A Fashion Forward Fan

Official White House Photo by Samantha Appleton

desertwind, thanks for pointing us to this new photo of Mrs. O, taken at the first World Series game this past week. It appears that under Mrs. O's World Series sweatshirt, the first lady was wearing a black and white jacket and blouse combo from Thakoon. We first spotted this look during the fall of 2008 at the first vice presidential debate in early October, seen here.

We love that this look was given an encore - one of our favorites of last year - not to mention the enthusiasm on Mrs. O and Jill B's faces, reacting to a big play during the game. Is that a brooch we see, pinned at the center of Mrs. O's blouse?

Hmmm, is that a bag of chips I see in front of her? So much for healthy eating. ;o) There's a--somewhat dated--saying that she is "all that and a bag of chips". That definitely decribes Mrs. O as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who works out as hard as she does can eat chips....and also wear... anything she darn well pleases. What a role model she is!

I'm pretty sure that's a bag of peanuts she has there. Always a good choice at a ball game!

At all the ball games I’ve attended, peanuts are sold in the ubiquitous red & white or blue & white striped bags (as a nod to America’s favorite pastime and league colors) so I think these are Lays. Of course, my baseball viewing has been limited to the west coast and never included a world series, so who knows how it’s done in New York. It’s not a big deal. I just thought it was funny.

I love this combination of texture and print. It's a hard look to pull off, but she does it beautifully.

But, Mrs. Biden - high heeled boots on a baseball diamond?? I'm sure the groundskeeper was not thrilled. Take a page from Mrs. O's book and think about shoes that look like you're at a baseball game, not out to dinner and a movie.

If they are Lays, they porbably are Baked Lays!! LMAO!!

And if she had this under her World Series jacket, then she was VERY warm!

Wonder what play elicited such a response? Really like the jacket.

Love the textures & tones of this Thakoon look. And really love the looks on their faces!

I wonder what the play was? Something about the intensity of Jill Biden's expression makes me think the Phillies were not the winners on this play though they won the game. I'm not sure who Mrs. O was secretly rooting for, but Jill Biden is a huge Phillies fan.

I like the look of mixed patterns and textures. When I've seen them in magazines or from runway shows, they look fascinating. I think nobody does it better than Anna Sui, her stuff is the bomb. But, it does not work on me. I've tried it and either I'm doing something wrong or it just does not suit my body type. Having said that, I'm always in awe when I see real women do it and it works. This works on our Michelle. I like the combination and I'm ok with this not being something that works on me. No harm, no foul.

Love the jacket, but also the hairstyle! They go well together for the occasion - casual yet pretty.
