Do you agree with their Top 10? Any key looks missing? We would have added the orange-gold Rodarte number from Copenhagen!

Just watched Harpers Bazaar rep discuss Michelle Obama's top 10 looks on the Today show. She described the abundance of bracelets Michelle wears as "acres of bangles". Love that description (and love the bangles!!!)
had we seen the white dress from the D day celebration before? It is gorgeous! Would love your take on her wearing white to that somber event.
Michelle always looks great. Two of my favorites are the orange dress in Copenhagen and the tunic and pants she wore for the Poetry Jam at the Whitehouse.
Hi Jill, the white dress and coat (Narciso Rodriguez and Michael Kors respectively) were covered here: http://mrs-o.org/newdata/2009/6/6/remembering-d-day-updated.html
My two favourites are the black Alaia dress that she wore to the NATO dinner - ab fab.
The other one is the black dress that she wore for date night to New York. Everytime I see that dress it reminds me of the scene in Pretty Woman where Julie Roberts says to Richard Gere, "If I forget to tell you, I had a fabulous time tonight," and they jet off in the helicopter to the Opera.
My favorite that I would've added would be the white Michael Kors dress that our Michelle wore in July. I think it was to celebrate country music. She looked so elegant!. Also, the three piece wool ensemble that she wore the day before the inauguration @ the outdoor concert. It was camel/black skirt suit...fabulous! It did not get a lot of press, but it was so sharp. Cannot forget the Isabel Toledo suit on Inauguration day. I loved that lemongrass/olive/chartruese (it's been called all of these) creation. I had never seen wool lace before.
I agree that I would have added the inauguration ensembles and that poetry jam tunic (but not the cropped pants with it!), but overall I agree. I have always loved the green v-neck by Stevie Wonder's wife. There is something about a v-neck on this woman that just works wonders.
Personally, after watching What Not to Wear for so long, I decided to wear white throughout the year. Tradition says not after Labor Day, I say, why not? So I have abandoned the rule book and opened my personal wardrobe with colors and accessories to "think outside" the traditional box. I take scarves, belts and brooches to dress up my wardrobe on several fronts. If I wear a black two piece suit, I throw in color with the purse and the shoes. I am not always matching but I complement with color for a polished look. When you know your body type, it's easy to dress to accentuate your figure. Since I have large hips, I use patterns on top and color in the shoes and accessories. For suits, I wear pencil skirts or empire waisted clothing. Smaller patterns and solid colors finish my look. My personal favorite is the green dress, the red monochrome dress, purple dress worn in new york - museum and the cover of Glamour.
I would have added theformal gown worn at the govenors dinner at the white house in february
One that i think should have been there was what she wore at the govenors dinner at the white house in february
I agree, Charlene. The camel/black emsemble that she wore the day before the inauguaration was SHARP.
Here's my 'favorites' list (haven't updated since Copenhagen)
Pre-inauguration Night Concert (camel)
Inauguration Day - (sea grass green outfit)
Inauguration Evening Ball Gown
Ford's Theater Dress (w/crinoline)
Alfalfa Dinner - Corseted-back red dress
Vogue (inside photo sleeveless long black)
People Cover (pink lace)
O Magazine Cover (tangerine lemon)
Governor's Dinner (silver metallic gown)
Stevie Wonder Tribute at White House (green chiffon)
The Lei Dress
London 10 Downing Street Dinner - (black and white)
Germany Nato Concert/Dinner - (black w/crinoline)
Cinco de Mayo at WH - Acid green satin bodice beaded dress by Moschino
TIME 100 - Black sleeveless Michael Kors square neck tank gown, made from stretch double face wool crepe, with a Peter Sorenon corset (Audrey Hepburn'ish)
New York Dinner and a Play - Alaia Black dress with rows of ruffles
Obama Joint Session of Congress Speech - Moschino bow front pique swing jacket w/matching skirt
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Dinner in DC - Michael Kors black sequin boat neck dress
The U.N. - Michael Kors red silk shantung four button cap sleeve jacket and matching skirt
Pittsburgh Summit - Jason Wu black cocktail dress
Copenhagen - Michael Kors sunshine metallic silk matelasse sheath dress
Copenhagen - Rodarte orange lame pleated dress
I also loved the Rodarte bronze/orange dress she wore in Copenhagen. Also both the black and white version of the dress she wore in Ghana were beautiful!
It would be really nice to see Mrs Obama in other country's outfits especially if she's visiting abroad. She would look FABULOUS in Salwar Kurta (Indian outfit) just like how Princess Diana wore hers when she visited Pakistan. Oh I cannot wait to see her in a Saree and Salwar! just wishful thinking.
What about the Isabel Toledo look from inauguration day?? That was definitely one of my favorites!!
These choices are fine but how could they not include the Time 100 black dress that had us her "oohing and ahhing," or the purple Mizrahi from the MoMa ribbon cutting. The Copenhagen Rodarte dress should have been in there as well.
The Sartorialist (fascinating website) mentioned recently that white jeans are very big this Fall on the streets of Paris. I wear mostly black, white and red with some other colors. And I love white jeans.
This was a great special and thanks for sharing it! I love, love, love the last dress by Moises De La Renta because it was so beautiful and because it was such a tongue-in-cheek rebuff of the senior De La Renta ( a fashion genius himself) who had criticized some of Mrs. Obamas fashion choices.
I really think that the TIME 100 Michael Kors black dress accented with the corset should have made the list. I gasped when I saw the pictures. The entire look was exquisite.
As for the list, I only agree with the governor's ball and red De La Renta dresses. I'd select the Time 100 and NATO dinner dresses along with the orange dress and blue suit from Copenhagen.
New Pic?
Gorgeous Flotus in a gorgeous orange dress!!

Sheree,
i totally agree with you, there are no words to describe the way she looked in the dress....the funniest thing was on the morning just before i saw the photos, i was having a very lazy day and i didnt feel like going to the gym, but once i saw her arms in that dress. i literally ran out of the house to the gym!!!!
Hmm. I am VERY interested in the Harper's Bazaar "Executive Fashion Editor". I had this idea that a fashion editor would look ... well ... fashionable. Especially for a television appearance to talk about one of the most fashionable women in the world. Maybe I'm WAY off on that one. But the black suit looked stiff, heavy, frumpy and uncomfortable, the shiny high neck looked thirty years old and her hair was neither one thing nor the other. Choose one. Tie it back. Have it loose. On or the other? And THICK black tights????? Weird. Wrong. Odd.
I was also confused by some of the choice of language. She referred to an "umpire line" dress. Now, pardon me, but Empire line refers to the French empire which was the biggest one of several reworkings of that particular silhouette, while an umpire is someone who oversees a game of tennis. (In case anyone thought she might be pronouncing it the French way, that would have been om-peer. But she said om-pyre.)
Then the interviewer had to refer to Bucking Ham Palace. Now. I know that this is a running issue for most of my US friends, but, let us be clear, the building is NOT named after a rodeo featuring dear little piggy's. It's named for the Duke of Buckingham (whose house it once was) and is pronouced, my darlings: buckingum. No weirdy glottal stops or hesitations, just buckingum.
Right. I feel better now.
So, why wasn't the Time 100 Most Influential People dress in there? That was one that had most people stop in their shoes to say "WOW!" I'd also put the biscuit coloured, pleated chiffon dress in there, as worn for the DNC in 2008, with all the coloured rops of pearls. And I really liked the suit with velvet band as a belt from Copenhagen. I agreed with the list on the whole. Not sure why the Thakoon print dress and the red de la Renta dress were in there. They are very very nice, but not showstoppers.
The Bright Pink? with the elegant necklace outfit at the correspondance dinner
I think that they are missing the dress she wore for Anniversary and her outfit she wore back to Chicago for Valentines weekend. It was a very chic outfit.
@ Bea: I too am a longtime fan of Stacy and Clinton from "What Not to Wear" and I credit them with pushing me to think outside the box when it comes to what I wear. I am now teaching my daughter that things dont have to match they just should "go together". Classic Stacy and Clinton advice. Mrs. O validates this non-rule rule and everything else I learned from that show about proportion and dressing the body you have now not the body you wish you had. She represents what throwing the rule book out the window looks like on a real woman!
I think the denim shorts worn for vacation should have been listed. It really shows besides the glamour she can still frown on all you "Clothes Watchers" with the message "I'm ME."
