Very sexy, Madam first lady!

Va-va-voom. I hope they had a wonderful night too. She really knows how to keep her man "interested" everytime. That's what marriage is supposed to be about. Plus, the President needs all the love he can get in these turbulent times. She inspires me.

I just saw the pictures on Getty Images and I must say that dress is SMOKING! I like the shape of the dress and it seems to be trimmed in sequin or some other trimming. Looks really elegant and not something that I could pull off......GO MICHELLE !!!! Happy Anniversary to President and Mrs. Obama. I hope you have many, many more.

BRINGING SEXY "BACK"

With lovely alabaster skin like hers and a back that shows every nuance of expression and movement I too would be wearing a halter on my date night for my hubby!

There seems to be a very interesting clasp at the back. From the photos on yahoo, something catches the light behind there, and the satin look of the straps against her skin is very very alluring...

I am very happy they are celebrating their 1st Anniversary as The President & First Lady. It must also still seem a bit surreal when they think about their lives 1 yr ago and now.

Cheers!

Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 8:38 PM | Registered CommenterRocky

@Rocky,
Doesn't "alabaster" usually indicate things that are white or light in color? MO deserves all the positive props she can get, but I wasn't sure if your effusive praise was truly intended for her, or for one of the former first ladies from administrations past?

Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 10:04 PM | Registered CommenterAsereht

@Asereht,

In this instance "alabaster" meaning smoothness, referring to Mrs.O skin texture.

Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 10:21 PM | Registered CommenterRocky

@Rocky,
I've been black..... well.,.all of my life (lol) ....and I have never heard our skin described as alabaster. Then again, there was a post (somewhere a few threads back) that described MO's make up as "beat". You can probably imagine what image that brought to mind until someone offered up an explanation of how the term is currently used. Thanks for the enlightment...no pun intended.

Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 10:52 PM | Registered CommenterAsereht

Lovely and elegant! Glad they had a night out for their 17th anniversary.

Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 11:04 PM | Registered Commenterann#1

Alabaster
n.
A dense translucent, white or tinted fine-grained gypsum.
A variety of hard calcite, translucent and sometimes banded.
A pale yellowish pink to yellowish gray.

LOL I don't think that describes Mrs. O :-)

HELP! Would someone please tell me why Mrs. O never has a handbag?? Just curious, as it is one of my favorite accessories and I am always on the lookout for hers!!!!

Happy Anniversary President & Mrs Obama! God bless you with many more happy years! Stay blessed.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 1:39 AM | Registered CommenterLota

Happy Anniversary to the Obamas. Not sure I'm loving the cut of the dress from what I can see on the Huffington Post photos (what it does to her bustline and the way it hangs).....however, if you're going to go out to dinner you can enjoy yourself in a dress that isn't cutting off your circulation, so there you go! Her hair and makeup looks great and her husband has eyes for nobody else but her, so I guess whether or not any of us like it is kind of irrelevant. After 17 years if your man is looking at you like this you got no worries. Work it, Mrs. Obama!

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 3:57 AM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

Happy Anniversary President and First Lady! May you enjoy many many many more! I love how the blue clutch offsets the black outfit. And those Jimmy Choos are equally charming in black.

@dee84

I was using the word rather as an adjective and not a noun. In poetic/ literary terms you can use the word a little more unconventionally.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 9:03 AM | Registered CommenterRocky

@ Jujuo
In these pics, she is holding a clutch. When you see her in her casual pics, she is often holding a handbag. Look at some of the pics of them walking to or from Marine One. So when you say NEVER, that is not true.

When she is on official duty, that is when you don't see her with one. I bet it would be clumsy with all the hugs and handshakes she gives. She is the first lady, so yes, she can (or can't in this case).She has personal assistants. I'm sure there is someone holding/ watching her handbag for her.

We regular, everyday women usually carry handbags as we go about our day and we need to carry everything with us. Her car is never far from where she is at and she doesn't stay at these places for long enough to need anything in it, hence there's no need to carry it with her. Besides, she probably looks more crisp and clean in pictures without one than with one. Even when you see celebs on the red carpet taking pics, you will sometimes see them hand their clutches to an assistant before posing on the red carpet.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 9:04 AM | Unregistered CommenterOriginal Mrs. A

To JuJu - I think that when Mrs. Obama is "working" there are assistants who probably carry her handbag. Whenever you do see her carry a handbag/clutch she is on her own time and therefore the assistants are probably not working.

@ JACC, Jimmy Choo calls that style the "Lantern"

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10:14 AM | Registered CommenterMrs. T

@JACC,

I don't know whay Jimmy's reason was, but I can see them being called "Lantern" because of all the little cutouts or see thru spaces...similar to what you might see in a window pane or on some lanterns.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 2:59 PM | Registered CommenterNyon

Yay! Blue Duck Tavern was a great choice! I used to live a block two blocks from that resaurant and enjoyed eating there from time to time. The menu is local, organic, and seasonal. Perfectly echoing FLOTUSs philosophy about eating well.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 3:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterMark

Asereht, I LOL over your post. It reminded me of how funny and charming our president was on the Letterman show when Letterman asked him if he agreed with Jimmy Carter's remarks about the brouhaha over health care having more to do with race than anything else. And how President Obama said, "Well, you know, I was a black man when I was elected." And then Letterman (deadpan) said, "How long have you known you were black?" I got so tickled over that exchange and how cool and collected the president always is. I so admire him and his lovely wife and family and I agree that she looked fantastic in that halter dress. And, by the way, I've been white all my life.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 3:55 PM | Unregistered CommenterPat

Sexy and happy. That's how she looked on her anniversary evening. The dress seems comfortable, yet stylish at the same time. Mr. O looks so content in the pictures of him leaving the restaurant. Can't help but feel good when the president seems so grounded.

@Pat - that was a great line from the president.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 4:42 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

@ Pat
Obama said, "Well...First of all, It's important to realize that I was actually black before the election." (Bit different from what you quoted.) Here is a video:

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 5:05 PM | Unregistered CommenterOriginal Mrs. A

@Pat,

I can't stay awake late enough to watch Letterman so I haven't seen his show in quite a while. It's impossble to hide your race, but for some reason, I tend to guard my age like it's a top state secret. I was about to tell it and chose to evade it, however, saying that I go to bed early probably gives it away anyway.

I'm just grateful to have lived long enough to witness the Obama family in the whitehouse and I too greatly admire our President and his wife and all that they bring to our nation. When it comes to her fashion choices, and the many negative comments they sometimes ellicit, there's just too much other substance there to get bogged down by quibbling over the length of her hemline or the girth of her hips so I move on.

Peace!

Woooooow... So sexy, elegant, lovely, gorgeous, and above all fashionable as always. No wonder that Mr. President Obama can be and stay so young...lol..

I never thought a back could be "beautiful" but Mrs. O really does have amazing skin and a beautiful back. I would love to look as good as her in a backless dress

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 6:56 PM | Unregistered CommenterKim

Does anyone know who designed this dress? Could it be Narciso Rodriguez?

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 7:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterCharlene in Detroit

Sorry...this dress is wrong. The halter is too athletic for a woman her age, the length is now too long(remember the great too short debate?), the contrasting trim at the top is too tight and cuts her just under the arm so there is some "overhang" and the non-shape makes her hips look too big. She is a great looking woman, but this makes her look like she is about to enter the ring. However, her makeup, simple updo hair is right on target. The dramatic cuff(s), classic earings, bare neck and great shoes work for her. If only her hair and makeup people could infleunce her clothing people...

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 7:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterHamiltonIV

l hope that Mrs. O didn't pay too much for the dress. As great as she looks, the dress looks like the everyday fare at Bebe, H&M and Forever 21. Not an issue against Mrs. O herself, but the designer. Sure some people will misinterpret what I mean...

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 8:33 PM | Unregistered CommenterOriginal Mrs. A

Well, this is a look I love...and perfect for the occasion.

They look so happy....love them both and am so glad to have them in the White House.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 9:01 PM | Unregistered CommenterBarbara

too athletic...too long...too tight...hips too big...damn. Leave her alone!!!! She's on a freaking date with her hubby. His smiling face doesn't lie...he likes what he sees.

I love this blog, but I'm just so tired of the negativity. Too this, too that. NOTHING AND NO ONE IS PERFECT. A bunch of Goldilockses up in here. Sometimes I wish Mrs. O's fashion wasn't an issue because like most art, fashion is subjective. And while I appreciate varying opinions, the nitpicking is getting to be too much. Are some people just staring at her pictures inspecting every inch for problems? This is a simple black dress, incorporating the loose babydoll type style we're seeing all over the stores. It's like some people expect her to walk around in solid color sheath dresses, or D.C.-styled suits all day every day.

Sorry for the rant. I made the mistake of reading the previous thread, having missed it this weekend, and I guess I'm just hyped.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 9:21 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

IVA, You are not alone in your frustration with the nitpickers, a number of whom are downright vicious. You can tell some of them have an ulterior political agenda to 'denigrate" our First Couple every single chance they get. It is an endless negative chorus out there. Yet I admire so much the Obama's inspiring ability to rise above all that sludge.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 9:49 PM | Unregistered Commenterzizi

Well said IVA. A lot of women will give up perfect cloths and shoes for a husband like the President.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 9:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterJay

Oh IVA - It's okay love, you are much stronger than the trolls, please know that! This is called psychological warfare and is an attempt to turn this site on its head by creating this awful, off putting, putrid atmosphere by bombarding it with these unending negative and backhanded comments by registered and unregistered trolls alike. We must not let them win. Please do not give up on this one solitary positive site dedicated to Mrs Obama. Let's fight to keep this place as it should be.
You would think that after all this time of whinging about how terrible Mrs Obama's style and fashion tastes are, they would have like most non-agenda driven people, moved on to some other site where people with their approved fashion tastes and styles are discussed and celebrated. But no, they stay because for them this is not about discussing fun fashion, it is like many have stressed, about diminishing this lovely woman. But Karma's is a b****, and a few people will soon be finding that out.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 9:55 PM | Registered CommenterEleroy

I think some of our regular posters need to calm down. Not everyone agrees that this is a dress that flatters Mrs. Obama. IMHO it does not. To me it looks like a shapeless black sack. This is a fashion blog and that's what I think of this look. It's not a personal slam against the FLOTUS or anything, I'm just saying what MY thought about the dress is. The one time a belt might have helped, she leaves it home! Go figure!

Ladies, please relax. It's fashion. Remember one of our regulars posted awhile ago that she is dying of cancer. Put it all in perspective and put the brakes on hate and getting bent out of shape and remember what's important. This site has become a place for me to go to when I need to relax after a long, stressful day. Please don't make it into anything more or less than what it's intended to be.

Thanks.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10:06 PM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

Wow! I was just thinking how good she would look in a halter-top, and she sure does. Did someone say she was "too old" to wear a halter-top? We should all be that "old"! According to the interview in Prevention, she wears what makes her feel good and she doesn't really care what others think---good for her.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10:19 PM | Unregistered CommenterEmma44

IVA,

You have the right to rant. Just like the people giving their "honest opinions" don't bite their tongues, you don't have to either.

Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10:24 PM | Registered CommenterNyon

@HamiltonIV

Sorry hunny, Michelle will NEVER change her style!!!! Don't be jealous of her, she has the life that you wished you had. Just because YOU dress a certain way does not mean her style should be changed. NEVER CHANGE Mrs. O!!!!

@IVA

Don't apologize. Women on her are getting crazy. Women in the other thread where NITPICKING about how many INCHES Flotus dresses are. INCHES, women are complaing about INCHES of her dresses. INCHES, people on here are nuts. I could not believe when I read a woman on her talk about her skirts being a couple of inches above her knees, and she needs to wear them longer. She is not a boring 65 year old woman, Then people drive me crazy with the dress code rule book. I will NEVER believe when a woman wrote a paper about how she is "supposed" to dress! Or how Ikram is to blame for Michelle's style. People don't realize is that Michelle CHOOSES, and pays for her clothes. ITS HER STYLE, she would NEVER pay for something she does not like.
