Darling Os

Photo by Annie Leibovitz/Released by White House Photo Office
The White House has just released the most wonderful family portrait of the Os. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, the family sat for the portrait on September 1, 2009. Beautiful!
Update: The fabulous Ari has helped to confirm that Mrs. O wears an Azzedine Alaia dress, seen here. Mrs. O previously wore the dress for a celebration to honor the late Senator Ted Kennedy's birthday earlier this year, here, as well as for the Obama Staff Ball following the inauguration, here.

FANTABULOUS......ADORABLE.....VIBRANT..... They are so much at ease with this photo it doesn't look like they are posing for a photo at all. Sasha's dress is too cute; isn't Malia growing up a wee bit fast? Love the fact that Mrs.O dressed down a bit, cuz it gave the Prez and the girls an opportunity to stand out.
An obvious HAPPY FAMILY. Luv, Luv, Luv, this photo .Yup my screensaver too JenJohnson
Even though I'm in my 20s I think I would go totally grandma on Sasha and pinch those cheeks, she's so cute.

Love it - love it - love it!!! Everyone is relaxed, happy, TOGETHER!! We are so blessed to have this beautiful, loving family in the White House and this thoughtful, caring, SMART man to make the decisions that guide our country - THANK YOU TO THE OBAMAS FOR MAKING THE SACRIFICE TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY!!
Lovely portrait---in the hi-rez photo you can see how grey the Pres. is getting. Also, I used to think that Malia was the pretty one, but after seeing Sasha up close, I can see that she's every bit as pretty as her sister.
It's so nice to see a family that is genuinely happy and close. They're a role model for our country, and not just an image.
They are so wonderfull, pretty family. I'm so glad to see them. Annie Leibovitz make it as usual.
What a beautiful family. More than anything, I hope it's a metaphor for the hope some of us still feel.
Still don't like Malia perched on the arm of a chair, which according to WH museum website is an authentic Federal period antique (1800-1815). Moreover, she looks uncomfortable. There is plenty of room for her to sit in the middle between Sasha and Michelle on another small chair or bench. Think the emotional connections could have been shown without this ackwardness.
I think you're making her look awkward. She looks quite comfortable to me. Adding another chair or bench, no just no. Squeezing her between Sasha and Michelle would have been a problem too simply because of her height. She needs to be leaning on something and it happened to be the arm rest. The chair didn't break so I don't think it's a problem.
What a beautiful family!!!
OMG I just noticed that Sasha has daddy's ears! LOL.
I've always been of the belief that the President and his family have tremendous ability to set the tone for the country, and to affect the way We The People interact with ourselves and each other on a daily basis. This picture is such an affirmation of that belief. You look at this family, and regardless of what's happening around you and in your life -- joblessness, homelessness, wealth inequities, all of it -- and you still have hope. To quote a guest on a recent Oprah show, it's a feeling of "joy rising", and just that feeilng is invaluable and so powerful. What you believe, you can conceive, and what you can conceive, you can create. Simply put, I look at this beautiful, healthy, calm and loving family and I believe in all things goods. I think most people look at them and do the same thing. And when we believe, we can do anything. And we will do great things - I just know it! Thanks Obamas!
Sasha looks like sunshine, simply beautiful.
