Must See: Isabel Toledo

Today is shaping up to be a treat! The first couple of fashion, Isabel and Ruben Toledo, were in Washington last night to show Isabel Toledo's spring collection at the home of the Swiss Ambassador Urs Ziswiler.
You must check out the video above that accompanies this article from Kiki Ryan of Politico. Ms. Ryan even got the scoop on another Isabel Toledo creation we need to be looking for:
One dress in Obama’s possession is a pleated jersey number with some real swing. "It's very Marilyn Monroe," Toledo said. "It's beautiful, it's got a beautiful flow.”

The jacket is pretty cool. The white detail looks like it was painted on or something. Very Interesting. You can see it good in this pic from getty.

Interesting, but I did not see wearable clothes here. The one sheath with the hem flounce, maybe. But the rest do nothing for a woman's body.
I'm happy for Isabel and her husband. It must be a great feeling when your hard work pays off especially when you are working in a competitive field such as fashion. Michelle's inauguaration outfit was appropriate, beautiful, comfortable and considering the temperature looked warm.
It's a shame we didn't get to see the complete show. Maybe someone else photographed or taped it & it will be online?
I love Isabel & Ruben and am so happy for any success they have. I don't believe the Toledos & Mrs. O have actually met face-to-face yet. Shame she had other commitments and couldn't come to the party because I imagine they would really enjoy each others company.
Remember that what you're seeing a glimpse of in this clip is "runway" and will probably be modified when clothes for sale hit the showroom. You want the "runway" to be a bit "pow!" especially when it's for a party! They're such a small business they don't normally have a runway show because it's too expensive.
Mrs. T, do you know when the panel discussion Robin Givhan is leading with Isabel & Ruben at the Textile Museum is happening and whether it will be filmed & available for viewing online?
Here's link to a wonderful intro to Isabel & Ruben from The New Yorker March 2008:

I have been involved in fashion and high end retailing for decades. I know runway "pow" when I see it. I also recognize clothes that may be interesting to the person who designed them, but are not even flattering to the runway models let alone a normal woman. I cannot imagine what could be done to those few samples in the clip to make them beautiful or wearable.
