Holiday Preview

Images by Jewel Samad / Getty Images

There are many reasons to enjoy the holiday season, and in this circle, the chance to admire the first lady's seasonal wardrobe is certainly one! Mrs. O is off to a fabulous start, wearing a navy and gold ensemble to host a preview of the White House holiday decorations for military families earlier today. The more formal attire didn't stop the first lady from getting in on the fun, as Mrs. O helped to decorate cookies and make holiday cards with military children.

Update: The first lady's navy and floral print lurex jacquard ensemble are pre-Fall 2010 Moschino! Though difficult to see in the photo's above, the pieces include a top, skirt and jacket.

In fact, thanks for sharing your opinion. It was not mean and it was not impolite. It got conversation started.

I don't see why you even need to apologize.

Alright, I've been "blitzkrieg-ing" this board over the past two days...will let you guys breathe!

@ Joanne Stelling,

OH NO!!! Don't sign off and don't allow anyone to run you off this site. We need more people like you who with utmost tact and insight can eloquently discuss your point of view without disrespectful and snarkey remarks. You should not allow people like Sildi, who due to their inability to adjust their tone when discussing or debating in an open forum such as this one, to turn you away. It is a sad day when the more "reasoned" is being discouraged by the "abrasive and harsh". So, Joanne, if you truly believe your comments, then you need to stay here and help "monitor" this site (Mrs. T. cannot do it all by herself) so that we can all help maintain it to the standard Mrs. T. established early on. It is my belief that many think that because the Internet is such an anonymous environment, they are allowed to suspend common courtesy, decency, respect, and the notion of "think before you speak", after all, we all use fake names, nothing that would identify you to others (especially those you are critiquing or criticizing). So many feel free to use language and tone that is offensive and which they would never consider using if they were speaking to someone face to face. Finally, with all the boisterous, over-the-top venom that passes for discourse on many sites, the fact that this one has been able to maintain it's standard despite an occasional contretemp is a great achievement, thanks to Mrs. T's efforts. So I ask you to reconsider and stay, this site will always need people like you. Take care and have a great day!

Well, am I supposed to just take the word of the "press representative," or believe my own lyin' eyes? :-)

Navy and gold it is, then -- and seriously, I need a new monitor. For what it's worth, I think navy and gold is a nice twist on black and gold, which we've seen a lot before.

Joanne, I think you are taking Mia's comments too personally. I think you have to think about a person's point of reference. 50 or 60 might be oldER compared to Mia's age. I am in my late 20's and my younger cousins call me an old lady, but compared to them I am oldER. Of course we all know, relatively speaking, 50 or 60 is not old. I can't speak for Mia, but I really don't think she meant to offend you or anyone else. I don't think you should misout on this great site just because of a bad choice of words.

I would also like to say that I respect my 70yr old grandma, but I don't want to dress like her. (and she is as jazzy as they come ;-)

Mia, I don't agree with you, but I understand what you mean. However, that definitely was a bad choice of words. On a few occasions, I have wanted to use the "old lady" description, but I knew that would not blow over well. (and then you actually gave an age range, ooohweee!)

CID, it sounds like you got those get it girl boots. You go girl!

Now about Mrs. O, what can I say? She looks great as always. I really love that Mrs. O is so down to earth, especially around the kids.

@mszonian524

Thank you very much for your gracious post. It certainly gave me some second thoughts about leaving this site. But I realized that, though I enjoy Mrs. O's clothes very, very much, what I enjoy more is the politics of fashion, the power of image, and the metaphor that this amazing woman provides for the administration. I am not only a Mrs. O supporter but a Mr. O supporter as well. I believe in what he's trying to accomplish, even in the face of opposition by some very powerful and dangerous groups, specifically big corporate interests. Their constant drumbeat of criticism against Big Government as the ultimate evil, when they are the ones who have got this country in a vice, concerns me very much, as well as their deep-pocket funding of their toady candidates.

Mrs. O has somehow managed to navigate these perilous waters and emerge unscathed. Her fashion "mistakes" only make her more fascinating to me. Movie stars get paid to look perfect and promote the designers whose clothes they are wearing, yet they are somehow distant from our passions. For the most part, they follow the established rules and for the most part, it's boring.

Mrs. O does not get paid for her fashion choices and, in a very human way, it sometimes shows. I loved the debate about the belt above the waist; the sorrow and the pity, the frustration and the celebration. What other famous woman could inspire such passion over an accessory? It's that discovery, the reason why she has captured our hearts, and the deep resonance of her fashion choices, both the political and social consequence of them, that fire my interest. Plus, she just seems like the kind of woman who would be so much fun to have as a friend. So, in a nutshell, I think I need a more politically-oriented fashion site. In the meanwhile, Happy Holidays to you mszonian524! You've already given one person a gift.

Love the look.

Earrings don't age a person. Old has been redefined by the likes of Demi Moore, Madonna, Tina Turner, Sharon Stone, Kim Cattrall, Angela Basset, Catherine Deneuve and the list could go on and on. If this is what old is, than we should all be so lucky.
