Cascading Cashmere

Illustration by fabulous young designer Kaitlin Campitelli
In a recent interview with WWD, Maria Pinto clued us in on a future Mrs. O ensemble: "a lean black cashmere number with a cascade effect in back" purchased from the designer's Chicago boutique a few months ago. We so enjoyed Miss Kaitlin's last illustration for us, we asked if she would do another. With only a loose description to work from, we love the thoughtful and inspired interpretation above - sleek, classic and the perfect canvas for a signature Mrs. O brooch. The only question that remains: when and where will Mrs. O debut it?

Very interesting... To really work as illustrated, it will have to be worn short in the front as shown the drawing.
How daring for Mrs O... but she could pull it off. She is wearing short in those swing coat photos and looks great.
Cant wait to see where this look is going to pop up.
Just wanted to say that I absolutely adore this site! I have e-mailed it to all my friends already.
I basically love, love, love Michelle's style and it's awesome to find a place to discuss it!
I love it. I can't quite tell how casual or dressy it is.
That would magnifique.
Are you positing this dress for the inaugural? Is she really going to show that much - or any - leg? I would love it; but let's be honest: how many "First Lady" barriers can Mrs. O break by herself?
Love the idea of black cashmere - gives the design an edge. Also, Kaitlin's conceptual illustrations add a fun touch to the anticipation. Love your site.
Not for the Inaugural Ball, no. Maybe for a high-profile dinner? We will have to wait and see!
Another winner from Maria Pinto. Not appropriate for the Inauguration but would look great for a dinner party. I hope she wears maria Pinto for the swearing in ceremony if she decides to go with someone else for the Ball.
Dark, depressing, hangs like a sack. Nothing knit or clingy for Mrs. O. She does NOT have the shape for it, and face it: KNEES are not the most beautiful part of most women especially ones over 40. It's great if you want to just throw out designs you like, but if you are designing for a particular person, you cannot ignore their flaws or assets.
Watch the movie with Shirley Maclain about Coco Chanel and learn why Chanel was so successful. She knew how to alter something to make it flattering on the fattest and shortest customer. Mrs. O is rather pigeon toed. A dress that accentuates her knees is not a good choice. A floor length gown is the only thing appropriate for something as formal as a Ball. She should wear an A-line or full skirt that flatters the large derierre.
Some people never have anything nice to say about Mrs.O. It makes me wonder why they're even on this website.
Although this is a elegant dress. She should not wear it at all on inaguration day/night.
Michelle should not wear black at all on this day, let alone something that shows her knees. wrong choice
Michelle plz do not pick this dress... its not right for the special day.
where it at some other event....BUT NOT JANUARY 20th.
Ummm this dress should NOT be worn at all on Jan 20th.
Michelle should not wear black that day. Stick with color. Not black. Plus its short. This would be another MAJOR diss if she wears this dress.
Wear the dress to a state dinner or some other event. But for all the balls and inaguration??? NO
