Hello Hawaii

Image by Larry Downing / Reuters Pictures

... and several hours later the Os landed in Honolulu, transported from the winter wonderland of Washington, D.C. to the tropical climate of Hawaii. Accordingly, they also changed clothes, debuting resort wear as they exited the airplane.

Mrs. O wore an azure blue, empire waist dress with slight cap sleeves. The dress features subtle shirring detail through the waist and shoulders. A customary floral lei completed the look, serving as the perfect statement accessory.

Off They Go

The Os left for Hawaii today, where they'll spend the Christmas holiday and a 10 day vacation. Headed for Marine One, First Lady Mrs. O looked every bit the chic, jet set traveller she is, wearing a black wool Sonia Rykiel coat over a black top and leggings, tall black suede boots, leather gloves and sunglasses. Might those be the famed Robert Clergerie boots we've heard so much about?

Merry Christmas everyone!

High Five, Bo

First Lady Mrs. O paid a visit to the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. today, joined by Malia and Sasha Obama, and of course, Bo!

Per the Washington Post:

"First lady Michelle Obama, daughters Sasha and Malia and Bo -- that celebrity hound -- paid a Christmas season visit to young patients at Children's National Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon. Continuing a tradition begun by Bess Truman for spreading holiday cheer, the first lady greeted patients, thanked hospital staff for their work and read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' to about 50 children along with their parents and caregivers."

For his holiday appearance, Bo sported a red and white furry collar, adorned with jingle bells. Mrs. O added a bit of sparkle to her top, pairing a red v-neck with her diamond Garavelli brooch.

A White House Christmas

Hooray for the White House Flickr page, which has released new photos from various White House events held over the past month. Below we'll share our favorites, which include first looks at a few new Mrs. O frocks.

The president and first lady descend the grand staircase at the White House, to attend the "Christmas in Washington" event on December 13th.  For the occasion, Mrs. O chose a pleated jersey dress by Isabel Toledo ("very Marilyn Monroe" in the designer's words).

On December 4th, the president and first lady met Edith Childs of Greenwood, S.C.. Ms. Childs coined the phrase, "Fired Up! Read To Go!" which became the chant of the Obama campaign. Mrs. O wore a Michael Kors Gold Silk Lurex suit jacket and matching pencil skirt for the event. To note, we've seen the first lady wear the same ensemble in bold yellow and metallic red for prior events.

A Lovely Little Pin

Official White House Photo by Pete Souza

Our friends at W Magazine have shared a fabulous new detail. The pave diamond flower pin that the first lady wore for her interview with Oprah, and also in Oslo, Norway, is a custom piece by the Italian-based jewelry company Garavelli. The pin was purchased by the president as an anniversary gift for Mrs. O, secured from their favorite Chicago jeweler. Lovely!
