Merry Christmas

Image by Hugh Gentry / Reuters

The president and first lady made an appearance at a Marine Corps Base in Hawaii today, where they spent the afternoon with 100 Marines, military members and their families. Mrs. O wore a white cotton silk sundress by Narciso Rodriguez (last seen in Rome), accessorized with hoop earrings and bangles.

Merry Christmas Mrs-O.org readers!

Thats such a powerful statement. Just when I needed a lift.
Thanks soooo much, I'm not going to forget it.

If I get the position you'll be the President. (smile) let me know if you
read this comment. This is my life, this is what I enjoy. My family
is every single race you can imagine. Yes I've heard the hear
comments growing up, but it's wrong all wrong. I've heard the
good hair, bad hear statements.

PLEASE, PLEASE, in your life, and in your
heart, get over it NOW, don't let 2010 catch you talking about hair.
and kids shouldn't hear this stuff, what should be emphazied is BRAIN POWER,
I mean, have we learned anything from this site. eh?

Where I live the movie good hair is not available, but I would like to
see it. I bought a fabulous wig last night, the spiral look and BABY
I knocked off 20 yrs of my age. I "ama goine" to swing my life away
on New Years eve. (smile) Rushing out but will read more comments later.

Thanks to the person who posted the shot from the back. Much better look because the front of the dress is a mess -- that waistline is just odd and ill-fitting. I do like the neckline, though. A simple scoop.

Michelle is not a little person and I thought the white dress was too cutsey for a person her size.

Only her hairdresser knows for sure...and they (Rahni or Johnny) don't even agree.

Could be, that at the time they both made their declarative statements, they were both correct but since then, not a single one of us knows for sure what may have changed when it comes to her hair. What continues to amaze me is why we all can't seem to accept the fact that Michelle has many options and choices availble to her (up or down, relax or flat iron, chemical or no-lye) and they are just that...her personal choices. It doesn't really much matter what we individually think about HER choices....unless you feel for some reason that she is not entitled to them.

Give yourself a break (no hair damage pun intended) and don't forget to tune into the Kennedy Center Honors broadcast tonight on CBS. I am looking forward to the treat of seeing the honorees, as well as another opportunity to feast on that amazing Peter Soronen gown and the fabulous Binns necklace that Mrs. O wore. As they say, consult your local listings for your time zone and enjoy!

Dear All,

Just re-reading the comments on this thread. I would ask that we please avoid analyzing the Obama girls in any way. That has been my personal policy to date. Thanks for your understanding.

Euch. As requested by Mrs O I'm ignoring the snide comments. Really, you people have nothing better to do with your time?! Very sad.

Mrs O looks gorgeous in this beautiful dress. Simple, pretty, absolutely chic AND casual. God how we all yearn for a dress like that for hot weather. It's so easy to look like a wet paper bag in hot weather, but mrs Obama looks fresh and smart. The length is of course wonderful on her fabulous legs, and as we all know, the out of date rules about certain lengths meaning a certain type of appropriate are thankfully, dead and gone. Thanks to women like Mrs Obama, who dresses so well for her role, the rules which exist for women who DON'T know how to dress imaginatively on their own are now irrelevant. Yeeha!

And, excuse me, HOW many of the above posters spend their Christmas afternoon helping someone else???? Nope, me neither. I waited till Monday,

It's amazing how some seemingly "ordinary" outfit will bring on a storm of heated exchanges back and forth. In this case it became centered on the hair as well as the dress. I think it has now become an unwritten guideline that we don't make negative comments about Mrs. Obama's body parts, and her hair IS a body part. So if we like her hairstyle or like her toned arms it's fine to say so but stop at that. Also there seemed to be such a backlash at people who didn't care for this dress or it's appropriateness. Maybe we should try to take a deep breath, count to 10, and blow off those comments that offend us. Otherwise people are going to be scared stiff to make an honest comment on the negative side of ANYthing.

Mrs. T has written guidelines for the Obama girls and so we know our boundaries on that front.

In terms of the backlash towards negative comments, it is possible to be critical without being snarky, abrasive, and rude. I think the backlash comes from having to deal with those tones, not the content itself.

Wishing it was warm enough for me to wear a knee length, sleeveless dress {sigh}.
