A Perfect Pair

The president and first lady are hosting a reception for foreign ambassadors at the White House this evening, making a grand entrace in the photo above. Their sartorial symmetry, accomplished via bold color blocks of black, white and scarlet, delights the eye. More on Mrs. O's dress to follow.
Politico has the scoop on tonight's event:
"It was splashy affair, held under the chandelier glint of the Grand Foyer, replete with champagne and the music of the Marine String Ensemble. Musicians performed a handful of light jazz songs including Shadow of Your Smile and Come Back to Sorrento."
Update: Mrs. O wear a Jason Wu color block sheath with embroidered bodice, silk faille skirt, and red chiffon cummerbund.

We badger the fashion industry for making stick figures the standard of real beauty. Michelle comes along. She has curves and her abdomen is not flat. She has "flaws?" No, she is real. Mom of two kids, real. Ivy league-educated, real. Devoted wife, real. And to our delight, fashion lover, real.
Before Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce, my Mocha "bum" was considered to be a "flaw." Now, most men (including my Vanilla husband) LOVE the fact that I "got back." ;-)

She is, praise be to God, REAL.
Not to make this a battle of the English majors :), but "broach" is a variant of "brooch," so either is correct.

I have finally gotten around to answering you on the "Skin" and the "Fun" threads.
I am amazed that noone has commented on this dress making her butt stick out....look at the 2nd photo on huff-post. The dress is nice, but not on her body. Stomach from front, butt from back....
Ridiculous, but after reading this site routinely (o.k. obsessively...) since its inception, this is my first post and it's not even about fashion but spelling! By the way, Mrs O has one final event in Norfolk on Friday before the August vacation. So one more outfit for us all to see and weigh in on. (Ok, that seriously was just a play on words, nothing intended.)
Once more into the breech. I know some people view pictures on Yahoo others on Daylife or Huffingtonpost and even Getty. Every once in a blue moon there is a picture on Obama Pictures Daily, Black Snob or Obama Watch that I have never seen before. Is there another clearing house of sorts that you view pictures? If so can you please link those so that we all can enjoy.

I agree, Michelle's stomach is not a flaw. You women on here kill me, no michelle is not stick thin and neither should she be. All the comments on her weight are outrageous. She is a real woman.

They have their OWN money so the pay for their clothes like everyone else. The President makes over a half a million dollars a year!! Plenty of money to purchase $1500 dressess.

I guess I'm one of the few that doesn't love this dress on MO. The style does not flatter her figure; I thought the dress looked as though it might even be a size too small. She has a great figure, and in the right clothes e.g. the yellow Michael Kors suit she wore the other day - - she looks dazzling. If she is getting advice on clothes from a stylist, I don't think it's the best advice. I think someone on this board once wondered if she is just wearing whatever Ikram sends her. If so, then there are some hits, but a lot of misses. As well, I think there are some occasions when sleeveless is not always the most appropriate way to go.
NOT looking forward to the Obamas' vacation coming up, if it means going for WEEKS without any photos of Michelle! It will be a test of patience indeed. You can always go to "The Cut" and view all her outfits since the inauguation, just to savor all your favorite looks.
simone74, I agree. In this day and age, she herself (or those who design for her) should be able to pick up clothes that flatter her figure. Perhaps Ikram thinks she is just a clothes horse.

Obama. They look absolutely stunning coming down those stairs. They are indeed a special couple and they are so classy. I love the matching color combination. The photographer really caught the aura of this moment!!!!

@ operafanatic - she was almost being BLOWN away!!!! The weather was funky on the east coast today, so she had to deal with the wind and give a wonderful and inspiring speech WHILE looking fierce. She's good! I love the dress, the pin, and the coloring of the dress too! Yes, we will miss her during their vacation, but for Mr. O - it is much needed.

Yay!! Michelle is in my town!!! It is pretty windy and stormy today, the weather was nice while she was here. I love her dress....I think Michelle has made dress wearing fashionable again.

They President and first lady look absolutely perfect as they always do. What a knock-out this couple!
She always looks so fresh and uniquely her. No attempts at mimicking others; Mrs Obama is such a solid human being it shines through even as she effortlessly takes her place beside her incredible husband.
And in these times, with a world teeming with the awful and the fickle, how incredibly refeshing!
