I just found a few pictures of the event.

She looks lovely in green and HALLELUJAH that she's being so adventurous with her hair lately. This is more different hair styles in just one week than we have seen in probably a few months. Plus, I like the subtle waves.
(ps. I hope this won't start a new round of sleeveless-dress bashing! Her outfit is perfectly appropriate.)
She looks hot. Loving the hair! Very Marilyn Monroe-ish. This is a style I've always thought would look great because of her facial shape and length of her hair. Very alluring. And is there a bright color this woman doesn't look good in?!

The dress shown on the mannequin has sleeves. I see Michelle declined the sleeves again. ***SMDH***
I'm a fan of Tracy Reese, so I'm partial but I think I would have liked it better with the cap sleeves as show in the picture. The color, though, is great on Mrs. O and of course she really can pull off almost anything because she has self confidence that just oozes!
@ DeeI agree. I think the cap sleeves would have been more interesting.
Wow! Mrs. O looks better and better. She looked really pretty at the Stevie Wonder event.
she looks fabulous in that green dress! the hair is so fun and flirty, and the color is beautiful on her.
Well thats odd - what happened to the charming cap sleeves on the version Mrs O is donning in the cover photo?
The moment I saw the dress w/ the sleeves I thought - Thats It ! It seemed like something was missing on the Mrs O dress and I was correct.
I wonder why she had the dress altered ?
Has the hem also been altered ? I don't see the scalloped edges on the People dress either. Hmmmm.
Its a nice dress altered, but a great dress in the original design.
Whats the story here ?
Here is a link to a pro-no-sleeve article : http://allday.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/02/25/1808531.aspx
Like the shape of the dress and like it on the mannequin. The shininess of the fabric and the shade of pink on the dress the lady herself is wearing, makes it look cheap; not great quality. Which I'm certain is not the case.
It looks like she just tucked the "cap sleeves" into the dress. I have a feeling it may have looked more like a capelet on her, given that they're not real cap sleeves.
I think the pink Tracy Reese dress looks better without the cap sleeves. Mrs. Obama made a good choice to nix the sleeves.
someone on another blog picked this up, and i totally agree, I think im going to like everything about this spread A LOT MORE than the vogue issue she did (while the vogue was not totally bad, it certainly did not live up to the expectation of months of anticipation, including the lackluster cover shot, although Mrs. O looked great, i blamed the photographer)
but this cover on the other hand looks, FRESH, yet still sophisticated for the post of first lady, and the inside shots shown in the clip above looks GREAT!!
who would have though people could upstage Vogue!
I prefer this picture than the vogue one. I did not the vogue s picture because mrs o in foreground . I don't know why these photographs focus so much in Mrs o arm.
she was right to nix the cap sleeves, it would not have been flattering on her and when I think of cap sleeves I think of someone in their 20's the dress would look to young with the sleeves.
not by favorite dress but she is right on trend
and I agree this cover is much better than the vogue cover. she looks more natural
Claire: Thank you so much for sharing the picture of Mrs Kennedy in the sleeveless dress at the State of the Union speech in Congress eons ago...
There's been much silly chatter about "decorum" and "innappropriate" in describing Mrs O and her choice of a sleeveless dress for the presidents speech to Congress...
The "vindication" is very much appreciated!
The sleeveless debate does baffle me. In my view, it's as out of date as saying a woman shouldn't wear trousers to the office. And to complain about sleeveless being inappropriate in an era when women regularly turn up to their weddings - a religious ceremony - in a strapless dress! If she's warm enough, she's warm enough, if she isn't, we can all play Spot The Cardigan. Nuff said I feel. I mean, I really hope we're not going to spend four years talking about "oh my goodness a sleeveless dress to a MEETING?" "well it was a very professional sleeveless dress..." And Jackie O was doing sleeveless was she???! Hehehehe.
ANYway! I love the cut of this pink dress but I personally loathe that shade of pink and I'm also not fond of guipure. Never have been. So it's a bit of a "bleugh" for me, but, on the other hand of course, she look ridiculously good in it! Love the hair, love the photos. She looks fabulous.
Just back from walking the dog and I have to say, I'm mildly miffed that Mrs O looks that good in a colour and fabric I hate!!!!
Posh Tater...you're so funny but spot on!
I too normally loathe guipure, and pink is a color I could never embrace not even in a lightweight cashmere scarf...
But you're right! For some reason this look works for Mrs. O and she does pull it off! It's streamlined and clean and surprisingly doesn't look frou frouish or "frilly"...Which is almost always synonymous with lacey dresses. I suspect that taking the cap sleeves off or tucked away helped keep the look clean and less "frilly".
Oh Mrs.O, enough already! Okay I'm with you guys on the lace - it's not my favourite either! But,she sure looks good. That said, I noticed in a recent "O" magazine(that's unintentional - I swear!)and "Vogue" I realize that lace is making a comeback! And I'm kinda liking it, sort of... So, the fact that Michelle Obama chose to wear this for the cover of PEOPLE magazine proves to me how "au courant" she is, and I appreciate the fact that she's also a risk taker! Hats off to FLOTUS, I think like her husband and his speeches, she is getting better and better and I'm enjoying every minute of it! This is going to be an interesting 4yrs...
I loved the People article, but I especially love Mrs O's watch. Any hints on the maker?
