't think he's at his best handling huge swaths of fabric (the long evening gowns were somewhat uncontrolled), but he's very good with sleek, body-conscious designs. I especially loved the pieces with the gold paint.
I also liked much of the Suno clothing - a piece here and there, worn with other designers could be a great look for MO. The shoes? Not so much . . . but I'm not sure we were meant to take them very seriously.
i believe the march issue of vogue is out. magazine issues are always dated a month ahead.
I've heard from another blogger in the story that it comes out tomorrow. As of this weekend, it wasn't yet on newsstands.
Here's what noted fashion blogger The Emperor's Old Clothes had to say about Jason Wu on Sunday:

Ohhh I really liked the Suno shoes opfan - especially the soft grey suede boots. Platforms are a summer favourite of mine. Can't manage without them. J'adore!
