Mrs. O at the Eiffel Tower

Photo by Miguel Medina /AFP/Getty Images

We love Mrs. O's Parisian-chic look. The first lady wears soft green vest and shirt, paired with a floral scarf as she and the O entourage tour the Eiffel Tour in Paris.

Update: We've learned that Mrs. O is wearing  a Prova scarf and Rick Owens Lilies vest and shirt. Click here to see the pieces in greater detail. Of note, Rick Owens in an American-born designer, who resides in Paris.

For shoes, the first lady is once again wearing her snazzy Lanvin sneakers. For a full-length look at this fabulous ensemble, shoes included, click here.

Continue reading after the jump for a detailed image of a similar style of Prova scarf. The line is carried at Ikram in Chicago. Such excitement!

Janelle,
Thanks for the new info!
That worked!

Janelle, I posted a reply to Iva 20 minutes ago and my comments are still in moderation. They have absolutely no links. I don't get it.

@ Leah D - I am watching both the feed on my computer and on tv. Mrs. O still has on the jacket.

Carla is confused about whether to keep the jacket on or leave it off. I suppose it's a bit cool, however she didn't plan the jacket situation well, so I think she doesn't really want to throw on that frumpy jacket over her nice dress.

I also read that she's wearing a cream colored dress, and the belt is brown. If that's the case, then the black jacket doesn't even match.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 8:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

Why did they give Mrs. O this tiny little man!!! LOL!

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:01 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

Mrs. O is next to Mr. O's Uncle Charlie who was in the war! Awwww, how cute!

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:04 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

marabout40 - I totally agree with you and couldn't have said it better myself. Just don't like the belt or its placement.

Love everything else, though! The dress reminds me of the purple Isaac Mizrahi she wore in NYC. I also love the Jimmy Choo Lantern heels in silver. Love, love, love the silver!!

And she's wearing really cool earrings, but I wish I could get a closer view of them.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:06 AM | Unregistered Commenterbmw

Uh-oh, marabout40, I hope you were easy on me! J/K!!!

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:06 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

No worries, Iva! This is what I said:

IVA, you’re right, of course. She obviously loves her belts. I think maybe if this one didn’t have the huge buckle and all the other detail it would work. It’s just a bit too gaudy for me and detracts from the elegance of the outfit she’s wearing.

Oh well, c’est Michelle

I had a little smiley face and maybe that's why it got stuck waiting for moderation.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:08 AM | Unregistered Commentermarabout40

@IVA I think Carla realized how hard her outfit fails next to Mrs.o plus it was wrinkly when she came off the helicopter, so she put that ugly jacket on.

FLOTUS is stunning. The man she is with is her Uncle in law.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:08 AM | Unregistered Commentertoi22

Ohhhh....they are talking smack so bad about Sarkozy who messed up with not inviting the Queen on MSNBC. Winston Churchill's grandson is just laying into Sarkozy. LOL.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:11 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

Watching sky news live coverage. Mrs.O refuses to go to her seat, opting to help the veterans instead. She's so at ease with everything, such a natural. Carla looks chic and demure, as usual, but a bit uncomfortable and out of her depth. Mrs. O looks lovely, and happy.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:12 AM | Unregistered Commenterjayj

LOL @ marabout40. The smiley face will do it every time!

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:12 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

LOL...you can really hear the accents of the singers while they sing our anthem.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:16 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

Dang Carla looks pissed off and awkward.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:19 AM | Unregistered Commentertoi22

@ toi22 - I think she looks normal. I think she doesn't particularly care for these types of official "First Lady events." She seems relaxed, to me, though.

BTW - CSPAN is carrying the ceremony uninterrupted on tv.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:23 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

That was terrible to not invite the Queen! She's the only head of state alive now from that war. I just can't believe that happened. Even though the mistake happened, they didn't quickly correct it and it dragged on and on, which makes it doubly worse. She just recently got an invite which is insulting. I heard that all the war veterans are hopping mad, and I don't blame them.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:25 AM | Unregistered CommenterJanelle

Also, meant to add that I read that by the time the Queen got an invite, there wasn't time enough for the Palace to arrange her security for the event which takes many weeks in advance, so she sent Prince Charles. I feel bad for the vets, because they wanted to see her.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:36 AM | Unregistered CommenterJanelle

@iva I did not know that was the French Lady's normal face.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:37 AM | Unregistered Commentertoi22

It wasn't a mistake that the Queen was not invited. It was down to the British PM to extend his invitation to the Queen. The reason why there's so much fuss this year is because the POTUS is attending. This event is receiving greater attention because of the his presence.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:40 AM | Unregistered Commenteruklady

Um, Sarkozy's speech was filled with American praise but I feel kinda bad for the British and Canadian vets and leaders

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:45 AM | Unregistered CommenterJoane

I know this is a fashion blog, but I just have to say:

Sarkozy just gave the most eloquent speech regarding D-day. I turned on Fox News to watch the live coverage (and I'm embarressed to admit that I wanted to see Michelle's outfit live) and it dawned on me what this event is really about. It's about so much more than the fashion. God bless all who fought that day from every country.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:49 AM | Unregistered Commenterbmw

Both Mrs. O and Ms. Bruni look lovely. I am not a fan of the large silver belt (I would have preferred a amore classic navy blue or Black), but the fact that she is wearing those pretty heels more than makes up for anything else I don't like about the look. Ms. Bruni's sleeveless look is a tad underdressed for the occasion (see, I am an equal opportunity non-liker of sleeveless at official functions)

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9:55 AM | Unregistered CommenterLilly O

bmw, I agree this occasion has deeper meaning than what the first ladies are wearing and that we owe so much who sacrificed everything on D-Day. Where I part with you though, is on the eloquence of Sarkozy's speech. I wondered if he'd written it himself. It was choppy and was obviously not fact-checked.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:06 AM | Unregistered Commentermarabout40

I think out poor President was all speeched out after his big Cairo speech. This wasn't one of his most inspirational. Still good, though, but not vintage Obama.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:12 AM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

God I love my President. The man can tell a beautiful story. He knows that it is these stories that help us look past our differences so we can come together for the greater good.

Every time I hear him speak, I'm riveted. There were vets in the audience crying.

It's no wonder I wasn't impressed with Sarkozy's speech. Who can compare to President Obama.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:13 AM | Unregistered Commentermarabout40

I thought Sarkozy speech was very nice

Thanks, desertwind, for the mention of Anokhi scarves site after seeing Mrs. O's lovely scarf--beautiful, 100% cotton, block print, designs.

Speaking of Nigerians, wasn't President Obama supposed to go to Ghana? Is that a separate trip?

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:19 AM | Unregistered Commentermarabout40

Black peoples hair can grow without white genes. Have you heard of dreadlocks?

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 12:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterYour Name

so who is paying for the whole bloody entourage? did craig and his half-breed kids fly commercial?

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 1:13 PM | Unregistered Commentersunshine

I am a BLACK AFRICAN woman with VERY long hair Stop with the White Gene crap and appreciate the family

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 4:02 PM | Unregistered CommenterAlmaz

No time to read all the comments, so no flaming please.

Interesting that what appears to be a jacket or sweater is a leather vest with a large collar over a thin knit long-sleeved tee in the same color. US$2200+ Pricey, but nicey.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 4:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterBeeGee

I love seeing Malia and Sasha....they look so much like some of my friends who's parents are from Somalia and Kenya. FLOTUS looks great as usual, picking designers no one associate with her, typical of a styling fashionista.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 5:28 PM | Unregistered CommenterCyndi

yeah its pricey BeeGee....but since we do not pay for her cloths, heck even their food is covered by their own money....I could care less.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 5:29 PM | Unregistered CommenterCyndi

marabout40,

Yes it is a separate trip, in July.

Russia - July 6-8th

Italy - July 8-10th - President Obama will attend a Group of Eight summit in Italy.

Africa – Accra, Ghana - July 10-11th - The President and Mrs. Obama will visit. While in Ghana, the President will discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues with Ghanaian President Mills. The President and Mrs. Obama look forward to strengthening the U.S. relationship with one of our most trusted partners in sub-Saharan Africa, and to highlighting the critical role that sound governance and civil society play in promoting lasting development.

Told you guys, Mrs O knows fashion! Any woman who appreciates Rick Owens, Junya Watanabe and Alaia is a woman after my heart...

Rick Owens makes classic pieces that hold their value and actually appreciate (believe it or not; try looking for even a used Rick Owens leather jacket and you'll see what I mean-

Yes, Rick Owens might appear "pricey" to some, but for those who know, his versatile pieces are great investments which only get better with age.

I own a few Rick Owens pieces and I'm not even the First lady of the United States of America...

Queen Elizabeth should have been asked to be at the D-Day Ceremony. I don't know who's to blame but that's one big time faux pas!

I understand why Michelle might look tired in these photos, as would anyone who traveled across the Atlantic with kids in tow and hit the ground running. We did the same thing (landed in Paris at noon and kept going all day and long into the night). It was just too exciting to be there!

When we go next month we are going to check out La Fontaine Du Mars, the restaurant the O's dined in last night. It's right around the corner from our hotel! We prefer the smaller places off the beaten path, too. They chose well to dine in the 7th - it's a nice quiet neighborhood. The locals are used to celebrities and govt. officials as well.

Glad Mrs. O's mom is with them. That gives the O's some time to have a dinner date. Lovely!

Does anyone have a picture of what she wore to dinner last night?

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 6:55 PM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

Are BeeGee & MJMR the same person?

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 7:34 PM | Unregistered CommenterCamille

BeeGee is BeeGee and no one else.

What is wrong with my comment "Pricey but nicey!" Does no one here have a sense of humor? Just see the pricey but not the nicey?

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 8:01 PM | Unregistered CommenterBeeGee

Wow, some of these comments sound disconnected, insulting and frankly a little too self-important. A few of you should try being more aware of the world around us.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:07 PM | Unregistered CommenterBianca

Leah D maybe some chamomile tea and a good natural calcium supplement at night will help?

I too do not watch Lou Dobbs heaven forbid and I've heard some positive things about Shephard Smith but unfortunately he's on a dangerously ruthless propaganda network that pushes so many dishonest and dangerous anti Obama sentiments designed to whip the crazies into a frenzy as they reach for their guns.

I agree about the 3 guys you list and really, MSNBC must scrap those god awful prison shows!

Take care and do get some sleep ok?

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:30 PM | Unregistered CommenterEleroy

Lilly O, "a tad underdressed" is so much respectful and less crass than the "innappropriate" you usually use to describe Mrs Obama's sleevess appearances.

Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterEleroy

I don't think Mrs O´s scarf is the same one shown in detail. fortunately Mrs O's lacks the fringe... the nice print the same and the colors are beautiful to enhance her outfit. I loved her matching purple watch! what a touch of color! would it be a Swatch?

Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 11:01 AM | Unregistered CommenterC Terra

Craig is not in this picture. I believe that both daughters have natural hair and no weaves. Michelle's hair does not look good in this style. I don't really care for her outfit either. I wish she would pay as much attention to her casual looks as she does to her more formal looks. I hope the first family has a wonderful time in Paris and that they return to the U.S. very soon and well rested.

Monday, June 8, 2009 at 3:02 AM | Unregistered CommenterRuth Leslie

Hmm. Well I don't know what happened with the Queen/invite/non-invite situation and I'm certainly not listening to any journalists opinion on it. It'll all come out in the end. It may be that she was invited and couldn't go for some reason and sent Charles instead. We'll see.

It does seem sad though, that Canada and the UK weren't slightly more to the top of the publicity given their large contribution to the success of D-Day.

Anywho. Tis done, and we can't go back over it.

Mrs O and the girls look delighted to be in Paris - indeed, who wouldn't be?! - and I hope they are having an amazing time. It's lovely that Mrs Robinson is also along for the trip and one of Mrs O's nieces. I ove the way that at every opportunity, the O's bring along family. It's very sharing and inclusive, as indeed we have come to expect.

(Craig Robinson? Is taller and FAR better looking than the guy on the right of the photo! Come on now Leah D, get your eye candy monitor working more efficiently!!! [No offense Shorter Guy.])

Love the casual outfit on Mrs O - a great run around ensemble for a day out with the children. Nice muted colours, comfy, good to go. The white dress and coat looks absolutely stunning. Can't fault the styling of that outfit one jot. The belt and shoes are perfect, the earrings discreet to allow the boldness of the outfit full reign. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy looks very lovely too - shame it was cool enough to need a coat. Sarah Brown looked like she was going to a business meeting. Also she was fine from the waist up, but seems insistent on wearing clothes that do not fit her derriere, and therefore accentuate this as much as possible. Sarah, the cameras do not "forget" your behind just because you do. Please wear clothes that FIT. Drives me NUTS.

PARISIAN CHIC LOOK? I must say there's very little Parisian chic in Mrs O's look. Even French magazine 'Purepeople' described it as "a chic chignon but her decontracte style with the trousers and sneakers is definitely badly chosen".

I wonder what's the idea that Americans have of European fashion?

"Très chic avec son chignon haut, la femme la plus regardée du monde, dont on admire l'audace en matière de style vestimentaire, n'a pourtant pas brillé avec sa tenue décontractée dont le pantalon et les baskets, selon nous, étaient plutôt mal choisis."

Monday, June 8, 2009 at 6:50 AM | Unregistered CommenterChar

You're right, Char. A Parisian mother of means would not have dressed like this. She would have worn a perfect blazer, and well cut trousers or jeans, with a low-heeled loafer (NOT high heels; you are going up in the Eiffel Tower, after all.) If a jacket was needed, she would have put a short raincoat over it. The only thing "French" about Michelle's outfit was the scarf, because everyone in Paris wears scarves.

But Michelle is not French, she is American, and from Chicago, and she obviously loves those sneakers. This gave her an excuse to wear them again. More power to her.

Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:54 AM | Unregistered Commenterbrenda

The t-shirt Malia is wearing in the photo is from Target. It's only $12.99 and they have it in stores now....I got mine! Better get yours fast before they sell out like everything else the Obama ladies wear!!

Also, later in the France/UK trip, Malia wears another t-shirt from Target from the same collection of tees. Of course, I bought one of those too!!! Same drill - $12.99 and they have them in Target stores.

Enjoy!
