Mrs. O Rewears, Remixes Her J.Crew

Photo by Kevin Lamarque / Reuters Images
First Lady Mrs. O is hosting a women's health care event at the White House today, and for the occasion, is rewearing the famed J.Crew ensemble she first debuted on the Tonight Show in October 2008.
The November 2009 rendition of the ensemble includes a cut-out statement belt - definitely a hot item in Mrs. O's wardrobe as of late - and a sleek updo. Though we assume it's a coincidence, we cannot help but observe the remarkable color coordination with the golden yellow drapes in the background.
Click here to read the first lady's remarks from the event (it seems Mrs. O has a cold!). And apologies to those who commented earlier. We somehow deleted our first version of this post!

I agree that Mrs. O is very fashion forward and love the fact she i sbrave and tries different things.. defintely keeps it interesting and fun.. and perhaps unexpected..
That said, I think that the statement belt over everyting is getting a wee bit 'tired' especially when it gets to be so big as the one in this picture. It just is too big..She is a tall woman and has the waist to cary it off but even then I feel it is getting a bit too big. Same thing about the belt over the blue coat the other day..
Nora, thank you as well for the excellent suggestions. I'll try them.
Mrs O updo is awesome. I love it so much. First time in my life I am looking up to a true role model . I don't really care what she wears because that is not who she is. She is truly a shinning star.If she wants to wear a belt all the time that is her choice. The problem with most people is we focus on the wrong things in life. She keeps the family together ,and the president excited at nights. She is family oriented and is not self centered. What a great role model for me. In difficult times like these I wish everyone the best.
Maybe Mrs. O does not care what we all think, and I’m sure she will wear her belts no matter what anyone else says, HOWEVER, this is a fashion blog so we are supposed to comment on what we think of her outfits even if she never reads it or cares, so having said that:
The skirt is lovely and soft, it is a beautiful color and fabric. The outfit was great when she wore it on the Jay Leno show and it’s still just as wonderful.
But people really, do you really think this belt should be on with this skirt and cardigan? This belt looks totally ridiculous with the rest of her outfit. Wearing differing pieces together is one thing, but wearing something that totally decimates the other pieces… well I have no words.
This belt is a statement on its own, when one wears it the belt should be the focus and positive complement to the rest of the outfit, but this belt just takes away from the sheer loveliness of the skirt and cardigan.
Really it this was not on our wonderful Mrs. O would you all really think this was a good look?
The belt is baaaad and makes the whole outfit a miss.
Love the skirt and top/sweater, but not really loving the belt on this outfit. It just seems too big, dark and fussy for this outfit. Like the hair and love the smile.
Ooooooo ann50 I really hope you DO give up.
Lota - couldn't agree with you more.
Joyce, no, you're not "supposed" to comment whether you like it or not. You MAY comment. There is a difference. Some of us were brought up to comment in a constructive manner, with respect to the wearer. Some of us weren't.

Yet another flawless outfit from Mrs O. Love the colours, love the belt - it really is stunning. Do we know who made it? It looks fabulous whatever she teams it with. It's so nice to see a little 1940's wasp waisted glamour sparkling in the White House. Cardigans are great, but often hang badly, especially over a slippery textured top, so the belts are a good way to tighten everything up and stop it the ensemble wandering about. As Mrs O is not over endowed up top, she can get away with the cinched wide belt really well. I am full of admiration!
Oh - and if she IS ill with a cold, she looks incredible! I'm in bed sniffling and I look like death. She looks amazing!!! And no, I think shes far too busy to come here. I do sometimes wonder if Desiree pops in for a good laugh at some of the stupidity though.
you know what, posh tater...i think i won't give up...someone has to speak truth to bad taste...especially since FLOTUS has a great figure and plenty of $$$ and could really look so much better if she dumped the BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIg belts..but maybe she is just having us on......
V A S E L I N E - YES IT WORKS (PLAIN OLD PETROLEUM JELLY).
I DON'T KNOW WHAT MRS O USES ON HER SKIN FOR SHEEN, BUT I CAN GUARANTEE
THIS, AFTER A SHOWER OR JUST WASHING YOUR LEGS, ROUGH FEET ETC.
RUB IN VASELINE, AND MAYBE SEAL IT ON WITH A SOFT VIT. E CREAM FROM
THE DRUG STORE OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO EXPERIMENT WITH. JUST
A TOUCH, (NOT LIKE GREASING A BAKING PAN - (SMILE).
WARNING: VASELINE CAN SOIL DARK CLOTHING. SO IF YOU PUT IN ON, WEAR
YOUR SWEAT PANTS TILL READY TO GO OUT. GET DRESSED THEN JUST
BFORE STEPPING OUT RUB ON SOME MORE FOR SHEEN. I AM OLIVE SKINNED
AND I RUB VASELINE ON THE TOP OF MY ARMS FOR A GREAT GLOW.
SHADE DOESN'T MATTER, BUT DARKER SKIN GLOWS WHEN VASELINE RUBBED IN CAREFULLY.
MRS O HAS NATURALLY SOFT SMOOTH SKIN, SO ADDING A LITTLE SHEEN WOULD
NOT BE HARD. THIS IS WHAT WE USED IN THE ISLANDS WHEN WE COULDNT GET CREAMS.
I TRIED SHEA BUTTER TOO AND EVEN COCOA BUTTER - TEST FIRST OR ASK A FREIND.
LOL @Ann your words present as a jealous hideous woman and speaks quite low of your character. What in the world do you mean her particular figure? You need to be clear here. Do you mean a gorgeous, voluptuous, stateseque figure? I guess its difficult for you to grapple with having a first lady like Michelle to remind you of everything you're NOT or will NEVER be!
FLOTUS definitely gets IT and takes pride in accentuating and enhancing her flawless hip to waist ratio; if you got it flaunt it. She is a great role model for girls and women in certain segments in society who have been ignored way too long.
I hope you mean what you say when you promise to give up, because right now you may need to focus on yourself and leave FLOTUS alone.
Michelle looks fabulous! Love Love her! I can't wait too show off my long beautiful curvy legs in the Spring *doing the snoopy dance* :).
Shea butter is wonderful lorns, but most women from the caribbean usually have a beautiful sheen and sunkissed look about us and need very little extras LOL.
Lorns, I definitely use vaseline or baby oil and now baby oil comes in the gel form so it is not that greasy. And yes you must have a towel nearby to wipe your hands or you will definitely mess up your clothing, LOL!! But, IMO, its worth it because nothing provides a better shine.
Joyce, are the questions you're asking us rhetorical? Because, if I already told you that I like the belt, then I mean that. I say what I mean and I mean what I say.
Posh Tater are you really going to go after everyone who may not like an outfit Ms. O wears. It's a fashion blog; yes we are here to comment on her fashion. No one is saying negative things about Ms. O.
Actually if this was someone else I'm sure I would not even take the time to say anything, but when you really love and admire someone I think it's important to be honest, (nice and constructive but honest)
Mrs. O is too wonderful for words, but in my opinion some of her outfits are a clear miss, often because she ruins them with an un-needed belt. In my opinion that is the case for this outfit.
Post, I'm going to state my opinion, sometimes you and I will agree and sometimes we won't and that's fine. If you plan on chastising everyone who does not like each outfit Ms. O wears that up to you; but really, why bother?
MELCY & NYON - THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY. I'M NEW TO THIS CHAT STUFF SO
IT FEELS GREAT. 1. I'M A HUGE FAN ALSO AND HAPPY TO BE WITH THE FOLLOWERS.
I LEFT THE CARIBBEAN OVER 20 YRS AGO, SO I LOST MY SUNKISSED SKIN. I'M UP
NORTH WITH THE 4 SEASONS. I RESPONDED TO THE "SHEEN" BECAUSE I'VE SEEN
A FEW COMMENTS ON THAT TOPIC AND FELT THE ANSWER WAS RIGHT AT HOME.
2. NYON, I HAVE VERY DRY FEET, DO YOU THINK THE BABY OIL WOULD HELP? OH,
MELCY YOUR'E NOT EASY, SHOWING OFF YOUR BEAUTIFUL LONG LEGS (I BEG YOUR
PARDON (SMILE).
Ann50, I've learned the hard way that the concept of "agree to disagree" does not exist on this blog :) When it comes to Mrs. O. some expect that you are either "with" the Mrs. O loyalists or "against" them;no middle ground allowed. Remaining on this blog and "commenting truthfully" is not for the faint of heart!
Lorns, I think you should stick with the vaseline for your feet. Because if they are very dry, baby oil, which is much lighter than vaseline, will absorb too quickly.
NYON, Thanks. I am going to be taking more care with my feet now. Will let you know
results later. Mrs. O has really inspired me with the way she takes care of her skin.
Welcome to the site lorns!
Raw Shea butter is wonderful for all year round beautiful sheen. The smell is not that great, so I sometimes mix it with a litte raw Egyptian Musk oil or Patchouli oil, but it is the BEST dry feet! You can find it in most African Markets or outdoor festival vendors.
I don't like the belt.
And I love Mrs. O. And I love her figure. And I love her fashion sense in general and most of the outfits she wears. And I love her marvelous representation as the FLOTUS, and as a model for every woman. And I believe she has the right to choose to wear whatever she wants to wear whenever she wants to wear it. And she, if she desires, may even have fun with her fashion followers.
And I still don't think this particular belt with this particular outfit is flattering to her or to her otherwise beautiful ensemble.
Joyce, what is your angle dear? just need EVERYONE to agree with you about the belt. What part of its HER STYLE if SHE LIKES IT WHY CANT YOU LOVE IT>>>> LOL dont you understand. Why dont you share a favorite " out of the box" so to speak style you may have that SPEAKS.. I AM JOYCE AND YOU MUST LOVE IT LOLLLL>. that you can share with us. DO you realize there is fashion and there is personal style?
Nora, Thanks for your comment. I have certainly learned the same thing. In fact, I've seen only a few really ugly comments here. Most people who post here really like Mrs. Obama and think she is very attractive. We just disagree on which of her outfits are the most flattering. Since we all like her so much, we hope that she will wear what we think is most flattering all the time!
Personally, I enjoy seeing each of her clothing choices. Usually I don't comment, but I always have an opinion. I think most people try to be constructive. For example, they say that the color of an outfit is wonderful and that they like a cardigan or a skirt.
I really don't understand those who believe that they have to polarize a group of women who really like Mrs Obama and love seeing what she chooses to wear. This would be a really boring blog if all posters were in total agreement on every outfit.
Mrs. Obama is a classy and beautiful lady who has her own style as everyone does. I think she is great!
MELCY, Thank you. I will look for the Eygptian Oil etc. I had bought the Shea butter
on sale 400mg drug store brand, (to try, instead of cocoa butter) priced right $1.99
for around the house. I'll try the flea market next week.
She looks beautiful as always. The beaming smile makes it. The colour, textures, patterns are lovely...but, is it just me, or does the belt make the outfit look messy? A case of a little too much going on here? I am a big belt fan and love what she has done with them in the past but I have to say I am getting a little tired of the pencil skirt, cardi, belt ensemble.
Never thought I'd write this ... but I LOVE the belt. I think it takes the outfit from JCrew catalog to something unique.
BELTS - OK I HAVE TO COMMENT ON THE BELT.
I love Mrs. O. Followed her throughout the campaign. I collected a few magazines
in her first year for my museum. I have seen many beautiful emails of her before
she was in the white house. This is not a critism, BUT sometimes I don't
understand the belt. As over the blue coat on Veteran's day and close fitting blue
dress. She has worn many outfits without a belt. The black belt on that dress emphazised
her stomach, she could have worn a loose fitting dress if preferred. So here's what I think.
First her bare arms made a statement and everyone wanted to work out and get those
healthy arms. NOW the belt maybe her new fashion statement, then 3 mths from now
it's something else. Mrs. O is highly intelligent, she's aware. YOU just don't marry
a man like the President, have your PHD from Harvard, great mom and career at the
same time, meet people from all walks of life all over the world and be UNAWARE.
Trust me MRS. O knows exactly what she's doing. She knows the media is going to
follow her and disect almost every move, so she probably says - I'll give them something
to talk about, or, maybe a fashion or hair do that is quick and easy and start up a new trend,
OR JUST PROMOTE THE BELTS?
I l o v e belts. Wore them for over 20 yrs because I didnt have hips. Now I gained weight
but it was like an addiction. The first thing I used to think of was...which broad belt will I
wear today, til all my girlfriends started asking, L why do you always wear a belt...guess
what, I'm petite, they all have big stomachs (not a critisism) suddenly one friend wanted me
to help her find a huge belt to wear around her waist. So there you go. MRS O CAN DO
NO WRONG IN MY EYES. SHE'S VERY DOWN-TO-EARTH.
Lorns, I don't think she has a PHD from Harvard, but she has a Law Degree from Harvard; correct me if I'm wrong somebody.
Aside from that, your comments are very interesting and make a lot of sense.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Obama have "Juris Doctor" degrees aka law degrees.
SWEET ensemble . Legs look great. Hair looks great. Smile is priceless !
Here are some clips of Mrs. O in Denver today...

BABS, Thanks for your compliment. Sweet of you.
MARABOUT40, Thanks for correcting me on the degree. Shows you cant
believe everything the media says. I feel terrible about making that mistake.
I like to be correct when I write. Anyway did a search. Mrs O is My Lady of
the millenium (smile) I GOT MY GLAMOUR MAGAZINE WITH MRS O ON COVER,
TODAY, anxious to look inside.
Melcy...oh please, no need to attack me...she does look ridiculous in this outfit (soley because of the belt---the rest looks stunning on her). You need to get a life and rememeber that this blog is about style and fashion and does not reflect on anyone's worth as aperson--not hers and not mine.
If she had worn this outfit without the belt she would have hit it out of the ballpark! This color is great with her skintone and one of the best color combinations I've seen on her. I also love it when she wears sheath dresses but without belts.
I think that this belt is rellay cute but I just don't think it goes well with the ooutfit she is wearing. I have noticed that 90% of the time she is wearing a belt with her outfit. Some outfits just don't need belts with them. I wonder how much longer she will continue the belt trend?
Ann50: Thank you for your comment, and thanks to Nora and Rossley, too. You have stated your views well, without the use of profanity or name-calling. I SO wish that some of the posters on here could be as eloquent, as opposed to being so into their attack mode that they sometimes do not make any sense. I also will never understand why someone would come on this site without any mention at all of Mrs. O.'s fashion choices, but rather to bash and try to humiliate other posters. It's just plain creepy.
