Bold Black and White

The president and first lady have returned home to the White House, and while the Olympic bid was perhaps not a success, the first couple is certainly looking more stylish than ever! First Lady Mrs. O wears a graphic black and white dress, cinched at the waist with her longtime favorite Alaia belt and topped by a cropped black cardigan.
Update #1: We thought Mrs. O's windowpane dress looked familiar, but couldn't quite put our finger on it. We're delighted to learn that it's a dress from the Liz Claiborne New York Summer 2009 collection.
Update #2: Thanks to Charlene in Detroit, we've discovered that this dress is still available and on sale, here.

I think I'm just going to ignore whatever has been going on already and just say that I love the black and white check dress with black cardigan. Too, too stylish.
Also, looking at the anniversary photo's, I'd say Mr Obama spent that evening thanking his lucky stars over and OVER again. Hehehe.
She did look really good in the the black and white upon her return. I am not certain why she continues to add those little sweaters with formal attire. I assume she wore yellow since its one of the Olympic colors. I agree her speech and his were not that compelling. He should have stayed home especially since I read that Rio was the favorite. Neither his speech nor hers was enough to sway the voters. Michelle Obama is young, vibrant, good looking and fit for a woman her size. But her advisors need to stop dressing her in some of those fashions that are 1) too young for her, and 2) do not flatter her figure. That night she had on the pumpkin colored dress was an example. Her figure is not suited for gathers and the choice was for a much younger woman. I understand her wanting to use younger designers but some of those outfits are not for her! That being said I love everything she is doing as First Lady and a mother. Please Michelle consult some designers that will dress you as a 45 year old, fit but big boned, mother, first lady.
I chuckled at your mischievous post Posh Tater. I too imagine a grand time was had by both and very well deserved too.
Lota - I completely agree with you. I've been one of those calling out these terrible trolls that come here to stir things up. The idea that we coddle, make excuses and assuage people like Christen etc. even when they continue to exhibit such terrible behavior just so we can keep some warped idea of "balance" on this site, is ridiculous and naive. By the way, the occasional "positive" post to attempt to throw us off isn't fooling any half intelligent person. It's been written over and over again, and we do not have to be mind readers to know this: these are nasty, ill-intentioned people. Their never ending posts on this site are not designed to engage in fun fashion talk. They invade from a bad place and with bad intentions and not calling them by name does not change a thing.
ELEROY: WHAT "terrible behavior?" I want specific examples, please.
Wow @ the jealousy wreaking from some of these posts smh
Shyril..what the first lady has taught us is to retrain the eye especially for an industry consumed with waif-like figures.
As I mentioned in a previous post Michelle looks darn good for her age, I could only hope and pray to look as beautiful and preserved as she does when I turn 45. If so, you can rest assure that I too will seek out similiar designers who are capable of designing spectacular clothing for a dynamic and mature woman!
Well said Melcy.
Hey Ladies...Guess what? I've found this dress, and it's on sale for $48.99. WOW! Go on belk.com and type in Liz column dress and voila. They have sizes from 4 thru 16 and the dress has side pockets. As I said in an earlier post, I don't work here, no commission coming my way. I'm just a sister helping my fellow chat sisters out. So, if this is your style and you want a little First Lady look..... HAPPY SHOPPING!!!
Oh, I almost forgot, Zappos.com has a really nice replica of the JJimmy Choo's that is Mrs. O's favorite pumps. Check out Berry by Bandolino for $59.90 and Allisyn by RSVP for $65.00. Both come in several colors and look quite like the Jimmies. I hope I'm not monopolizing tonight. HAPPY SHOPPING !!!
Wow, that is very sharp! And such a bahgain! Very pretty…
@Audrey,
I agree with everything you've said in response to the trolls like Florida Lawyer, Pinky, and others of their ilk. As have been noted previously, their postings have nothing to do with fashion commentary, it all have to do with them finding another avenue to try to put down The First Lady. Don't they know by now that their hate is wasted, because neither does Mrs. Obama nor the people posting their commentary on this blog care or value their negative rantings. It's one thing to positively critique a look the First Lady chooses to wear on a particular day, but it is downright bitchy to turn that observation into a personal attack that is totally unwarranted. That's the essence of their discourse! Thank God the Obamas' epitomize healthy self-esteem and confidence, therefore, I'm pretty sure they don't spend any time worrying about morons like these who still haven't gotten it yet. But I will continue to applaud those of you on this blog who rightly call these people out when they persist in getting on this blog to spew their hate (disguised as fashion commentary in most cases) and negativism. They should realize by now that there are no takers here. But like you so clearly stated, Audrey, these people don't care about the long-term damage they do to public discourse in this country and how it will come back to harm this country's stature in the world. I realize these people are in the minority, but they are a very vocal and vicious minority that needs to be exposed each time the rear their ugly heads. We saw this behavior in the townhall meetings and teabagger fests all over the country. When they were confronted by reasoned people they slumped away into the background to lurk for another day. Thank you Audrey, Posh Tater, Uri and others for speaking out as needed. Someone's got to do it!
Why would Oprah need ANYBODY to pick up her tab? If you thinks Mrs. O clothes are silly and childish, why even log onto the website? I like the fact that Machelle O looks like me and she is living in the most famous house in this country. This is a women who is comfortable in her skin, and who can mix high end as well as low ends pieces together. I love the fact that she works like me and her family is the most important thing to her. All haters fall back! Guess who is serving dinner! Bye BYE HATERS
