Sheer Delight

First Lady Mrs. O is dazzling in a black party frock to attend 'A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement' event at the White House this evening. Tres chic!
Update #1: Reader Miss R has brought something quite interesting to our attention. The first lady may, in fact, be wearing a high waisted skirt paired with a sheer blouse. Mrs. O was seen wearing a similar skirt in December 2007, here.
Update #2: 'A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement' will air tonight, February 11th, on PBS at 8pm EST. Of note, performer Jennifer Hudson wore a Mrs. O favorite for the event - a custom cocktail dress with sequin sleeves by Peter Soronen!

OH MY GOD, SO CHIC, SO YOUNG, SO MY KINDA DRESS, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting dress. Are those panniers on the sides?
Hmmm...It likes she going to a funeral...Wish the dress had a little more color to it.
OMG! That took my breath away! so youthful and chic.
She is *FIERCE!!!!!!!!!*
*SWOON*
"Dazzling" is the perfect word to describe our flotUS! Just perfect.
I love it!
Love it!!!!
Cute! I like a little above-the-knee action. :-)
Classic! Best thing to happen to the White House since Jackie and John!
What an adorable, age-/position-appropriate "little black dress"!
Wooo hooo!!!!
Absolutely stunning!
Love it. Does anyone know if Bob Dylan's performance is online yet?
LIFE!!!!
Is she wearing some really high heels?! I hope so and I hope she keeps it up!
What a gorgeous balck dress, She looks amazing. LOVE IT. Michelle est très chic ce soir.
STUNNING!!! This is truly a First Lady to behold! She is gorgeous!!!
She was terrific on larry King tonight. So authenthic, so down to earth and no petty mind games. Spectacular through and through.
Okay, Wow, exquisite, I love the ornate bodice, the sheer sleeves; I look forward to knowing who designed this yet another original take on the little black dress worn by FLOTUS.
Wow! Yet again Michelle dazzles by daring to be herself and not paying any mind to the old rules!
A tall woman can't wear very high heels because she'll "tower"?? Show 'em, Mrs. O! Women over 40
can forget short dresses or showing knees?? Show 'em, Mrs O! As a woman who is 5'10" and happily 50 myself, (and proud to be in good shape) I thank you! And I also thank you for a classy,
intelligent, down-to-earth, empathetic appearance on Larry King Live tonight. Kudos and good
wishes on your anti-obesity campaign.......it's good t shine a light on this serious, life-shortening
issue. You're a gift to the nation!
Cute dress! And I will forever favor the higher heels.
I think the dress she wore on Larry King was a repeat. Looks like the one she wore in Vogue gazing out at the White House days before the inauguration. Mrs. T can you confirm?
I just loveeeeeeeeeeee this picture.... they look so comfortable with each other, look how she's blushing!
They have such a great time with each other. The smiles say it all. I watched the afternoon program for the students and it was wonderful. I can't wait to see the evening performance. When will it be shown on T.V.?
Wow! Simply gorgeous! "Tres chic" indeed, Mrs. T.
Yowza!
The evening will be broadcast on PBS this Thursday night. Not sure if it will also be on their website. It sounds like a wonderful show.
hum hum!!!
elegant! i love it!!
I think the dress is cute for a young woman, but I would REALLY love to see our First Lady wearing pantyhose. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Mrs. Obama, but I really wish she would go back to some of the feminine traditions. I think it is important for young ladies to see this in our First Lady. I love her, though.
Are you going to be telling us about the dress MO wore on Larry King Live last night?
Although I love Mrs. O in bright clear colors, she also looks fabulous in black knee-length dresses for evenings. (A signature look for her?) My favorite is the Alaia she wore for the NATO dinner in Baden Baden. This dress is gorgeous (love the sleeves), appropriate, flattering, youthful...wonderful! Yup, she's giving the President something to smile about!
Absolutely sensational. The First Lady has a fantastic pair of legs and a great figure. I must get down the gym !!!!!
Sighhhh :-) She looks GORGEOUS !!!!...I watched it on live stream last nite...N sasha n malia also looked PRETTY as well...Luv this family 2 pieces !!!
Absolutely DIVINE!!!!!! Love the above the knee look with the sheer sleeves......so flirtatous.
The "little black dress" has gone to the next level.
Way to go, Mrs. O!
I love the look; I love this couple!
THE POTUS KNOW HE HAS THE MOST AMAZING FLOTUS ON HIS ARM LOOK AT THAT BIG CHEESY GRIN HE IS SAYING THIS AMAZING SMART WOMEN IS MY WIFE. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE PBS SPECIAL ON THURSDAY. MS T ANY WORD ON WHO THE DRESS IS BY.
I love the COUPLE TOO SoccerNana. GORGEOUS little black dress. What a FIRST LADY!!
Lovely dress, but too short. The knees are a distraction.
I was listening to the radio when I clicked on Mrs-O.org (which is in my favorites btw) and as the page came up and the Warsaw Concerto by iIchard Addinsell started playing and it was so perfect because this vision of elegance popped up on my screen at the same time! The sleeves add the perfect hybrid of sensuality and appropriateness to the fabulous LBD, which, by the way, is such a fresh take on the classic. Haven't seen a stunner from her since the Naaem Khan and this was a breath of fresh air! I AM IN LOVE.
Wow, they sure don't make First Ladies like they used to! Once again, our Michelle shows us how to "wear it and wear it well". This LBD dress is hot and PLEASE don't get me started about those shoes. My New Year's fashion resolution was to ease up on buying black shoes.....I don't know about that one. If you look on gettyimages you can see the deatils in the shoes, high heel with side cut-outs and sharp as all get-out. I likey!
the dress speaks for itself.it is beyond fabulous. but i'm interested in her shoes.they are pretty spectacular.Mrs.T can u please provides us some infos about them?
and her teal dress? who designs it? i would have love it even more without the cardi but i guess she wore it so she could pin the brooch on.
W-O-W.
I mean...... just ..... WOW.
Wipe the floor with my jaw.
Ahhh, go on.
Mrs. O looks absolutely exquisite in this dress. She is looking as confident as ever. Mr. O is not looking bad himself. They made an adoreable couple.
Wow...they are charming....she looks FAB! I just love watching our FLOTUS show the world what class REALLY looks (and sounds) like! Thanks Mrs. T
Chrystelle, I thought the teal dress was a Maria Pinto creation. Isn't it the same one that she wore to the DNC conference ? I love that dress, simple and elegant.
This look is stunning! Everything works so well - the length, the sleeves and the shoes!
The shoes look like the black pair she wore with the teal dress for the democratic convention (with the brooch worn on the teal cardigan).
She looks beautiful in this dress! I love the sleeves and the length of the dress that shows her fab legs. Shoes are gorgeous, and they look so happy!
I can't really see the details of her shoes, but they remind me of the black shoes she wore with the full skirt Alaia black dress in France when the Obamas took their first European tour.
ETA: I forgot to say that I LOVE the dress, very subtle sexy. She and Mr. O seemed to have a lovely time last night too.
S E N S A T I O N A L AND SEXCEEEE...WOOHOO
Those legs! Those arms! That smile! That DRESS!
I may have to lie down with a cool cloth on my head to recover.
I check out this blog everyday but today I felt compelled to put something down... I WANT THIS DRESS! The First Lady always looks amazing and today she has outdone herself. I mean she has worn better dresses but there is something about the simplicity of this dress- the detail is subtle yet amazing, the the sleeves are wonderful, the length is daring and racy and overall that is a well executed outfit. Please tell us who made this dress!!
The First Couple are gorgeous. They are each others best accessory. Love the dress. So flirty yet elegant. Definitely not something one would or should wear to a funeral.
@Dr. P.: Michelle hates pantyhose. She's said it several times. Why would we want her to do something she hates and that is outdated anyway? I hate pantyhose too. I used to work for a company with a strict dress code: had to wear pantyhose with dresses and skirts. Couldn't wear open-toed shoes. Ugh! I hated it! I totally understand how she feels. I hate the feel of those things against my skin and I've seen reports that say they cause bacterial infections (material is not breathable). Silk stockings I don't mind so much, but I reserve that for "special" occasions and maybe Mrs. O does too. ;) LOL!
