First Puppy O?

Photo by George Hawkins / Creative Commons
Politico reports that a dog was spotted at the White House this weekend. Could it be the long awaited First Puppy O? (We know this isn't Mrs. O fashion and style as usual, but we're partial to a cute pup.) P.S. This is not the actual pup. Just a very darling one.

omg!! now that the trip is over, this is what im going to look foward to!!!
simply cannot wait (I say they name it Hope!) lol
any other name suggestions?
And what is that dog WEARING on his neck?? It looks like an understated stylish leather collar with silvertone accents, and some statement charms.
Is this the actual pic of the puppy? Too cute!! :p
Actually, in one of the video clips of Mrs. O on her trip to the G20 with Mr. O, I distinctly heard her telling someone (I don't recall who) that she was "peeling off early" when Barack went to Turkey (which is true, she is coming back to DC before him), and that next week, they were "getting the dog." Squee!
I believe it was the interview on Jay Leno's show when President Obama indicated the puppy would "be there" when he returns from the G20 Summit. Politico's report aligns with that planned timeline. How fun that the First Family will welcome their new puppy during Spring break.
The puppy in the pic is a Golden Retriever. I don't think the Obamas will be getting a Golden, as they shed a lot, and I know Malia is allergic. I have a Golden and they are marvelous family dogs. I wonder if the Obamas are still leaning toward the Goldendoodle (cross between a Golden and a poodle), as the doodles seem to be almost allergy free.
Can't wait to find out if the First Puppy will be waiting in the WH when the President returns!!!
I hope they eventually get two, one for each of their girls, but one is a great start. I think the name Star would be good, cause he has been so eagerly awaited.
I can't imagine after all of their care and planning the dog would arrive early, and without the first couple. They said later in April, after the trip/vacation/spring break.
The dog may belong to someone else.
I think that's a golden retriever, as another poster said--and if I recall correctly, Biden has a golden retriever puppy named "Champ."
I read several weeks ago that the Obamas will be adopting a Portuguese waterdog and they hope they will be able to adopt it from a shelter. I, too, hope they will adopt from a shelter.
My dog showed up one day as a stray five years ago, so I didn't have the problem of deciding on going to the shelter or not.
As far as the Obamas, there was a veterinarian on TV not long ago that said that in his opinion the Obamas would be better to NOT get a shelter dog. For two reasons: they wouldn't have to retrain any bad behaviors and also because the type of non-allergenic breed is hard to find in a shelter.
In my opinion, I think if the girls end up getting a non-shelter dog then America should not make a fuss about it. It will be Sasha and Malia's first dog and the event should not be surrounded by controversy.
My little mixed mutts name is Stinky which translates to PUZZO in Italian - he is bilingual

who does his hair ... mouse .. hello!
Layo-G The trip isn't over they still have to do Turkey!!
That's one determined stare from a cute ball of fur.
According to President Mr. O with Jay Leno, the dog will be in place soon after their return from Europe. This according to the interview. So we really have much to which we can look forward! I wouldn't expect a full blown puppy though as they were reportedly going to go through a rescue group. Kudos to them!
Cute puppy, but probably not the first dog. He or she's supposed to be a Portuguese Water Dog. I hope we'll get to see the first puppy soon, though.
I can't wait for the first puppy, they should name him Patient for we all have been more than patient for his/her arrival.
allison and merri, both your comments made me laugh. Thanks!
Fantastic blog! This is my first time here. I wanted to let you know I am tracking all the First Puppy news over at my blog, The Obama Dog Blog. I think we might meet him (a male Portie puppy) tomorrow. Here is the link...

cheers :)
Moira,
I looked at your blog.
The President is expected to be at the White House around 3am according to Politico's updated schedule. So, we probably won't see the new dog for a day or two at least.
Thanks, Leah. Yes, they came home very late. Now, there are reports from Mrs. Obama's press secretary, the stylish Katie McCormick Lelyveld, that the First Dog will definitely not debut this week.
BUT...
...I am hearing unofficial Tweets that he will make an appearance sooner than later!
Here's my latest post...

I was so proud of our First Lady. She has poise and style that could teach a lot of people how to look everyday. She's not over the top, she's for regular people like me. I can definitely feel comfortable in the clothes she wears.
OK - Brace yourselves...We may have a Kennedy in the White House again! I suspect that Cappy Kennedy, Ted Kennedy's newest Portie pup, will be the Obamas' new dog. View my reasoning and the rumors in the Portie community here...
