Who's behind this mystery frock? (Updated)

IMG_2288_2

Photo used with kind permission from Flickr photographer The Adventures of Arnie & Marjorie

A few of you have written in to inquire about this floral shirt dress worn by Mrs. O in August, on the day Joe Biden's Vice Presidential candidacy was announced. The cut of the dress feels vintage inspired, similar in style to the feminine day dresses of the 1940s. And in deep purple, moss green and blue gray, the printed fabric resembles irises painted in watercolor. For a closer look at the fabric, have a peek at these photos from the same day. Given the prominence of floral patterns for Spring '08, we didn't think it would be a tall order to track down the designer - but we've had absolutely no luck thus far. Now we want to open it up to the group. Help us solve it. Who's the designer behind this gorgeous floral frock?

UPDATE: A huge thanks to Jen for helping us solve this. As Jen writes, the dress does appear to be Moschino. A similar dress from the Spring '08 Moschino collection, seen here, is clearly in the same fabric.

Date: August 23, 2008

Venue: Campaign rally following announcement of Joe Biden's Vice Presidential candidacy, Springfield, IL

Hey girl! Just came upon both your fabulous blogs, and wanted to tell you how much I LOVE them! Needless to say, everyone in my family is a fervent Obama supporter. ^_^ We're originally from Sri Lanka, and we're trying to get Mr. and Mrs. O's message across around the world.

Anyway, I have a style-life blog, Udarata Kella (http://udaratakella.blogspot.com) and I posted a link to Mrs. O on it ... if you don't mind? :o)

The print, but not the shape, reminds me of something I saw at Kohl's in Vera Wang's department store line.

Not sure but it looks very Anthropologie to me. It's quite lovely regardless of who made it.

Dear Anusha, We're glad you like the site and thanks very much for the link. We can't wait to have a peek at your blog too.

Dear Emily and Always In Style, these are both great suggestions. I'm starting to wonder if it might be vintage?

I sent a query originally and I still don't think it's vintage, wondering if it may be Tracy Reese?

It's actually Moschino ... a co-worker of mine has the same dress!

Moschino! Is there a catalog link? Amazing if that's true, that dress just seems too well cut and the print is too subtle...

My bad! didn't see the link and I always confuse Moschino w/ the Target line, thanks for solving this I've been wondering about this dress since I saw it!

Glad to finally solve this one. Thanks Jen for the tip and Antigone's Room for the original inquiry.

This is one of Mrs. O's better choices. The colors are fresh and the pattern is pleasant. I like that she finally has a sleeve covering her arms. She has nice arms, but the sleeveless look is not very formal or professional looking and she turns up that way too often.

Does anyone know where one can get this dress? Or a reasonable knock-off/facsimile? I have become obsessed with it!
