Happy Hanukkah

Official White House Photo by Samantha Appleton
The president and first lady celebrated Hanukkah at the White House last night. For the event, Mrs. O wore a deep purple suit with black beading at the collar.
For more on the event, check out the report from Politics Daily, here. Thank you to those who pointed us to a second photo that shows more detail of Mrs. O's suit:

Kind of expected it to be a purple because the president's tie looked purplish in the interview with Charlie Gibson aired on ABC yesterday. They seem to coordinate in the morning when they will be seen together to either match or at least complement each other..
I love these people! She looks great!
Very appropriate and feminine. I like this suit a lot (from what I can see of it). December has been a great month for her!
And I know it's kind of corny that they tend to match when they have events together, but I find it thoroughly endearing anyway.
I hope someone can find a better picture--it is hard to see the details
Couldn't agree with you more IVA. There's always a slight risk of "Sad Club" but somehow, they pull it out of the hat and make it cool.
Love this beading. So utterly festive and glossy. Numnumnum.
I just found the cutest picture of First Dog Bo apparently driving a police Car...this was after Mrs O delivered gifts to Quantico.

can't wait for more details. <3 purple.
Lovely suit. I wish I could see the details better though.
I would opt for sof color for this event.
The purple looks really nice on her.
Nice suit but I would really like to see a close up. Plum colours never look good on me but it seems to suit Michelle to a tee.
This dark purple color is very popular this season and FLOTUS wears color like nobody's business. I especially like the neckline of the jacket. I saw a picture on another website and it looks like dupioni silk. This is sharp.
i am very loyal this website, however, very disappointed in the coverage of the hanukah party at the white house the photo is impossible to see and there is no commentary why is that?
C-i-D,
You slippin, honey. If you found a better pic, you know you supposed to link it. LOL!!
But for real, if the pic is better can you please link it. Thanx ;-)
Dear Peggy, Just to clarify, I've featured the only photo published, and even viewed as "Original" format on Flickr, it is very hard to see. The reason for the shorter post is that there have been few details on the dinner published. I appreciate your understanding. Thank you!
@Nyon, I'm almost sure that it was this picture, only at a slightly different angle because you could see all of the top half of FLOTUS' suit. I'm not really computer savvy but it is my New Years Resolution to master that linking up "here" thing that everyone does so well. I'm still searching where I went today on line, as soon as I spot it, I'll report back. You know I got your back! lol
Thanks! I have only been able to hot link a pic once. Now everytime I try to do it, it never works. So, I went back to old faithful, cut and paste, LOL!!
There is a pretty good photo of Mrs. O's suit on the White House blog site (scroll down quite a bit): http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/
@Nyon,
Glad to hear you say your hot link to a pic only worked once. Not because misery loves company, but because I have never been able to do it ,despite the excellent instructions from members on this site, and some I've even found on my own at other sites. I'm fairly proficient when it comes to finding my way around a computer but for some reason I can't seem to get this to work. So I'm with you...I guess we'll be sisters stuck in cut & paste land....LOL!
I love that Mrs. O has stayed away from the red Christmas look which is almost as bad as those
Christmas sweaters with the trees, snowmen, etc. Just because we put Christmas red bows on our wreaths doesn't mean that we have to wear it every day from Dec. 1 on!!! LOL
Here is another view of the Hanukkah dress. The mother is either keeping the kids from acting out or thinks our Mrs O is going to devour them . LOL.. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2009/12/16/spirit-alone
Wow! Now THAT's a suit! Absolutely gorgeous and a beautiful, beautiful color.
LOL! @ Asereht
Thanks for the link Pat and Anagrom.
I am slow because I didn't even see that Mrs. T added the pic.
Anyway, of course I love this suit because it is purple, but I also like the bead detailing.
really great suit.
I love the way Mrs. O is pulling out her jewel tones for the holidays. Very festive and colorful.
I have a silk blouse this exact shade of plum - always get compliments on it. The FLOTUS looks great.
NICE SUITE MRSO IS WEARRING VERY NICE TO BAD THERE KIDS WAS NOT THERE TO JOIN THEM.THIS DAUS ITS LOOKED LIKE THE OBAMAS DONT SHOW THERE KIDS SO MURCH MAYBE BECCOUSE THEY HAVE SCHOOL.
GORGEOUS SUIT...my favorite color, too (on her and on me!)
It just occurred to me: there is no post on Mrs. O's day outside with the girls after the first snow (or is there? I did look back about 4 page entries). There should be one! :)
Mrs. T, Thanks again for this blog.
Mrs. O looks great in her suit, very warm smile. Top picture, Mr. President
so relaxed, caring, committed couple, this glow comes from their compassion
to work with people, and do everything in their power to accomplish what they
set out to do. Yes we can. The year, brings no greater pleasure than to say
lets all give them a huge round of applause. I'm rushing out a lot these days and
I miss my fellow blogers - will make my comments about the suit tomorrow.
does anyone know the desiner of the chanukah suit is?
N Y O N - DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN SEE A BETTER PIC IN HER SUIT?? THANKS
