THank you, Mrs. T
Can we get the pic posted as well?
She looks awesome, but I missed seeing Barack walking with her. Guess I have gotten used to that grand couple entrance.

She is and looks freaking FANTASTIC!

She is setting the bar sky high for all other first ladies!
Michelle Obama 2016!! I am not kidding!

The brown dress has such a flattering neckline. I like her choice of pearlescent nail polish to go with the jewelry.

For the those who are foodies who want to follow the Obamas' food chronicles as well, this blog has some interesting info:

This is her day. She is so hitting her stride.

I thought her remarks were wonderful. She is so supportive of others--which, seems to me, should be a prime role for first ladies. Frankly, I could care less about her fashion statements. It's the woman who impresses me.

Mrs. O looks so beautiful and radiant. This one classy First Lady. It is so nice to see the White House open to the people it belongs to. Thank You! Barack and Michelle.
I'm so proud of her having so much love for her Mother and in stilling that same love in her daughters. Also trying to show the young people of this country that all we need is love, love, love, Love is what we need now from everyone.

Good list, Lilly!

That dress really is a stunner - so simple, classic, and sexy.

This event struck me as inspirational and a great finish to a day with a huge agenda and very defined purpose. In her morning greet to the participating women of achievement, Michelle suggested that this type of gathering could be a regular happening. That would be terrific for the DC community.

I'd have preferred a jewel-toned dress, but this one nevertheless is nice. Makeup and hair also look nice. Nice speech too. She isn't sleeveless, but the off-the-shoulders look may stir up some controversy though.

Bevi-
Thank you for posting the Obama foodie link - I've bookmarked.

I am so looking forward to seeing the Obama Family starting the veggie garden tomorrow! It's time here in Texas to put in the garden - I have tomato, cucumber, zucchini, beans, rosemary, and basil plants here on my patio waiting to be planted this weekend. My lemon trees, orange, and grapefruit trees have blossoms already! I doubt that the Obama's will do too much planting tomorrow because of the weather up there in D.C., but I hope we get to see Michelle in the garden in a pair of Crocs and a pair of whimsical gardening gloves. I did read that they have started all of the seeds in White House greenhouse that is on the top floor of the residence, so I think that the plan for the garden has been in the works for awhile.

Well--- overall look - just perfect! Hope we do not scrutinize this very classy look too much. It is just a grand look; great moment. Let's enjoy this, please!

i love her so much...*prays for her, our president, and this wonderful country that would elect these people*

oh on the fashion tip....... i forgot to say how fab she looks. that full length pic of her is stunning.

Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 10:14 PM | Unregistered Commentertoi22

MJMR - I couldn't agree more. To find fault in her look and this event is to be truly a hater.

The Obamas cannot do everything with a mind to every possible angle someone with ill intentions may spin them.

Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 10:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterIVA

Obama said on the Leno show that being president is like being on American Idol and everyone is Simon Cowell. LOL

I would vote that today was Michelle's best one-two fashion punch. Adore tonight's dress, totally covet.

I, too, like your list, Lilly, on Michelle Obama's attire for today and this evening. It's a good list. Michelle Obama's remarks were wonderful as well. (I especially liked her warm and honest talk with the class of high school students.)

And I DO care about Michelle Obama's fashion statements very much...she IS the First Lady of our country.

Words cannot express my admiration and respect for Michele Obama. what a classy first lady. She moves and inspires me in a way that no other person can't. I am proud and honored to have her as our first lady! More power to you Michele.

she looks beautiful, the color is wonderful on her.

Michelle should train President Obama how to make a speech without a teleprompter. She is a better speaker than him by any standards. People are calling President, "teleprompt president", and that's is becoming a joke:

I think her look is totally appropriate for her figure, style and taste but most importantly to the occasion.
She has great shoulders and the dress looked perfectly cut to fit - this is why she looks fabulous. Even though she chooses 'regular ready to wear' pieces I thought I read somewhere that she has them custom altered to fit. It's the fit that counts!

Tonight's look was pure understated chic. Sleek and simple - modern.
Her words sincere, heartfelt and inspiring - what a combo.
This woman has true style.

On another topic, here is a link to a story about the new south lawn organic vegetable garden that is about to be planted:

She looks absolutely divine!

Friday, March 20, 2009 at 3:57 AM | Unregistered CommenterAudrey

Could the dress be a Donna Karan...?!

Friday, March 20, 2009 at 3:59 AM | Unregistered CommenterAudrey

Beautiful!! This dress is wonderful! I will be trolling daylife dot com now to see if I can find picutes of her and her mother or the children. I love that they let the girls invite friends to this! What a wonderful event. Oh to be a HS student in DC. I would certainly be stepping up my game just for the hopes of getting an invite to the WH!

Friday, March 20, 2009 at 8:19 AM | Unregistered CommenterBrook

Absolutely love the dress. That color is just amazing on her, and she accessorized perfectly with those pearls. A brooch would also be great on this dress.

I hope we see more off-the-shoulder looks like this from her. It's completely elegant -- and I wouldn't have guessed that, given her posture at times in the past. But here she looks just perfect; standing tall, strong and proud. Absolutely a winning look!

A class act!

Thanks for the clip - Mrs O is SO awesome, and that's not taking into account how she looks (agree with everyone - class act). Yes, she seems to be hitting her stride as FLOTUS (-: (or she's always been like this & we're just beginning to see more of it!)

Whoever is the next first lady in 2016, she is going to have to fill some very large shoes. Michelle has without a doubt raised the bar for first ladies. She's beautiful, stylish, can anyone say intelligent, her speeches are flawless. But most importantly she's an inspiration. I've found myself diggin out my late mother's pearls that I haven't worn in years, I've found myself back down the gym in the evenings instead of wathcing t.v. I love her, she's amazing.

Agreed Bee. I'm back at Weight Watchers, doing exercise again, taking care of my appearance for the first time in a while. I was getting a bit down and the more I listen to Michelle I feel I can do more for myself and others.

The dress for this event is perfect, I just love it. Very chic and elegant.

I love it. The off the shoulder look says she won't let herself be defined by other people's expectations. They can't handle her gorgeous arms, let's see how they handle those amazing shoulders.

You go Michelle! Kill them with your confidence and class!
