Hello Hawaii

Image by Larry Downing / Reuters Pictures
... and several hours later the Os landed in Honolulu, transported from the winter wonderland of Washington, D.C. to the tropical climate of Hawaii. Accordingly, they also changed clothes, debuting resort wear as they exited the airplane.
Mrs. O wore an azure blue, empire waist dress with slight cap sleeves. The dress features subtle shirring detail through the waist and shoulders. A customary floral lei completed the look, serving as the perfect statement accessory.

Welcome & a big Mele Kalikimaka to the Obamas
Michelle looks great and happy...Merry Christmas everyone :)
I hope they are able to have a peaceful vacation, enjoy some shave ice and take some quiet walks on the beach without the paparazzi. He looks rested already, she is relaxed and herself and the kids are enjoying the moment. I read somewhere that HI has very strict animal quarantine laws - 120 days - so Bo had to be left back in DC. I hope he got his presents before they left!
Wow! Very nice!
I love both the departure and the arrival outfits. In addition to dressing for the two very different climates, the outfits also seem to symbolically say; we have shed our heavy cloaks and for the next few days our family will relax and welcome the sunshine, along with the renewal of hope it brings with each new day, with wide open arms.
To the entire Obama Family,
Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hau'oli Makahiki Hou
Hold on to those loving smiles on all of your faces and enjoy your holiday to the fullest!
I love tat dress, she wears it well (love the color)
They all look so beautiful, coming and going. I hope they are able to experience the best and deepest relaxation together. Time to reflect, rejoice and renew!
Merry Christmas to Mrs. T and everyone! Thank you for bringing such astonishing beauty into our lives!

What do you think?
This is the perfect outfit for a First Lady on vacation IMHO--pretty details, feminine yet casual and no doubt quite comfortable. I'm calling the color Play-Doh blue! Photos on Huffington Post show an armful of bracelets in white and blue tones and--hurray!--Michelle is wearing her silver flats again! Simple yet lovely.
I'm hoping we'll see the sleeveless shift she wore in Miami paired with a cardigan from J. Crew when she met with military families. Did anyone every come up with the designer of that dress?
@ Granny Jan
Cathy Horyn completely misses the point, fashion writers do at times. Michelle Obama is the First Lady. Sarah Palin is not. They are both different women so a comparison of similarities is just plan, well......What's the point, besides I like Mrs.O's style even if I can't afford any of it. I can't afford the stuff the Mrs. Palin bought from Neiman Marcus either!
The only photo that shows her shoes.

How thrilling they get to soak up the wonderful Hawaii sun and spirit...Desperately needed renewal and rejuvenation for both the President and First Lady...
Away from all the madness, the endless chipping away and the ridiculous and mindless attempts to diminish, destroy and de-legitimize this brilliant and dignified man and his fantastic wife...
Cathy Horyn's silly, petty and transparently questionable piece continues in this vein...
The need to bring the President and First Lady down several pegs seems to be a favorite pastime these days for every inconsequential malcontent with a medium/audience;
These amusing attempts lately by several in the media to elevate Sarah Palin - first by trying to match her up against President Obama and now Mrs Obama is so desperate, laughable, cheap and pathetic-
(Ms Palin can draw a crowd of a thousand or so to a mall book signing, but so can Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber, Paris Hilton...)
Inciting, actively dividing, deliberately misinforming & exploiting a marginal segment of society so petrified that theirs is a fast disappearing breed, is contemptible to say the very least...And to pretend straight-faced that Sarah Palin has done anything other than this is hugely fallacious-
One suspects that the purveyors of these farcical 'compare Ms. Palin to the Obama's at every opportunity' push subscribe to it mostly because they hope it degrades, insults, offends and somehow diminishes the Obama's-
A sadly comical and transparent ploy clearly by a smarting few with hurt feelings who for mostly indiscernible reasons feel slighted, overlooked and not quite as embraced by the Obama's as they might have liked and who now push full on with their various petty and inconsequential bones to pick...and by any means or avenue necessary-
By propping up this hatemongering and decidedly unconscionable woman in a bid to spite the Obama's however, they not only do the American citizenry a huge disservice but put this great but extremely fragile nation at much risk -
But still they do many of us a huge favor...
With their short-sightedness & pettiness they put what's left of their long tattered 'reputations' and 'credibility' as 'serious journalists' in the shredder;
We see most of them now for what and who they really are...!
And it has all been quite a revelation, an education and uber eye-opening...and for that alone many of us are truly grateful...
@Granny Jan, what do I think? I think those sour grapes must still be smarting in Cathy Horyn's mouth. She's the one who had a laundry list of designers that she felt our Michelle MUST wear to be a successful first lady. Sarah Palin vs Michelle Obama........GIVE ME A BREAK!!
@ Audrey - You've summed up exactly what so many of us have felt for some time. Conservatives' attempts to elevate Sarah Palin's stature certainly is comical, but the disturbing fact is there are many who believe this fiction. These are the same people who say Katie Couric used trick questions and was out to get her during the now infamous interview.
As part of my New Year's resolutions I'll resolve to be more like our First Lady...graceful in the eye of turmoil, gracious to all, strong without being overbearing and respectful, even to gammoners.
Audrey, I enjoyed your comprehensive post and I couldn't agree more. I can never understand how some people feel a need to drag an innocent person down in order to elevate someone else. The election is over. The best man won. Lets move forward and dispense with the nasty bickering.
Having said that, all this hatemongering only serves to put the First Lady in a positive light even more. The more they hate, the more love Michelle gets. The woman is unstoppable. She hasn't put a foot out of place and the haters know it, they just refuse to accept it.
The Obamas will finally have some great family time -
far from the maddening crowd. Well deserved. Lord we pray
for them. Watch over them. Wish I could be on a beach myself.
I love Malia's hair braided - has a curly effect - good job
hairdresser. My favourite so far. They're ready for the tropical
breezes, Mrs. O looks beautiful in that blue dress, like she's going
on a date with The President. Sweet. ALOHA HAWAII. (SMILE).
Are we sure that's a flora lei? I think the FLOTUS is wearing a Niihau Shell Leii. They're gorgeous and pretty pricey. I wanted one when I visited Hawaii in November, but alas, it was too expensive for me. They sure are beautiful, though. Whatever it is, she looks great in it.

Beautiful family!!! Thank you Audrey, very well said. Didn't even bother to click on the link or read the Horyn write-up. Stopped watching T.V and no longer read any negative or Obama bashing articles. I've completely shut them all out, and boy am I glad.
God bless and protect our spectacular President and his beautiful family!!!
I HOPE THE FIRST FAMILY IS ABLE TO GET SOME REST EVEN WITH ALL THE WORLD PROBLEMS
THE PRESIDENT HAS TO DEAL WITH EVERDAY. EVEN WHILE HE IS ON VACATION.
PS I HOPE EVERY ONE HAS A MERRY CHRISTMAN
@Tammi. It's definitely floral -- it's a four strand pikake (jasmine) lei. Very fragrant and very elegant. Niihau shells would be much tinier -- about half to a third the size of a pikake bud. Hope the family has a lovely and relaxing time!
Beautiful dress. Love that they look so happy and relaxed going into Christmas.
