A Vision in Gold

Images by REUTERS/Scanpix Norway and Daniel Sannum Lauten/Getty Images

At the Royal Castle in Oslo, Norway, just before the president will accept the Nobel Peace Prize, the first lady is an absolute vision in gold. Mrs. O paired her vibrant chartreuse dress and coat with a soft yellow cardigan by Nina Ricci. The same cardigan was also worn for the inauguration.

Update: Mrs. O wears a Calvin Klein Collection dress and coat. The sulfite laser cut velvet dress and jacket are from the Fall 2009 Calvin Klein Collection designed by Francisco Costa, the Women's Creative Director.

Loved the draped gray Lanvin dress! So beautiful, classic, and a great cut that fit perfectly. Wish I could say the same about the gold dress. However, it could have been improved by losing the cardigan and two of the brooches. There is no way a cardigan should be worn with such a flashy dress, and one brooch on the dress itself would have been more than adequate.

I looked this up on the Calvin Klein Ready to Wear Fall 2009 site. There's no way to spin it - the material photographed loud and flashy.

Does anybody knows anything about the necklace FLOTUS was wearing with her golden ensemble ?

I'm prepared for the usual flack...but, IMHO, the fabric and color was all wrong for a daytime event, just like the Inauguration outfit. It was just totally out of place..and photographed terribly.

The other outfits for the trip were wonderful. My one concern was that the ice blue gown was too long just like the white Jason Wu that Mrs. Obama constantly tripped upon during the I. Balls.

My advice remains the same: photograph outfits in still and video before wearing...and do not wear shiny fabrics before 6 PM. And get rid of Ikram.

I comment because I love Mrs. O and only want the best for her. She cannot afford "misses" for important occasions.

Agree with you Eleroy, they do crawl out in droves don't they? Mrs Obama looks beautiful as always and it is evident that there is much thought andsignificance to her entire wardrobe pick for this glorious occasion.

By the way, there is an earlier post by an unregistered "Camille" - that's not me obviously. As a rule I NEVER dissect another persons choice of clothing - I could never presume to know what informs something so personal and subjective as ones wardrobe choices. But most importantly, Mrs Obama can do no wrong in my opinion. She ALWAYS rocks!

Rock on Mrs O, rock on!!!!!

Love the coat and dress. She looks stunning. Calvin Klein knows sophistication. My sister attended the ceremony and said that the photos don't capture the true beauty of the ensemble.

I am not surprised that some American women prefer a more muted style that would diminish the woman (think mid-west styling), we are not really known for our fashion tastes here. Powerful, successful, and wealthy women often wear bold colors, patterns, and elegant fabrics with confidence and need not be encumbered with worries about over shadowing their husbands.

The Golden Dress and Coat are really beautiful. Makes me so proud of this lovely lady! I do wish she hadn't worn the cardigan, though. It may have looked fabulous, but the photo of it looks kind of cheap, even if it IS a Nina Ricci.

I will say here that I'm so sorry her blue ball gown was too long, and she had to hold it up. Looks like her designer could have avoided that.

Does she take a make-up artist and hair-dresser with her everywhere she goes? I suppose so!! She is really becoming very glamorous!!

I'm noticing a pattern where Mrs. Obama wears an appropriate jacket or cover-up then takes it off to expose bare arms or a cardigan underneath. Granted, we all kow she has fabulous shoulders and toned arms. However, there are some occasions where keeping on the jacket is more appropriate such as meeting the Queen of England or when the President is receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. I wonder how the designers feel when the First Lady takes off a couture jacket to throw on a cardigan and partially cover their masterpiece?

Another stunning outfit for Oslo! What a fabulous ensemble! My god velvet's great!! Fab colour, fab design, fab everything. I'm sorry I missed the day itself but I'm so grateful to be able to look over it now.

I'm also thrilled to bits that Mr & Mrs O got to meet Crown Prince Haakon and his wife - they have a lot in common in terms of aims and goals.

And.... I'm sorry, but is anyone else thrilled to BITS that a cardigan that was last seen on a building site is now in Oslo meeting the royal family and attending the Nobel Peace prize ceremony??? That's my kinda wardrobe usage!
