A Return to Vogue

Photos via Vogue.com

As had been speculated, Mrs. O is on the cover of Vogue for April 2013, out on newstands in less than two weeks. Per Robin Givhan of the Washington Post, "She’s wardrobed from her own closet in a Reed Krakoff sheath in cerulean blue with a flourish of purple at the neckline." Vogue reveals that Mrs. O paired the dress Kimberly McDonald geode-and-diamond drop earrings. In a new photo on the magazine's website, the First Lady can also be seen wearing a stunning Michael Kors sweater and ball skirt.

In the interview, the First Lady describes her relationship to fashion as follows:

“I always say that women should wear whatever makes them feel good about themselves. That’s what I always try to do. . . . I also believe that if you’re comfortable in your clothes it’s easy to connect with people and make them feel comfortable as well. In every interaction that I have with people, I always want to show them my most authentic self.”

As many will recall, the First Lady also appeared on the March 2009 cover of Vogue, seen here.

Fascinating to see the difference in her face between the two Vogue covers. Michelle has definitely had some 'work' done to her face since the last cover.

I enjoy reading the comments except for the last few on this page. Everyone is entitled to a comment about MrsO, but to be ridiculed is so sad. I think that the Vogue cover shoot is over photoshopped and MrsO tries too hard to look like a model instead of a first lady. Her hair, makeup and facial structure are photoshopped. A truly natural picture would have been beautiful. The world is becoming too superficial.

Here we go again, the usual suspects like Abigail and Thumper and Jes, do not like the Vogue cover. Oh well, I guess we should all go home now and crawl in a corner and reflect on why these mavens do not like the photos. Oh, and we can't forget the other dissatisfied posters who keep droning on about "photoshopping" and "not looking her natural self", or better yet get this..."she had some work done since the last Vogue cover". You know, I've finally come to the realization that I must take a page out of Michelle Obama's book on dealing with ignoramuses, haters and bigots. That is to ignore them, eventually they'll realize they are not getting the attention they so crave, or better yet, they'll trip up in their own ignorance and stupidity for all to see. For the past 4 years this First Lady and her husband have had to put up with a lot of crap emanating from the likes of the three mentioned above as well as the "photoshopped" crowd, yet they continue to come up smelling like roses while their critics show themselves for who they really are. So kudos to Michelle Obama, Mrs. First Lady for your smashing cover on Vogue. Most Americans support you, admire you, learn from you, copy you, and hold you in the greatest esteem. You are a "Phenomenal Woman", so who cares what a few critters have to say.

Thanks for the photo of Mrs. O and the book! We had no idea she can read! I am sure the children's book is a good starting point for her!

Jenna, if you are trying to be facetious, your comments have fallen flat. No one, I mean nobody has ever utterred the nonsense you are trying to project of Michelle Obama being a perfect person. No one is, so it's ludicrous for you to try to come here with your phony ridicule to try to counter the critique of those of us who forcefully respond to the utter stupidity of some of you who think for one minute that you can dictate to this woman when you yourselves do not accept that attitude when it's directed at you. So how is it possible for you to be so " thinned skinned" when the objections and commentaries are directed at you, yet you feel it's your "right" to chastise, ridicule, and put down this woman because she dares not to heed to your dictates. Where the heck do you get off! I'm sick and tired of you posters who think you can take gratuitous pot shots at the First Lady with impunity, then when your behaviour is called out, you respond with silly comments such as yours. This reminds of a saying I learned while growing up..."people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones". In other words, if you can't take it, then don't dish it out! I've always said and I'll repeat it again, for those of you who think it's "o.k." to use such derogatory terms to discribe this First Lady and what she chooses to wear on any given day would provide the rest of us a snapshot of your lifestyle and wardrobe so we can "assess" and "criticize" vigorously, then maybe you"ll begin to get an inclination of what it's like to be repeatedly and voraciously attacked for your own personal choices that shouldn't be anybody's business but your own. So yes, even though this blog is about commentary on the First Lady's style and fashion, you should be adult enough to understand once and for all that if you are in disagreement with her choices, keep it to yourself unless you bring some constructive viewpoint to the discussion. Otherwise, it's just childish and repetitive harping on a subject you have no knowledge of and on which you offer no enlightenment. Maybe you and some of your cohorts would take some time to reflect on these thoughts. Hope springs eternal. But knowing who many of us have been dealing with for the past 4 years, I doubt it!
